@bleys5 The place we go in Florida every year, their hotel restaurant has added poutine to their permanent menu. (Almost nothing stays on that thing, it changes almost completely from year to year otherwise.)

Every year, we order room service precisely once, for that, because that is sweatpants on the couch food, not 'do we even have clothes nice enough to eat in this restaurant omg how the fuck did this place ever get listed on the timeshare program at all' restaurant dining.

They have seafood variations, too. Kinda amazing.

(Srsly, people... if you happen to be anywhere near Cape Coral, FL? Go to the Westin and order the damn poutine from either of their restaurants. It will cost you but you will be epic food coma happy; they'll customize it with more or less anything you want from their menu on it, from bourbon-braised brisket to grouper.)

Through the year, the fix is sated by a small cup of brown gravy at the diner when something includes fries. Everybody looked at us funny for that at first, until we explained: "Do you ever put gravy on mashed or baked potatoes?" "Well, yeah, of cour--oh, hey, yeah!"

We have converted many a soul away from ketchup this way.

      Oh fucking well.

There is a hotel restaurant here in MI that I discovered has poutine as a 'secret' appetizer you can order. It will never be found on the menu, but you can ask for it. SO FUCKING GOOD. A bit pricey but goddamn is it worth it.

Chicken fried steak with sausage gravy. When I feel my own personal scales of justice have slipped, that's what it takes to balance me back out.

A breaded, deep fried steak that somebody beat into submission with a hammer. Then drowned in gravy. Proper.

Someone insisted I go to Lulu's Bakery while I was in San Antonio earlier this month to have the chicken fried steak.

Ohhhhhh dear god. I have never, ever... ever had a chicken fried steak that good. And it wasn't even that expensive. We're talking a diner cheaper than Denny's. It almost made suffering my parents for a couple of days worth it.

+1 to @mietze for the Pho

              Me too.

Hell, Imma gonna get some in an hour. Pho gives me a feeling inside that's so close to post-coitus, it will always, always be comfort food.

So simple. So good. And I can load it with chili oil to burn out the hate from my body. Make me sweat.

Don't judge me if I enjoy my 45 minute pho-king sessions.

@ganymede No judgment. Just save me a seat and we can sit in silence, enjoying our pho-ital bliss.

@auspice If its any comfort, there's only ONE place within easy driving distance here that even serves pho... so I can't get the level of amazing that I'm used to. v_v

If you drink enough of it - it seems like it could be. Mhmm red wine and dark chocolate

I have never made one of Van’s recipes I didn’t love and she has even helped me fine tune some of mine in the IP. Her beef pho recipe is to die for. You can shortcut some of the cooking time but it’s worth doing it exactly as written. She has a great chicken one too. This is formulated for the instant pot, but you can just do whatever method you like for stock prep.

I don't really have a single solitary comfort food, but if I had to pick just one thing...

                                      Blueberry Muffins.

                                      or maybe

                                      Blueberry Pancakes.

Especially when they are /fresh/ fresh.
