Franken and Takei just about did it for me. If it's ever revealed that Tom Hanks groped someone's ass, I'm out.

RE: Code systems that make it easier to get on with the business of roleplaying
RfK's off-camera social actions system which included rumours, territory stats and +downtime units. It allowed socially statted characters to build influence and manipulate events within and outside of their territory, and to whittle away or buttress support for foes, allies, and themselves. It was the first time on a game that I felt my social character could go toe to toe with combat monsters (in a non-combat situation) and come out ahead.

RE: Help A Kitty :(
Sent a little extra because vet visits can run over total pretty easily. I hope she feels better soon!

@Cobaltasaurus That's a relief! I'm glad she's on the path to recovery. Good girl, Oya.

RE: Forgiveness in Mushing
It isn’t that I don’t forgive. I just don’t forget, and if I see the behaviour that made me red flag them in the first place continue then you can bet I’ll avoid the hell out of them. I can politely interact with people who’ve pissed me off. But if they keep on? I’m sure as hell not going to indulge or enable them, even through something as simple as proximity.
And what does it matter if I hang onto that? They didn’t care enough about what I thought before to behave like an adult, they’re not going to care now that I think they’re dumb or an asshole or callous or selfish or whatever. It hurts no one if I roll my eyes at their shenanigans and carry on with my life believing they’re not worth my time.

RE: The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves)
@Ifrit Yep. Miss one round of repetition and it's gone, it doesn't matter how long I've been doing it.

RE: Spirit Lake - Discussion
They announced when they would be open. It's not on them that you didn't trust that they would be open then. They said they would. They did. This is pedantry.

RE: Horror MUX - Discussion
Dear god I would play the hell out of that setting if I could. I'd play the hell out of that MUSH. What a great concept for stories.

RE: Visit Fallcoast, sponsored by the Fallcoast Chamber of Commerce
You're wrong. I was in the conference call, on my phone in voice chat with the other staff and Shav when she made the decision to shut the game down. People were willing to take over the game. Shav knew this. She chose to shut it down anyway because she did not want others to take over her baby, as was her right.
You're also letting your hate-on for a game you played very briefly to blind you to the fact that there are aspects of RfK that, if adjusted and supported by the right code, would make an incredible single sphere vampire game. People are not saying remake RfK and run it the way Shav did. They are saying "take these elements and incorporate them into other games".

RE: Responsible RP Resolutions
@AeriaNyx Ah, yes. Imposter Syndrome. I am sometimes amazed when I get feedback on my reputation in the community. It's positive enough that sometimes I have to do a doubletake and remind myself that, yes, that is me too. Not just the spiky bundle of neurosis.
I don't find that reminding myself works very well. The thoughts can be so pervasive and the negative pattern recognition habit so deeply entrenched. And... well, I am very aware of my own faults. It becomes a spiral of "you're overthinking again BECAUSE YOU'RE TERRIBLE" that I fall into being a jittery hyper-focused mess.
Trying to break that focus with a diversion does help sometimes. Especially if it's something constructive, productive and fun. The problems come when I cannot come up with something which fits that bill.
But I keep tryin'.

RE: Cultural differences between MUDs and MUSHes
There is something in emergency medicine known as The Golden Hour and the clock starts ticking from the moment a serious injury is received or a medical emergency begins (heart attacks, strokes, etc.). It's used by EMS to gauge a person's prospects during assessment as well as how efficient EMS (fire, medical, etc.) are in responding.
It's also how many fire departments have justified larger budgets and more stations than ambulance departments but I won't get into that here.
There is some basis in reality here.
It sounds unfun to me but it isn't inaccurate by RL standards.

RE: Mutant Genesis (X-Men)
I sort of want to check the game out, I've had a hankering to play a mutant lately. But, while I understand the first come first serve mentality in superhero games, allowing pitches and claims to be made before the game even opened is sort of a turn off. First come first serve makes for a level playing field; allowing pre-open pitches and accepting them (up to and including having a very large "taken" or reserved list) before opening feels less so. That's probably unfair of me since I don't like or want to play a FC but... it nags at me. I may still have a look.

RE: Interest Check: Single Sphere VtR Game
I'm not sure it's possible to keep a thread on topic around here, no worries.
We are going full 2e! So far as I know. 1e tastes like burning.
Post-Praxis ruining event, the Nosferatu will have fared best thanks to the Catacombs! There will also be racial tensions, or will have been pre-event, due to heavy Carthian involvement with Northern African immigrants and encouraging of the various student, immigrant and wage slave protests of recent years in Paris.
It's not all peace, love and smooches in the City of Light, it's been a simmering hotbed of tension for awhile now and we'd like to capture that (or, we are capturing that in the news files we've written so far) since we're both news/history junkies.

RE: Mutant Genesis (X-Men)
@ixokai I agree, it is a very fine line and I'm not sure I can explain it beyond saying that it feels like there is a difference (to me).
My knee-jerk feelings:
Open game + bring on the pitches = level playing field.
Game not open + not accepting reservations = level playing field.
Game not open + accepting reservations = not a level playing field.Overall it is not a very important distinction because again, I don't play FCs. I could have PMed the staff here and put in a reservation if I were an FC player, so those who did have no more of an advantage than I did. But. But. There is something about it that niggles at me and gives me an uneasy feeling. It's an approach that doesn't sit easy with me.

RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
I've struggled with a lot of the code too, especially since a lot is still in flux and they are still working on many of the help files. I spent a lot of time whining at @Apos, in fact, about how I was too old and had spent too long on MUSHes and MUXes to easily shift to learning a new way of doing everything. I feel a lot more comfortable after several weeks of just throwing myself at it all though. I figure out one system at a time and that's made it feel a lot more manageable. I'm also trying to hold regular OOC sessions where I do walk-throughs for things like the +support, +investigate and +task systems, which has also helped me get a better handle on all of it.
If you're looking for RP, I'm available there as Dawn and happy to help get you hooked into some things. Also happy to do impromtu learnin' sessions to help get some of the system use things down, if you'd like.

RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
I'll probably be pilloried for this and, in full disclosure, before this game I did not think I could live without +meetme. However...
This game has so many neat little lore hints and clues in every single one of its many grid rooms, both public and private, that if there were a +meetme, I'd never have seen any of them. On every game with +meetme that I've played on, no one uses the grid. They teleport out, they RP, they home again. If there are temprooms, they rarely if ever use the grid at all, except in private room RP.
Without +meetme or temp rooms, I've come to actually feel the place as an actual world. I've also compiled a hefty list of clues for the upcoming beta and start of GMing, for the metaplot.
