Bwahahaha. I picked up Colossus and chatted with @Cupcake about relationship-fu without knowing it was her at all.
I really wish I had more time to play the big Russian.
You should find the time! (Not that I've had terribly much free time of late, but I hope to again soon!)
-
@seraphim73 You were a very fun and polite person in your time with us, Seraphim. Do heed Auspice's advice and find some time if you can! @Cupcake You were also very nice, and I am sorry if my answer sounded dismissive back then. Our players are generally very nice! Wish I could have helped more with your situation, but if you ever feel like trying again, we have more people around the time you play now, and some of them are scene runners that would love company.
You were both very nice! Hope to see you around!
-
@enoch Had fun in my couple of scenes, still plan to play some more. Just looking for some hooks into the actual RP... and I need actual time to play in order to get those hooks.
-
@seraphim73 We will run some scenes for the late night people from now on. When you have time, drop by!

You could have helped by listening and investigating the concern, maybe spoken to folks or addressed the game about concern that things were getting cliquish. I don't say this to be snarky or cruel, because I do genuinely want you to succeed. But I really feel strongly that when confronted with such concerns, you should invest some time in determining their validity instead of just arbitrarily calling everyone "very nice". The OOC room in particular was distinctly uncomfortable, I felt the whole time like I was talking to a wall, combined with the anxiety of worrying that maybe I was being too much of an attention whore.
@Seraphim73 that was you?! THAT IS SO WIERD.

Yuuuuuuup.
And yes, very odd. Such a freakin' small world.

@cupcake This mirrors my experience there too. Staff might be nice enough, but as they said in their own ads, these were basically OLTTs that went to full-open, and it shows. Staff clearly had their favourites, and most others tended to be treated as walking, talking NPCs so they could show off how awesome they were. There was very little effort given to impartiality or fair staffing, just a "this is our game and if you don't like it, bye".
Admittedly, that last is every game; no one has a /right/ to play anywhere. But most players expect to be on a level playing field, and if not, well, vote with your feet. Which several people have done.

Once upon a time I staffed here (coded their systems) and while there is certainly a clique involved there and there is a bit of a wall to get involved with RP. It was one of the reasons I stepped back from my role as a staffer (well I stepped back to part time until my staff-bit was locked out on me and they started handing my coded systems out to people without my knowledge). It's also why some people I know left the game.
That said, I never got the impression that staff there was malicious or deliberately leaving players out of RP. I think the biggest issue was a lack of true vision for the game. There were two main staffers on the game driving things and I'd often get two entirely different requests for how a system was to be coded. It got frustrated.
They also had little experience on how to keep their more dominate RPers in check, which is what likely led to a lot of the RP wall that possibly exists there. A handful of players started to really dominate scenes. I was in one scene with my alt and they kept referring to themselves as "the A Squad!" with myself and 2 or 3 others right there kind of going "Uh, we're here too..."
Anyway, from my experience and to TLDR this, the staff here are good people who are friendly and approachable they just have some issues controlling parts of their player base which can make finding RP, or enjoyable RP, difficult.
-
I will say this was never my experience over on the DC game. Maybe it was overall run by a different person. But I went in not knowing anyone at all and have had a fantastic time and have never felt like I'm hitting any walls or anything. I will say I brought a few people with me and I did come in running plots and scenes, so I may have helped myself out in that regard; I had some built-in RP and I was able to bring RP to myself.
-
I dunno. I tried the place for a couple months after it opened, and while I had some good RP I also felt like I was on the outside looking in. Part of this was my schedule being hard to RP around because events often took place later in the week right when I was getting ready for work, but I also definitely felt like I wasn't part of the "in" crowd.
I also spent a lot of time off the team channels because one of the players there tended to dominate whatever discussion was going on and he'd frequently spam the channels with one-line train-of-thought stuff that scrolled the screen very quickly. The one time I saw where anyone asked him to chill with that, he basically said "Nope." So, avoiding the channels (and the lounge, no doubt) probably kept me further out of the loop.
The Brotherhood also appeared to be set up as a group that was meant to be a viable alternative to the X-Men in public, sort of straddling the fence in a gray area while not being purely good or bad, but some of the RP to me looked like it was dominated by kill-happy characters doing things that should have got the group a lot more negative press and trouble. If I'd had more time and more of a chance to get further involved with things I would have liked to ICly question some of what others were doing, but by the time I'd discussed it with one or two players the channel spamming thing had happened, staff took the guy's side when a complaint was raised, basically saying he wasn't doing anything wrong, and I decided it was time to move on.
I'm sure there are some good people and good players there, but things didn't work out for me.

I do know scheduling makes it v. hard sometimes on games.
But for anyone who is a nighttime / evening player... I do run stuff (I'm on a bit of a 'hiatus' right now because school kicked my ass the past few weeks) after about 9pm CST and usually on Mondays/Tuesdays if I run earlier. I've primarily played on the DC side, but as noted earlier in the thread: I just picked up Kitty, but I haven't yet gotten to try to get involved in things.
If you're uncertain, please give the DC side a try! Myself, Hal, and Dinah are all running / wanting to run stuff for people. I know Hal has had a beast of a time getting people to join him when he's running plots and nothing makes me more sad than seeing an ST who can't get people to show up.
-
@auspice M/Tu would have been better for me since my schedule has me out W/Th/F nights and every other Sa, but right now I just don't know if I can even go back there whether it's to try the Marvel side again or dip into DC.
-
@wolfs Pyro, right? Several players asked staff to do something about him. And the replies were always negative.
-
@gamerngeek Yes, Pyro, who is/was also Logan.
I did submit a complaint, and this shows the last example of what led to it along with the staff response:
-
@wolfs Alright stuff like that just makes me want to stick to the DC side. I mean I might not get much rp over there after bats left... alright I might not really get any rp as Carmine since Bats left, but I still get some good rp at least without too much hassle.
-
@wolfs Yeah, that's pretty much their classic MO. If you're in the Favored Few, you get to be as annoying, disruptive, and attention-whorey as you like. If you're not, they pull all kind of "Our game, our way, if you don't like it, too bad". Any thought of staff impartiality or staff fairness there is a laughable joke.
-
@gamerngeek The thing I never get is, like. Don't other people also get annoyed when their friends are being obnoxiously, endlessly chatty? I mean. I still get annoyed when that is coming from my friends!
-
I feel that it should be pointed out that player was banned. Pyro/Wolverine.
-
Was there, lost interest quickly. Staff favored a certain handful of people to receive lots of private plot scenes. They'd all go IC randomly and then later post the plot important scene that no one else got the option to join. Interestingly, these Favored Few all seemed to be in X-Men. I don't think staff ever had any idea what to do with the Brotherhood. They should have left it out if all they wanted was a game about X-Men fighting staff NPCs.
-
@iluvgrumpycat Well, that sounds like something that needed to be done. Now I'm wondering what caused it, if it was beyond just this stuff.
