I played so, so much Aberrant in the early 21st century. And now it is coming. Back.

Hey, I can either say "the aughts" or I can say something much MUCH cooler and not innacurate.

              Well.

Color me interested. Loved the Aberrant setting...just wish it hadn't kind of fizzled out the way it did (with Adventure! barely even appearing by the time all was said and done).

And holy crap, if I'm reading this right and the opening book is basically a "Present day action-adventure genre" kinda thing? Awesome!

Wonder if we can get an 80's-set "One Man Army" splatbook? 😀

Yes I killed that Cleric, and I hope she burns in all 9 Hells!

I too enjoyed Aberrant and Aeon both. I didn't really get into Adventure, but it fizzling like it did also stole our interest in trying to do more with it.

I like flashy powers, what can I say?

Since I know you are a crunchy system guy, have you read the two previews for the new System they are building? Design name is Sardonyx, it is a "setting agnostic" system designed to handle scaling power levels. It will be used in both Trinity Continuum and Scion.

That sounds intriguing. It might make Scion less of a Legend-measuring contest.

Shit, so they're not adapting the modified wod system again? Daaaaamnit.

We'll see. As has been noted elsewhere, too many people are not interested in learning a new system wholecloth. I'm one of them, more or less.

@HelloRaptor It definitely follows the same roll mechanics as Scion (Attribute + Skill vs variable Difficulty, more successes = more epic), but with the addition of a pair of "fate point" pools (one split among the PCs, one used by all NPCs). Attributes are essentially nWoD attributes, but renamed. Skills are largely rewritten, and there will be "skill tricks" like in Mirrors.

I'm excited. The only thing better than a bunch of smaller, varied nWoD 2e games would be a bunch of smaller, varied games of lots of cool systems and settings. A Trinity Continuum game would be amazing (you could even play a little with the timestream by making three different games-within-a-game and letting the past influence the future and what not); a Scion game would be fucking awesome, especially if run by someone who isn't a psychotic cuntweasel (not that I'm bitter); someone's already working on a Buffyverse/Cinematic Unisystem MU, which is great; I would love to see something fun for Exalted now that third edition is finally coming out (supposedly). The Strange deserves its own MU, too.

I came >this close< to using the Strange for mine. But in the end decided it was too complex.

Wuss! (Also, really? It's loads simpler than your average nWoD. Huh.)

Reading the system notes is fun stuff. I hope they do not use the large chunks of stat bonus successes again as Enhancements. The tiers of stats in Aberrant and Scion were pretty much each a class unto themselves, with no in between steps,

I have a waggish sense of humor.

This was on purpose, though. Ill-conceived, but on purpose.

Yup! A friend was working on a similar tiered feel for an anime RPG a long long time ago, and that has always kept in mind the effect of set values vs randomized ones. The specific being when your max stat+max skill in Scion can't roll enough successes to beat 0 successes rolled backed by an Attribute one (or more) tiers higher. You have to really think about what you want to see in play.

I am glad they went with the Enhancement model, where there is a core base chance you will not succeed, but when you do the Enhancements kick in and give you that heroic level of success.

I am very interested in seeing how the various tiers work out. And I wonder if the tiers themselves will be more.balanced than Aberrant and Scion were (see: Mega-Strength, Epic Dexterity)

One hope would be that responding to certain situation will have higher Success Costs, so tactics might make a bigger difference.

And example (with made up numbers) would be trying to hit someone whose Dexterity gave them +20 successes, atop what their base pool of say 8 dice gives. If something like surprise, a feint, or a distraction could raise the base cost of a Dodge defense, in theory the base 8 dice may not be able to roll enough successes all the time to get that +20 Successes Enhancement.

I have a waggish sense of humor.
