Where to play?

And I'm not saying that to be mean to you Carex. I looked at the game and didn't really feel compelled to make a PC there (not anyone's fault or that it's a bad game or anything like that, I just didn't feel inspired). I have in the past forced myself to make a PC somewhere to play with friends, but I have rarely found that to work out long term because I drift (and then annoy my friends). I think it's good to listen to your gut when it comes to whether you want to invest time in a place. You can always come back in a few months and see if you're more inspired. I just think entering a game with a chip on your shoulder or starting off annoyed just doesn't usually work well, even if you're a super nice person playing on a game with good folks.

I'm also in the boat where Grey Harbor just wasn't my 'thing'. Which is a shame since I think the people working on it are doing a great job!
But I will say that Stargate is still on our planned timeline and will be open sooner than later. We've been on target. So that will soon be an option for people as well.

@bear_necessities
Yeah, and I really wanted it to be. It seemed like a nice theme that could have really gone somewhere. -
@faraday said in Where to play?:
Even if you ignore the fact that "automotive" includes motorcycles by definition
No, it doesn't. You go to entirely different schools with different certifications and use entirely different parts. There are even different laws regarding cars and bikes.
Saying you have too many car shops so you can't open a bike shop is like saying you have too many plastic surgeons so no one can open a dentist office.
It's just dumb.

@Carex Obviously there are specialties within the field, but you can't escape the basic dictionary definition. But even that is beside the point. Their policy clearly states that no new automotive or mechanics businesses are allowed (but you can be a mechanic working for an existing shop). It doesn't matter whether I want to open a motorcycle repair shop or a lawnmower repair shop. It's restricted.
You're obviously free to think the restriction is unnecessarily tight, but it is nevertheless clearly stated in their policies IMHO. I see nothing wrong with the way they handled it.

"No automotive/mechanics wanted? Oh, I know, I'll make a guy that runs a MOTORCYCLE shop!"
Is effectively equivalent to "No cops/law enforcement wanted? Okay, I'll make an FBI agent!"

That's not dumb. Splitting a hair instead of just saying "oh ok, wasn't sure if this was included in the restricted concept umbrella. I'll work for someone else" is dumb.
It's really dumb.

...
Come on.
-
So uh.
Are there other places to play or not? -
@Rucket I think it depends on what you want to play?

The thread title is literally "Where to play?" and so far it's been nothing but posts about Grey Harbor. Presumably there are other places people would like to post about in here, but I could be wrong.

What suggestions do you have?
-
I got nothing personally but there are a few sites on the ads thread. HorrorMu, Arx, Shadowrun Denver, a couple WoD places, etc. I suppose if you're desperate you might find something on MUDConnector, if you don't mind the fact that tons of the sites listed there have been closed for a decade and most of the rest don't even have a website. (I'm picky in my old age.)

Yeah, aside from what Faraday said, I can only think of one other game: that Empire hero game. We seem to be in a dry spot but I've heard of some good games in the works so hopefully that will change soon.
