@GirlCalledBlu I don't know. Not a game I played on and not a person I really knew/knew of previously. Or I did but didn't know who she was? I've never been good at knowing who is who until it's too late. I'm sure someone else will know, though!

ETA: sleepy, insomnia phone typing. Fixing typos.

@Taika probably doesn’t matter in the long run.

@Scissors I think it's both. A lot of people probably don't think they are "as bad as" their behavior. But yeah, I do think in this particular case, he enjoys provoking reactions more than playing/participating.

Spot on. The characters I've seen, the people I've seen him go after, it's all about using whatever works to get under their skin and establish who's boss.

I'm inclined to agree with whoever said that he's probably enjoying all the mentions here immensely. It's still worth it to let him have that satisfaction, though, if it means that the various games don't have to deal with the fall-out of each having to go through 2-3 harassment cases before the jig is up. Any harassment case avoided is a good one.

tbh he reminds me of the 12-year-olds on XBox that think they're big boys because they know how to pair a 'your mom' with a few swears.

ETA: they're the kids who think you leave the match because you're 'triggered,' but it's because they've spent half the match standing in place as they mash out an insult on the keypad. The same thing happens in Rocket League: the worst player in the match is the one who spends the whole time insulting everyone. You don't opt out of another match because you're triggered, you opt out because you want to play someone who is actually worth the effort.

That was me, and I 100% agree with you. Now people can keep an eye out and a banhammer at the ready. It's just good not to engage beyond that if at all possible.

At first, it was fun for me to speculate about how little is going on in his life that this is the only avenue by which he can feel powerful. Then I thought about it seriously, and I just kind of feel sorry for him. Like, can you imagine being such a loser that dodging bans on a make-pretend game is how you feel powerful? You just know he's the kind of person who would put kittens in metal trash cans and light fires under them except he's afraid the cat would scratch him up.

EDIT: Actually, no, a kitten torturer isn't quite right. You know who he really reminds me of? Hank's friend Dermott from the Venture Brothers.

Back in the day when he played on Arx (Shadow) he tried to frame my PC for murder. I had to sit through a least a couple hours of at least 2 PCs interrogating me trying not to laugh as they did it.

I was playing Lark, High Lady at the time. (*Not the OG Lark).

Oh yeah, I mean, that's the entire thing.

The whole scale of it is just so small and pathetic. There are people who cause serious, real problems for people. This guy? Is like a wasp in your house. Yes, unchecked, it could be a problem, but it's a single wasp and it's obvious, so you just open a window and shoo it out and it'll buzz and bump against the window angrily all 'hey hey, hey, look, hey, let me in, look, hey, let me in' and you can just go about your business.

He's causing more work and more effort for himself to keep going back onto places and that's what's so funny-sad about it all. He's so goddamn desperate to be a part of everything and yet instead of just not being a sack of shit... he's putting extra effort into being a sack of shit.

It's really easy to get along and he just literally cannot.

He's actually very nice and reasonable and likeable -- until he isn't. He's perfectly capable of settling into a game, being someone you'll want to play with, joining the club. If he wanted, he could absolutely be a good addition to any roleplaying group -- well spoken, fast typer, imaginative.

It's just not what he wants. It's a little sad-funny, watching someone who has all the toys throw them out of the pram like that.

Mine are already in the thread. Not that they're disturbing. Just a poor effort at being menacing.

There's a patch out for Ares now that fixes the bugs in the ban feature.

And contrary to what Troll may insist, they were, in fact, bugs. Silly oversights like "doh! the ban list is checked alongside the password but guests don't use a password", for instance.

Ares and Rhost both have an optional proxy blocking feature that will block players from known proxy sites (using a list graciously managed by @Ashen-Shugar). This doesn't stop all VPNs, but it can make it a little more difficult for a troll to play whack-a-mole with you. (At the cost of inconveniencing legit new players who may want to use proxies from work or whatever.)

That said, MUSHes are not exactly bastions of security. A savvy ten-year-old can bring down a MUSH--it hardly takes a Machiavellian tech genius. This is nothing more than someone wrecking the sandbox to keep the other kids from having fun. Sad, really.
