I've been browsing through M20 and holy bologna, I like it. It is so much cleaner and more accessible than Revised so far, which I always felt like set such a high bar for newcomers like me-- the assumption on the writer's part always seemed to be that you'd "grown up" with the game line and it took a lot of pretty abstract concepts for granted, but M20 goes over the basics in really clear language and I'm actually picking up on things that frustrated or confused me for a long time.

Maybe I'm letting my giddiness for the setting carry me away and these are only the foolish gun-jumping dreams of a nerd baby, but...do we have to wait for the conversion guide for Shadow War????

My only real peeve with the book is that the merits & flaws section is incredibly light and includes a line about how it will be filled out in the M20 Book of Secrets.

All right. We're gonna do this the scanner way. I'm gonna suck your brain dry! Everything you are is gonna become me.

Less conversion guide, more GMC rules, @Wizz. 🙂

@tragedyjones Yeah, I got mine too a couple of weeks ago. The colors look fantastic, too.

I haven't been able to keep up with the 2.0 stuff. Can someone quickly answer if there is a 'core' system book like 'World of Darkness' that is simply the core system rules and such?

Previously released as the God-Machine Chronicles book. It's being reskinned as WOD 2.0.

@Rook - Not yet. There will be a 2.0 core book. However all of the gameline cores have enough rules to play as is.

You can also get the free GMC Rules Update, which is an extension to nWoD's core rules.

While the first part of that is true (GMC rules update is free), calling it an extension is kind of a misnomer. Sweeping changes to several major systems make GMC even more different from nwod as Revised was from 2nd Edition in owod.

Cue all the whiners who bitch about people having tattoos signifying their supernatural allegiances, despite every wod book since the dawn of time saying characters do so, depicting characters doing so, etc.

It's one of my favorite tropes. I think Vampire and Demon are the only ones that outright don't.

Curse: Hurt People Hurt People. Despite their outward appearance and instance otherwise, Ogres do feel pain just like anyone else, and so, when someone else can prove to an Ogre, or those around the Ogre, that something is causing him real pain, it’s a Clarity breaking point. This Clarity break only happens once per any specific source for the pain. So, after some heavy conversation and a lot of beers, an ex boyfriend tells an Ogre that his real problem is that he never forgive his parents for dying, and it’s a Clarity break. Bringing up those dead parents again won’t do it. However, pointing out that he’s broken his fist in a fight about the honor of his dead mother, that’s a new break.

                                    Yeah. No.

That's just begging for everyone playing Changeling: The Trauma Victim to drive every Ogre around them into a dark spiral.

Racism isn't Tinkerbell. It doesn't need you to believe in it for it to exist.

I thought that was the point of it, actually. I can see how being around the abused only feeds into the cycle of abuse further, or causes the victims to lose a sense of how the world is supposed to work.

Maybe. But to the levels that it's usually taken on MU's? The poor orphaned battered sex slave that was kidnapped by the fae and then came out to find that all the things she loved and held on to are gone and everyone hates her and she lives on the streets, etc, etc, etc. There could be a new sob story every ten minutes, and there are tons of people around that love to talk about how they've got it worse than everyone else.

That would make ogres impossible to play, in an online environment. TT, sure, you're around a limited group that isn't bellyaching all the time, but on a MU?

I had a character who had the Virtual Adepts symbol tattooed across her back. It wasn't a great idea, but it was fun.

I thought it was pretty straightforward: Bullies beget bullies.

I'm actually starting to feel disillusioned by these Seemings. They don't seem well-nuanced, and I kind of wish they'd go back to stereotypes as a foundation and allow people to build from there. Fortunately they're optional (note: if they're not, that sucks), because I can't think of an existing character concept in my head that would fit any to date.

The player of an Ogre would have to choose their friends carefully or spend more time alone. This is a tangible flaw, and anyone deliberately trying to pick on this flaw may be spending an unusual amount of time on the floor looking for their teeth.
