    • RE: Christmas...

First thing that bubbled up was my mother getting the boxed FGU Aftermath! game for me. I wanted that game so badly and was that ever a world of disappointment. I joke the game should be called After! Math! because of the complexity making the game a complete bore and drag to play.

She also got a Macross VT-01 Ostrich fighter when I was 13 that I resold awhile back for $1500 when I needed a car quickly. She was happy a toy she got me for Christmas bailed me out of a sticky financial moment.

@surreality I'm glad to say that since getting back into the miniatures painting it's been a great anxiety killer. I'll never be a professional by any stretch but just sitting with the quiet, my thoughts, and a paint brush has been a good valve for my sanity. Was a time I'd mu* and paint but when I started realizing how much painting I was getting done between responses I had to take a look at where I was playing kind of.

    • RE: How do you make money?

      Hmmm...
14 years old worked for a car tint manufacturer illegally over the summer to pay for my first 'real' full stack bass amp with two 15" speakers. Yeah it was all low end but cool to have a stack.
15 years old mowing lawns on the weekend to buy more band stuff and roleplaying game books.
16 years old I worked about a month at McDonald's a figured out I didn't have the personality for fast food.
17-21 was the age of advancement at the Target boutique. Went from pushing carts all day on the parking lot, promotion to hardlines, promotion to level II electronics. Figured out I was not going to be promoted anymore and had a temper tantrum over a day off they refused to give me to go see Youth Brigade's reunion tour and quit in a huff.
21-Six months at the dock for Sears unloading freight.
21-26 Offered a job to be a baker making more money. Made donuts for a grocery store, then cut deli meat, then worked produce as it was a small raise with each job change. Went to college during this time as well.
Footnote- Played in the worst punk band in Texas and also the worst country western band in Texas but technically we got paid occasionally and I used that money to buy miniatures for wargaming and whatnot.
26- Applied for the phone company and have worn more hats than I can remember these days. I will say that it's unfortunate that I'm skilled in technology that is disappearing slowly but surely.

Wow, that's a boring assed resume.

    • RE: Full spoilers: Iron Fist

Spent a lot of time wondering when Danny was going to get some Iron Fist Viagra. So much ham fisted writing to remove his super power from the conflicts that I was rolling my eyes by the end. I'm guessing someone thought that Luke Cage wading through mobs of goons without much pressure wouldn't be repeated, maybe? Despite the fact that Luke Cage is virtually invulnerable I found the fights tense and rewarding whereas Iron Fist just left me wondering if Danny was sneaking out to eat donkey meat every time he was supposed to be training. I think it's more the fight choreography than Finn Jones' acting ability making the fights look just weak overall. It wasn't tense so much as making Iron Fist appear incompetent to me.
It was also telling that the big climatic battle had the hero running from the villain. I was sorely reminded of Corey Haim running away from Christopher Collet in Prayer of the Rollerboys and that is not a good thing because you really don't want me mentally comparing your hero to a Corey Haim z-grade action film.
Was it a waste of my time? Absolutely not but it was probably the weakest outing so far. Tom Pelphrey as Ward was probably my favorite character as he seemed to be the one that had believable growth throughout the series. I'm hoping they firm up Iron Fist for the Defenders but I'm just trying right now to imagine Danny and Luke hanging out as Heroes for Hire and it's not quite gelling in my head at all.

    • RE: The Crafting Thread

My painting has been off the rails for so long. I organized my projects finally set them up to seal and get ready for using them on the tabletop. This is a backlog of painting for about 18 months. My painting really got rusty and in my last move I lost all my paints except the Vallejo suitcase and just... It's nice to have some stuff finished and I can get moving onwards with those Mantic minis for Dragon Rampant.

It's kind of freeing to get all this stuff off the table so that the projects look a bit less overwhelming. Hopefully get back into the habit with the brush and paint and get more progress soon.
