Yeah, you really need to focus on how ethnically diverse the setting is, when it's going to be 200 years in the future after a nuclear war devastates the entire planet.

The Chinese were a major enemy during the wars that led to the state of the world. What about the Chinese in Canada? Did they fight against the United States? Did they support North American forces? Did the Americans try to ethnically purge them? If so, what was the fallout (ha ha) from that?

The fate of the Chinese were part of at least one Fallout 4 sub-plot. I fail to see why it cannot be considered for a Fallout MUSH.

@ganymede IIRC there were both active and somewhat prolific Chinese spies and saboteurs as well as some degree of Chinese internment camps. Also the cool as heck Shi in Fallout 2 (mentioned in passing in FO4)

@ganymede Also I think Edmonton revolted against the annexing thing too, so there may have been other places.

(I think though the only Canadian places are Edmonton, and Ronto though.)

Having a major Chinese ethno-faction would be an interesting way to go.

Xenophobic remnants of the Chinese army.

Considering China attacked through Alaska/Canada, it would make sense for there to be chinese army holdouts and continuations up there.

              Would be a neat twist.

                I like it.

I am not sure that RL diversity of different areas is that important, since the Fallout timeline diverges long before the bombs fell. As long as you use some local flavor for inspiration and interesting themes to play with, you have a lot of leeway there. You can even have random oirish people.

But when is the game set? That's at least as important as where.

@peasoupling I know there's probably zero chance of it happening but I would love for it to be set less then 50 years after the bombs dropped.

Location: In a way, you'll get Toronto. At least the guts of it. We chose our location because of its sandwich of other larger cities just down the river from it. That's why I said that we'd have one setting, but have a grid that allows exploration/visitation or other locations within a reasonable distance. Regardless of its cultural diversity or not present day, that doesn't mean someone can't be whatever nationality they so choose in our setting. It's the future, a fictitious future, so people can be as froggy as they'd like to be. (That being said, I'll pass along the idea of Toronto to the boys, see what they think. Brain bashing still in the process, so actual locations MAY change.)

Timeline: We're thinking about 150-200 years after the first blasts. So, kinda in line with Fallout, Fallout 2 and New Vegas (though, y'know, less deserty.)

Factions: We're working on those! Granted that we just started officially brain storming yesterday, we already have a few factions in mind. We're also doing research before anything is concrete. We'll be staying true to Fallout Lore as MUCH as possible, but given the lack there of for Canada during the series, we have some ample leg room to be original and make some awesome stuff up. All I can promise you about that is we won't go off the wall crazy!

Vault: We just might have one.

What was Canada's advertising and government presentation like in the 40s-60s?

@misadventure We'll be looking into that during our research prior to setting up anything. Given the 'lock' of culture/flare in the game series.

@rizbunz It needs more commercial icons than the Hardboiled comic.

@thenomain I believe what I need is a giant robotic artillary platform in the form of a giant Mountie fighting the PAX Corp in the Maple Leaf Zone.

With Manny Moe and Jack unit icons. And the robot has big tail fins, and chrome.

It would make sense actually, especially from a Vault standpoint, to have a wide range of diversity. If a small group is meant to repopulate the planet, a genetic spread is vital.

That isn't actually what the Vault's were for.

Regardless of the government experimentation purposes, they were advertised as safe havens for people in the event of a nuclear holocaust, and the point of saving people is the continuation of the species. Plus, the G.E.C.K.s were intended to help the inhabitants create a viable civilization in the post-nuclear world after the All Clear signal is sent, meaning there was at least some intention for them to do that. So circling back to my original point, yes, that was at least partially what the vaults were for.

After the battle of Anchorage and the annexation of Canada through force by the United States, there was a heavy Canadian resistance. Not sure if the Canadians would have sided with China, but they may have adapted tech from both the US and China to make their own.

                                          source: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/American_annexation_of_Canada

Also, would Great Britian have sent supplies/troops/spies into Canada to help or hinder the resistance, considering both the US relationship and that Canada is/was a colony.

Depends how hard the UK had suffered during the Resource Wars. Much of Europe was pretty wrecked before 2077.
