I am from the San Diego area originally, grew up using 'soda'. My dad, who is from Michigan, always called it 'pop'. Guess it just depends on what part of the country you're from. Very regional.

Very occasionally do I use soda which is mostly just when speaking to people online so they know what I mean, I think.

Mostly I call 'em 'soft drink'.

Yes, it's a question on those tests you take to determine where you grew up.

Something else, aka, I am wrong

So I guess calling them by their proper names (Sprite, Coke, Mt. Dew) is wrong.

So I guess not calling them any one thing from the list--except Coke--just calling them whatever is handy is wrong.

              Your mom is wrong.

Yeah, that was missing from your list. I've called them that, too.

I use soda, then soda pop, then pop. Never Coke for general use.

I am west coast USA, with Kansas and Texas family.

I have a waggish sense of humor.

@Jaded I live in Louisville. The southern "Coke" thing is mainly on the southern side of the city, and it's dying out.

I started using "coke" exclusively since that time I asked for an "Ice Cream Soda Float" at a restaurant and they brought me soda water with an ice cream scoop in it.

What the fuck is this fuckery??

                    I've got a playlist!

In my part of Australia it is "fizzy drink" or "soft drink."
Fizzy because... it's fizzy. Soft because, by default, drink means booze.
