Newflouf is a very slippery-coated cat.

Newflouf tries to sit on me to sleep... and sliiiiiiiiiiiiides down the comforter to land in a flumph.

Newflouf tries to sit on the back of my chair, where the faux leather has all worn off and the underlayer is smooooooth, and sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiides down to flop against my back.

I had a trilly, chirping goofball with her heavier-than-it-looks hind end landing on my shoulder, paws daintily resting on the back of the chair to survey the hall, for a solid twenty minutes of now I can't move or I will disturb the behbeh.

I don't think I'm supposed to be totally d'aww over that, but I am. I so am.

      Husband brought home flu.

Husband did not bring home packages that got delivered next door.

I did not order this flu, goddammit.

@Auspice I cheat HARRRRRD on that sort of thing, and use embroidery floss a lot (usually split into two or three lengths, because apparently I want to go blind). Depending on the scale of what you want to do, that's one way to do it for under $$$, and without a mountain of stuff left over at the end.

@Auspice I may try one of the circle thingies; can let you know how it goes. (I love those kinds of things because they're ziploc bag in the purse size, usually, easy to haul around in the car/etc.) The scarves are always win, though. Also: warmmmmmmm, which is a huge plus this time of year.

I hate this one when it comes up, because there are too many possible options. 😐 It's harder when it's a mystery person vs. someone assigned, but if there's a group theme, that helps? If nothing else, there are actually-not-shitty crochet potholders/trivets/washcloths. Everybody can use those.

    • RE: Good TV

I was able to struggle through them up to last year, but I gave up this year.

It sounds like Legends of Tomorrow will be out of the big crossover loops for this year, though, so I'll stick with that. I love their complete ridiculousness. (Once you look at it as a sitcom, it improves considerably.)

    • Giving Thanks

Yeah, yeah, ZOMG US-centric, whatever -- nope, not the point. This is a spot for things we're grateful for, in the hobby and otherwise. (Timing is just a convenient excuse and inspiration.)

      Hobby stuff:

      • That after so long, this hobby still even exists, period. Much as we may grouse about dwindling crowds and so on, we're still here and there really are quite a few of us actively involved as players and creators. That's awesome.
      • More original games coming along each year.
      • A game I really love with amazingly creative people that aren't rushing along at breakneck speeds I could never dream of keeping up with.

      RL:

      • Still breathin'. (Suck it, doomsday prophecy!)
      • My two amazing and ridiculous cats, Tesla and Tama.
      • Hearing good news from various folks about things going well in their lives lately.
      • Getting to see one of my cousins later at dinner.
      • Progress on cleaning the house!

      ...add your favorites, have at.

...sadly, this would have been my guess, too. 😕

This kind of thing needs to NOT happen, and by gods I hope some of the LARP folks on the forum see this and realize it's something to take seriously.

Waking from a migraine-killing nap to an adorably ridiculous cat going all magnificent murderflouf on my hair.

She looked so completely baffled when I raised my head to look at her to figure out what in the hells she was doing.

And as much as sometimes there's a desire to explain that behavior away as just "socially awkward"...no.

Any time someone is putting hands on someone, there is no question.

Some of the things mentioned -- like 'maybe too lewd' humor (imporant note: with NO accompanying predatory behavior of any kind) -- are far more likely social awkwardness. There have been a few examples of such, and it is very hard for me to label this 'that person is absolutely a creeper'. A horrible creepy experience, absolutely. A predator? ...not by default.

    • RE: Why We Don't Make New Friends Anymore (Or Creepers Do Creepy Things)

@Sunny LARP had the oh-so-memorable 'I see you're playing a Toreador, I am a mage! I now have appearance 5 because of my magic, and you are now entranced with me and will do everything I say, because it's your clan weakness!'

      ...

That was the first LARP ever, in 1992, before Mage was ever even published.

I mean, people kink-twinking with Mage has gone on that goddamned long, before Mage actually even existed. 😐

    • RE: Why We Don't Make New Friends Anymore (Or Creepers Do Creepy Things)

I have run into my fair share of creepers in the hobby -- in person and strictly online -- but they are far from the worst.

I've had assholes at the faire just walk right up and grab my chest while they're meandering by, some with sleazy winks or nasty comments before walking off. Rude cleavage comments have been the norm since junior high, so I'm slightly more immune these days. (Being fat these days also helps avoid them.)

My "favorite", though, was a guy I ran into at cons a lot in the 90s. He'd just walk right up to me and say, "I paint fat women naked, I would love to paint you!" and then leer. I wasn't skinny then, but dammit, I was far from fat. To this day I consider him the pinnacle of 'HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ALL THE NOPE FOREVER!'

He wasn't the worst, but damn if he wasn't memorable.

ETA: Creepy painter guy started this when I was 17. I mean. Jesus christ.
