@Thenomain Didn't know that existed, but 3 episodes at an hour each doesn't get you much more than a 2 1/2 hour movie. Not having seen this and looking only at IMDB, this series only gives Prof. Bhaer a single episode. You kinda need more than that after the disappointment of Laurie and to show why he's a good foil for Jo. I mean, they might do it well, but I don't think 3 episodes is enough to allow the story to breathe the way it should.

Sony: Rather than admit it's Marvel's guidance and influence that made Spider-Man successful again, we're gonna fuck off and go back to what we were doing. Peace.

I see your Spider-man and I will raise you an official Matrix 4 announcement just because.

Matrix 3's ending was so terrible I never want to revisit the franchise again.

@Admiral It didn't end how I'd have liked, but it wasn't terrible... well, no, it was. I tried. But finales are too often like that, unfortunately.

Still, it doesn't keep me from wanting to see 4. I'm curious to see what 20 years can bring to the table. Whacko Wachowski has had both very good and very bad stuff in those 20 years. Let's see where this one falls.

Fuck Sony. They let the Disney/Marvel team do all the heavy lifting and now they want to continue to milk all the profits for themselves as they ride the momentum someone else built for them. Short-sighted, greedy ingrates. It'll all fade pretty fast once Marvel gets rolling on their next story arc and Spider Man isn't a part of it. What a waste. Marvel just wanted an even split and it wasn't enough that they just made a billion dollars off of them on one movie? This makes me want to stab Sony executives in the face...

                            No.
                            Shit.

Marvel was getting just 5% and wanted more for their effort.

.......when it was entirely because of them that Spider-Man was so successful this go around. Their universe (MCU), their writing skills (I've read articles about their creative process; it's legit, it mirrors Pixar's in many ways, and is just good), and god knows what else (marketing skills? support?).

They fucking deserved more. If they'd been getting, say, 40% and wanted more I'd've been like yo, Marvel, chill out. Sony used their resources to make the movie happen.

But 5%? And Sony wasn't willing to give more? Jesus fucking christ Sony, go eat a bag of dicks.

Eventually, Disney will get tired of this shit and just buy Sony, like they did 21st Century Fox. This strikes me as two very large companies calling each other's bluff; except one company is only large in comparison to any company except the one they're facing. Sony wants to believe it has weight and can move at the same financial level as Disney, but it can't.

Total revenue for Disney last year was about $59.4 Billion.

Total revenue for Sony last year was about $78.1 Billion (remember, Sony Pictures is only one part of Sony).

Disney isn't going to force Sony to do anything they don't want to do (and that includes selling the IP that Sony owns).

More to the point, Sony was not into the idea of sharing profits. If Disney wants Sony's IP, they will need to pony up the money for it, as they did for Fox.

                                        Fair enough.

Of course, Disney just spend 71 billion buying 21st Century Fox; that's a 71 billion dollar investment that starts to pay off pretty soon, not to mention 71 billion dollars they didn't spend on producing content.

I'm pretty sure it's down to how stubborn Sony wants to be and how much revenue Spider-Man actually brings to the table without Disney helping along.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but while Sony Pictures is only part of Sony, it's like, the largest part, when it comes to net worth, by far.

Really, it'll depend on whether or not the ginormous egos up at the top of both mountains can come to an agreement or not.

At some point, a lessor just eyes the lessee and wonders if they just want to buy the property. You can exact a better price that way, since the lessee is entrenched and subject to economic inertia.

Come on, people, Asian people are wise; that's why they let Disney essentially borrow their IP for a bit. Meanwhile, white people are dumb; that's why Fox gave up their IP without letting Disney attach their cash-cow to it first.

All of this isn't bluffing or base stupidity - it's just negotiating. Disney is using public opinion as leverage, making fans' outrage a factor in Sony's decision making.

If Sony believes enough people will be angry enough to not watch Spider-man if the character is detached from Marvel and they expect the diminished sales to be more than the percentage of shared revenue Disney is asking for, then they'll cut a deal. Else they won't.
