@skew and I are now combining our cafe ideas like VOLTRON
I'm the heart, right? Art is the heart?
The new, tentative plan, will be my character (Green) renting half of @Roz 's shop. It'll be made into an art co-op, where local artists (and the like) basically rent some small space to sell their work. So, come for coffee, go shop. Leave all your money in Grand Lake.
Concept still in development, but we'll get it worked out! And, yes, anyone who wants to be an artist can find an anchor here

@everyone else... I'm fixing to play a cafe/community art store owner. Be more than happy for any connections people want. See you all on Wednesday!
I had thoughts of playing an artist!
It looks like artist is a popular concept!
I'm still tweaking a bit, but I've settled on an art therapy college drop out. Some of the magic seems like it could facilitate some really fucking cool RP if I can get it playing out as I want it to. He probably won't end up as the traditional artsy type, though, so hopefully it doesn't step on anyone else's concept.
I just gotta find a PB at this point, which I'm learning I'm terrible at, so if anyone is interested in talking concept shop/cooking up some connections lemme know!

@Sab @saturna I do want to point out that art communities are popular in this part of the world. As the site points out, millions roll through this town come very summer, and they all want some souvenir from a local artist. The craving for high-quality mountain chintz is insatiable.
So, if anyone wants to keep things "realistic", just make sure your art could be sold in some way and I think it'll be a great concept!

I've been wanting to play a char that owns a scrap yard for a while. This seems like the place to do it.
Late 20s/Early 30-something who left for college, then came back to help the parents out in their scrap yard. Family was big into spiritualism, questionable natural healing methods, etc. Of course, she never believed that all until, you know, now.
Hit me up if you want a connection?

I am considering a town sheriff concept. Not sure why I gravitate towered those concepts but should be useful to have some local patrol about.

Oooh, a character to make the concept I'm thinking of nervous.
I'm thinking of making a reformed (more by circumstance than inclination) petty con artist and fraudster who has been pulled to the town by those dreams and sees it as a chance to try to start over and walk the straight and narrow, because his niche of the criminal underworld is rapidly disappearing to technical security improvements and Russian mobsters who don't like freelancers.

I'm always interested in connections with you.

Alright, brainstorming a bit - how's this for a concept. Dance instructor. Almost every small town has at least one dance school catering (mostly) to kids. I live in the middle of nowhere in a poor area and they have a bunch of them; so it seems plausible. (Though, in all fairness, new ones spring up and go out of business every so often, but the old ones seem fairly stable.)
I don't mind if the character is a local or not (though given the theme, either could work) - but probably, at least, someone who left town to go to school, if not from somewhere else entirely, had dreams of the place ala theme, and moved and has tried to start up a dance studio. Usually I play logical, very detached characters; might be nice to play perhaps someone more in touch with themselves, more emotional. Perhaps vaguely spiritual but not religious, in the fashionable trend these days. With a number of people making artists, coffee shop owners, and so on, I think it would fit in well without being overdone.
I noticed on the wiki that some (but not all) of the schools of magic had recommendations about which professions would suit them best. Any thoughts on this one? Looking at the wiki, seems like a few of them might fit, depending.

I'm in, I think. Someone CHIPPER.

Will there be any magical schools that derive from the Middle East?
(Yeah, that's me plugging for a Semitic school of magic...)

I'll believe it when I see it, bebe.
-
@cupcake The magic schools are listed here. In Alpha, we had a magical order from India (as well as China, Central America, Roman Empire, Wales, Central Europe, Scandonavia, Egypt, and Japan) , and there is a presumption that there were more scattered various places around the world.
There will be room to play with (and make up) the various historical forms of magic as we build metaplot and PRPs. Our hope is that you can find a way to make whatever you're interested in fit within the framework we've built.

@Tez and I are so far thinking of hashing out a ranch nearby. Basically Harvest Moon, but in this game. We're both gonna be city slickers out of our element, tho, and we may or may not have room for farmhands depending on who wants to and if the people who have been offered already want to.

I like it here.

@meg Thats an amazing idea. I'm amazed I've never seen anyone do that before on a mu*. Very creative.
-
@three-eyed-crow You're used to my grouchy character. Prepared to be amazed.
or annoyed.

I'm definitely going to be giving this a try. If anyone wants to be magic buddies, hit me up. I'll be playing the owner/artisan of a touristy botanicals and beauty shop inherited from her mother.
I'll be there.
I'm just so tired all the time.

@thesuntsar I for one am excited.
