Mostly I'm just mad that she's so sweet, we're starting to want to keep her even though we Officially Have Too Many Cats. At least one of whom belonged to a neighbor who refused to take him back after he 'got out' and we tracked her down. Apparently she was moving and he was 'too much trouble'. So this is a thing that has happened before and I was hoping it would go better this time.

On the upside, he is a very handsome man and a snazzy dresser. Here's a cute cat picture to make up for my bitching.

Secondly, I just dont comprehend people just... abandoning their animals. Like wtf, too much trouble? I have cancelled vacations rather than leave my Lily alone. Some people just dont deserve pets.

So one the smaller of my two kittens has decided to become a shoulder cat. If I pick her up? She immediately climbs onto my shoulder so that she can be super tall.

But today? She used this elevated vantage point to then leap atop an open door. She did not apparently have any plan for how to get down:

My kitty, Ike, used to have an excellent vertical leap. We used to have to warn visitors that she would leap from the floor to their shoulders. She was very much a shoulder cat. And she often lurked on top of doors.

Nowadays, however, at 9... I think she is developing arthritis. She does not jump any higher than table- and countertops. And she has been spending a lot of time napping on the memory foam bathmat I got. I read that cats and dogs often like memory foam beds if they have arthritis because it's more comfortable for them. So I am thinking of buying her one.

But she still absolutely loves to drape over my shoulders. Those are the best kitties.

@auspice @Aria has discouraged me from letting Pavel be ShoulderCat, because her shoulders (being considerably less broad) don't keep him up as well, and when he starts to slide his claws come out for traction. We compromise when I carry him around like a baby.

To be fair, it's not that I mind him being on my shoulders if he settles in. It's that he launches himself onto them from several feet away, then discovers he doesn't have enough space to land, and then rips my shoulders and my back open. Once he did this from the front while I had my hands full of very breakable objects and I ended up with nine pounds of cat dangling from claws he sank into my lip until I was able to bend low enough for his back paws to hit the ground and him to stop panicking. Pasha is an adorable BabyCat. Pasha is also a rampaging asshole.

HEY GUYS!!

So you're probably not familiar with this unless you live in Florida or happen to be obsessed with greyhounds, but long story short, in FL they've passed Amendment 13, which will result in the closure of all of of Florida's remaining greyhound racetracks within the next two years.

Regardless of your stance on the tracks, the fact of the matter is, almost 8,000 current racers will be put out of service, and the eradication of the industry also puts another near 7,000 dogs, including breeding bitches and puppies, out of use as well, within that time.

The various greyhound adoption groups around the US are mobilizing to do their very best to try and take in and foster these dogs in order to find them homes over the next couple of years. Greyhounds fresh off the track do need to learn and transition into being a "pet" rather than a working dog, but by and large they are gentle, quiet, and love to be lazy. They are actually pretty good apartment dogs.

Long story short, if you are considering adopting a dog in the next few years? Please consider adopting or fostering a greyhound. If you can't adopt or foster, consider donating time or money to a local greyhound adoption group. LOL you saw the pictures of the witch hat I put on my cats, yeah? And the muscle shirt that reads 'Furry is the new tan' with a rainbow on it? Now, in my slight defense, the shirt was to keep Stitch from licking his belly after surgery when he proved to be a cone Houdini. Of course the fact that the photo in question is of my girl Cricket... well. >.>
