Let's talk about TS.

I've had the whole "Wants nothing but TS thing" happen to me a number of times, too. It... definitely causes a burn out. For sure. I've also stopped logging in to characters because of it. I've full on freezered a character about it, too.
This happened to me when I was younger. I'm old and mean and actually dump the motherfuckers IC now.

@shelbeast
Yeah, never make a character who isn't sexual. It's like it's a challenge for them. I made a weaver drone. No sex drive. (It was basically Sheldon)Got enchanted by a mage and mind controlled by a demon to want sex.
They wanted to "fix" me. -

Thanks, @Carex you're

I like this hashtag. You should start a thread so I can link that to that hashtag in my sig. Yep.

Just start FTB/FFing the TS to move onto something else. Don't have to have any sort of OOC convo about it, you just do it, move on ICly to something else. If they eventually ask OOC, just shrug and say you just feel like RPing other stuff.
Think of it this way: what if you just treat it as any other type/theme of RP that you can get tired of if you do to much of. We all kind of feel there has to be an inherent awkwardness surrounding TS, but what if it was just as casual as being like "all my RP lately has been combat-centric, just wanna do some other stuff"?
If you just start FFing most of the time and the TS is the most important thing to the other player, they'll probably just beat you to the punch re: IC breakup.

Another pet peeve about TS is mages. I was dating a girl ICly when a mage, who literally met her at a party and thought she was cute, used Mind/Corr/Life to impregnate her from across town. Just out of the blue. She had met the guy once for all of three poses. Staff said he could do it so we rolled with it but it was fucked up and she stopped playing that character about a week later.
I mean the guy is a creep, obviously. This isn't even about TS (I mean... there was none either way), it's about forcing another player into something they didn't sign up for in any conceivable way.
But there's no excuse - zero - for staff who let that happen let alone actually encourage it. The only sane response to that was "no, get out", and that should have been the end.
Conversely the only sane response to staff who 'let that happen' is "wtf, lol, bye".
-
@arkandel Joking aside, I completely agree here. If I was on a game where staff let that happen, I'd be out the door in a heartbeat.

Me too.

Yeah... that... staff decision is gross. Letting that happen to a character was a really, really bad decision, and I'm curious as to what thought process was behind that. I wonder if the Mage was a staffer pet or something to that effect. I can't imagine any scenario where even the worst staff I've seen would just let that fly at random.

oWoD games (and Mind/Corr/Life says to me that's what it was) were sort of wastelands of 'what the dice says, goes' from what I've heard (and the little bit I experienced before swearing them off).
For all their issues (many of which exist on other games, mind) now, nWoD games are a much much better place.
-
There was a guy who went on lots of WoD games and made mages just to mind control people into sex. This was that same guy according to rumor. Staff had made it too difficult to rape people in person because he was getting tracked down and almost dying so he just did it over page using dice rolls in such a way that no one would ever know ICly it was him. Jacking off and shooting a load across space and time into a woman's vag, apparently not vulgar.
Rumor had it he got his comeuppins later though because he had been using life magic to guarantee the pregnancy and that left a resonance so when he did it to a feral with awareness they hunted him down as a pack and made him eat his balls.
-
@auspice Fair enough. I've never played on an oWoD game. Funny story... when I first "discovered" MU*s, I was first trying to join an oWoD game set in Miami. I logged on as a guest... looked over the wanted concepts board... Staff had set a few wanted concepts. So, I created a character that fulfilled all but one of those concepts, and melded them together into a seamless whole that would have actually been a really very interesting and useful character in terms of narrative function. I got denied immediately over something that was so minor and petty that I literally can't even remember what it was now. I noped right off of that place without looking back.
At the time, it was the only place I knew about/could find. I didn't have really any knowledge or resources to dig any deeper than I had just to find "Oh... these MU things exist and people RP there." So, I wound up finding the next best thing for me... An nWoD game. And thus, I started my MU life on The Reach as Dorian. All because those assholes running that Miami place were assholes.

@arkandel So if I were staff on this situation I would have done the following.
A) Verify that this is possible and that the Mage has neccisary powers.
B) Grabbed up both players invovled and asled wtf was going on.
C) Told them if they ever bring this shit in front of staff again punishment. Tell female char your choice if it works or not. If creep ball is creeping try ignoring. If continues to harass I will remove him from game.

With Mage the answer is almost always "yes".
B) Grabbed up both players invovled and asled wtf was going on.
There's no need. This isn't an IC issue, it's an OOC one; the primary duty if staff is to protect the game and its players. There wasn't even RP to consider - it was a powerplay by one player toward another, as no poses were exchanged.
It's like an unprovoked telenuke. A telefuck?
C) Told them if they ever bring this shit in front of staff again punishment. Tell female char your choice if it works or not. If creep ball is creeping try ignoring. If continues to harass I will remove him from game.
The 'next time' clause is the problem there. 'Next time' the harassed might not come to staff at all, but either tolerate it because the bullshit worked or just walk out. This guy is just playing the numbers.

@arkandel It also comes across to me like punishing the victim. @Carex's story made it seem like the chick had no idea it was going to happen and certainly didn't consent to it. So pulling them both in and demanding what the hell is going on, and then telling them they'll be banned for it ... is punishing the victim? I would have just dealt with the guy.

Yeah I mean... if there was extensive RP between them (say they were IC bf/gf and they broke up) and then it kinda looks like it got IC creepy at least I'd talk to the guy - alone - to give him the benefit of a doubt. It's still all over the gray line but maybe I could explain where he went wrong and keep him around.
In this case the motives were pretty clear. Meeting someone for five minutes at a party then trying to inflict character-changing effects on them from a distance is a no-no. That's not someone I'd want on any game I was responsible for.
-
There was a dude on TR who kept trying to use biokinesis for all manner of sexual bullshit.
The GMC version of the power is fairly simple and straightforward. The nWoD version is a little more complex, but it was still a very specific list of possible effects.
None of these involved super sperm, inflicting extra fertility on someone, and so on, but creepers gonna creep.
To this day I remember the post that went up titled 'Biokinesis by the Book' that very tactfully reminded the playerbase that the merit only worked as described in the book and in no other way. If I didn't know about the biokinesis sex olympics going on from a number of people 'OMG WTF'ing at me at random when they'd run into this dude, I'd have no idea why that post was made, but knowing it absolutely had to be because of that (and his constant pressure on female players to impregnate them with it), I loved that super basic simple policy reminder enough to laugh my ass off when it went up, and I still snicker just recalling it.
-
@surreality It's also a reminder that fade to black isn't a solution for anything (and I say that since it's often heralded this way - 'just tell them to FTB and move on').
The worst kinds of players aren't even after TS, so they won't be deterred just because there won't be poses involved. They are after power over other players.
-
@arkandel Yes. YES. Exactly.
And the people who want the TS and don't get it due to FtB are often very keen on trying to angle for this kind of misery as 'consequences' that are more long-lasting and gag-inducing than the TS would have been in the first place.
