@Ganymede Well, yeah but his tongue got cut out. Hence why he will never speak a word, right?
Only reason I can come up with for him not explaining his actions.
Hmmm, it's my make nonsense interpretations up about Shakespeare day today.

@Auspice Ugh, there's so many tricks and optimization in Talisman. Stuff I picked up from other players and being on the receiving end as I didn't figure it out on my own. I like the game but I also find that I don't really mourn my copy that was loaned out and never returned. Fair trade I guess as I borrowed DungeonQuest and have played that game a lot more.
I will confess I had one of my favorite game moments with Small World, gypsies, my refusal to put them into decline, and treating it as a war game with another player. We had fun, lost, wrecked each other but did not wreck the other player's fun. Good times.
@Autumn My goodness, you should have at least tagged that with spoilers! Thanks for ruining it for me.
I don't know shouldn't everyone know the end of most of Shakespeare's plays?
Puck holds up the severed head of Yorick and Othello screams out, "All hail the king of England, Julius Casar!"
It's Shakespeare, everyone dies by the end.
@Auspice Geezis, Talisman can be bad for that reason. The experienced players can easily make it 2 hours (3-4 with expasions!) of complete misery for a newcomer. The game endorses being cut throat but I've been in games where people that know the tricks and whatnot seem to take almost sadistic pleasure on getting one over on someone.
Going back to the SPI/Avalon Hill games, I will totally reset counters back if someone makes a horrible move, realizes it after my turn demonstrates it or didn't know such and such would be an outcome because they're new to the rules. The games take forever, the learning curve can be harsh when getting this zone of control thing down, so why make the game a misery because they're learning? And it leads to exactly that. You refused to play it again forever and they lost a player.
@Arkandel Yeah, this was the reason people went to Battle Beyond the Stars and totally failed to notice that John Boy Walton and Mark Hamill were not the same while George Peppard and Harrison Ford are not different either. Wait, I just noticed there were no lightsabers in this movie!
To the present day which is how Asylum Films continues to exist. Go see the Da Vinci Treasure or Sunday School Musical! Paranormal Entity?
For the record, I really love Battle Beyond the Stars in that nostalgic sort of way but even as a kid I remember certain members of the audience coming out being confused.
Only one? I have ones that would be my favorites IF I could find more people willing to slog through the older games. I love Swords and Sorcery by SPI designed by Greg Costikyan.
The seven player Dark Lord scenario is the bomb but I've actually played that one with seven players once. The scenario I've played the most is the three player send up of the Russian Civil War with the Orcish Revolutionary Coalition (the O.R.C.) and the Revolutionary Provisional Government of the Orcs (RPGO) fighting the established Orish Monarch over New Orc City. A favorite puns and all but I don't get to play it ENOUGH to qualify as my absolute favorite.
Probably of larger games that I get to play regularly it would be Shadows Over Camelot excepting the game is a bit formulaic after awhile. Ticket to Ride for 'true' family night when my brother and sister visit because it's quick, holds attention, and has a lot more strategy than might initially appear at first glance.
@Thenomain The same thing happens EVERY time. We get together, we slog through remembering the rules. Things finally heat up and the game starts getting interesting and someone has to leave and does the 'take over my forces' thing and it falls apart. This game is the ultimate tease that NEVER leads to a satisfying board game orgasm.
Then it's forever before we play again, just long enough to forget the rules and have to do the entire process all over again.
There's VASSAL for most of the games. I tried it out ages ago but it was still in its infancy and opponents were hard to come by. I suppose I could try to get into the community but it kind of goes back to Auspice's comparison to a festering etc.
@Auspice Completely, I feel kind of robbed that when I had the time the people that knew how to play and had the time were too good to teach or even be an opponent. I'll admit I really prefer playing the miniatures game Dragon Rampant these days as it only takes about two hours and is more focused on fun and gaming than pretending you're some grand tactician.
I guess I'm not much better than the grognards though. I'll teach or play with anyone but if they're abrasive, misogynist, or a Nazi fetishist living out the dream through moving cardboard counters I'm not going to do a repeat game as I'm just not so generous with my time that I'm going to spend 4-6 hours with someone like that regardless of the gaming community. But I would never turn my nose up at someone just because of their age or gender.
I know I'm kind of begging it with the 'him' thing as if a female would have never even considered playing one of the old Avalon Hill wargames and maybe lacks the basic brain power?
As a kid I found the people playing the games to be a bit biased in that only adult men with an encyclopedic knowledge of the historical period were fit to play these mighty games. Which is partially why the hex n' counter hobby is so stagnant. The 'grognards' seemed pretty content to alienate everyone and treat them as if they lacked basic brain power to play their games.
I think some of these players with that mindset likely haunt the BGG forums and are probably still as vocal as they were then. I'm bitter towards them because they were such arrogant creeps towards me when I was younger and interested in these games. I occasionally get someone to sit down with me to play these dusty games I'm picking up on Ebay but overall I think they really damaged the potential player pool with their arrogance decades ago so there was never any new blood.
Sorry, personal rant over.
I can't put all the mitigating factors onto Spider that caused me to just throw my arms up and walk away. It was very much a time invested with diminishing returns with just too much hoop jumping for a roleplaying session. I'd already thrown in the towel and only afterwards did it become clear why I was getting those diminishing returns. It was enough clarity to just decide to never reinvest that time again. I unplugged and got over my social anxiety enough to connect up with local gamers to do tabletop games again so I guess that's a constructive thing. I still stay plugged into the MU* community enough in case that one game comes along that will get me over that bad taste enough to reinvest.
My painting has been off the rails for so long. I organized my projects finally set them up to seal and get ready for using them on the tabletop. This is a backlog of painting for about 18 months. My painting really got rusty and in my last move I lost all my paints except the Vallejo suitcase and just... It's nice to have some stuff finished and I can get moving onwards with those Mantic minis for Dragon Rampant.
It's kind of freeing to get all this stuff off the table so that the projects look a bit less overwhelming. Hopefully get back into the habit with the brush and paint and get more progress soon.
Spent a lot of time wondering when Danny was going to get some Iron Fist Viagra. So much ham fisted writing to remove his super power from the conflicts that I was rolling my eyes by the end. I'm guessing someone thought that Luke Cage wading through mobs of goons without much pressure wouldn't be repeated, maybe? Despite the fact that Luke Cage is virtually invulnerable I found the fights tense and rewarding whereas Iron Fist just left me wondering if Danny was sneaking out to eat donkey meat every time he was supposed to be training. I think it's more the fight choreography than Finn Jones' acting ability making the fights look just weak overall. It wasn't tense so much as making Iron Fist appear incompetent to me.
It was also telling that the big climatic battle had the hero running from the villain. I was sorely reminded of Corey Haim running away from Christopher Collet in Prayer of the Rollerboys and that is not a good thing because you really don't want me mentally comparing your hero to a Corey Haim z-grade action film.
Was it a waste of my time? Absolutely not but it was probably the weakest outing so far. Tom Pelphrey as Ward was probably my favorite character as he seemed to be the one that had believable growth throughout the series. I'm hoping they firm up Iron Fist for the Defenders but I'm just trying right now to imagine Danny and Luke hanging out as Heroes for Hire and it's not quite gelling in my head at all.
@WTFE I appreciate the detailed breakdown as it gives me a lot to think about regarding what to ask my new doctor in regards to both weight management and headaches. Don't worry I'm not going to run out and potentially dive in head first cause everyone's chemical make up is different. It just gives me a lot to note down to talk to my doc about and a new avenue of approach. Can't thank you enough.
Hmmm...
14 years old worked for a car tint manufacturer illegally over the summer to pay for my first 'real' full stack bass amp with two 15" speakers. Yeah it was all low end but cool to have a stack.
15 years old mowing lawns on the weekend to buy more band stuff and roleplaying game books.
16 years old I worked about a month at McDonald's a figured out I didn't have the personality for fast food.
17-21 was the age of advancement at the Target boutique. Went from pushing carts all day on the parking lot, promotion to hardlines, promotion to level II electronics. Figured out I was not going to be promoted anymore and had a temper tantrum over a day off they refused to give me to go see Youth Brigade's reunion tour and quit in a huff.
21-Six months at the dock for Sears unloading freight.
21-26 Offered a job to be a baker making more money. Made donuts for a grocery store, then cut deli meat, then worked produce as it was a small raise with each job change. Went to college during this time as well.
Footnote- Played in the worst punk band in Texas and also the worst country western band in Texas but technically we got paid occasionally and I used that money to buy miniatures for wargaming and whatnot.
26- Applied for the phone company and have worn more hats than I can remember these days. I will say that it's unfortunate that I'm skilled in technology that is disappearing slowly but surely.
Wow, that's a boring assed resume.
@WTFE Tell me more of this diet or a possible link? I'm open to trying a life changer and I need to for a million reasons beyond headache relief. I did my meticulous insane diet and lost around 35 pounds for a good 18 months and it crept back on as the diet was not really about eating different and healthier so much as tightly reigned portion control. It worked, but when my discipline finally cracked it all went to shit.
@WTFE Yeah, no definable triggers for mine. Medication for them made me feel worse. Most of them made gave me medicine head which incapacitated me in a bad way. I usually count on 2-3 migraines annually that are so bad that I vomit and then feel better a couple hours after that. Rest of the time I describe them as really shitty headaches that can be pushed into the background with copious use of painkillers. There's a story about how my migraines are caused by evil spirits but it's not true, really long, and goes nowhere.
@Thenomain Yeah, on the face that this is how it is with everyone on board. Trust issues, I always remember the quick thrusting back stab over the months of carefree gaming I've had with numerous players and staff. I admit, I'd give it the benefit of the doubt and try a villain in such an environment. But I jam Johnny Thunders- Born to Lose so a villain in defeat is my jam.
