Any information on this? Who is developing it? Anyone want to admit to it? (Privately as I know Litigious Linda is lurking).
I am interested...

Looks fun, if it ever opens, I'll be sure to check it out!
-
Wouldn't be surprised if the people opening this were the same people who ran the other GoT/GoT-like games. Hope this one will stick and not implode.

Unfortunately, one cannot log in as a Guest into this place to check it out...

Probably not the Steel & Stone crew -- I was of that number and still chat with most of the other staffers, so I likely would have heard. But possibly one of the others! I know there was a lot of chatter about starting a new GoT game after the last hubbub of conversation about GoT games in general. Or I guess possibly other S&S people that I'm not still in contact with.

I'd be down for playing/helping make a game that takes place before the Targaryen conquest, maybe setting it in one of the seven kingdoms. The Vale would be cool.
-
How do you make it interesting though? What sets the SoIaF apart from any other generic low-magic fantasy setting - for me, at least - is the plot, its particular setup of interesting characters, political stability being torn apart by a dynamic from internal and external forces at the same time, etc.
A GoT game placed in some other non-book related time period (and I'm including the Egg and Dunk stories in this) won't have the advantage of using tropes other book series-inspired games arguably have. For instance a Mistborn or Wheel of Time game would still have the rules of magic for characters to play with, but what would differentiate this from any other gritty/realistic world?

It's a good question, though I will say that just placing it in the same universe as the books/show really will inspire some players to emulate the action and story styles. It is one of the main values of using any established setting, especially a television/film one. The players have an example of how to have things go.
I am curious how that would go over with shared settings, such as the Thieves World series of books, where the various authors felt a little out of step for style, substance, and so on (to me).

My problem is that doing it before the Targaryen rebellion would prevent people from flooding the game with uberspechul platinum blonde Targs. But as long as it is not BoD, I don't give a fuck.

A game set in the Riverlands shitsstorm during the war of the 5 kings would be a lot of fun. I think the war lasted about a year or two in universe, that's plenty of time for a mush to do its thing.
-
I would be down for it. Anything other than nWoD.
-
Though I reckon that I would prefer something that doesn't follow the books or the shows for the sake of artistic license. A futuristic setting, taking place maybe 400 years after Targaryen reconquest, where the Westerosi conquer a new land on the planet similar to the Spanish/Mexica conflict would be interesting. Room for new families. New plots. New ideas. But again, I understand where others are coming from. I would be very much interested in playing in the books, weaving new stories around characters like the Telltale Games have been doing.
-
Or a war for the north game where everyone resists the Bolton/Frey takeover
-
I would love a low magic fantasy setting, but, I'd prefer Conan over Game of Thrones...
-
i think a game that's Conan-esque with some Renaissance failr might be interesting. Something different, something not exactly Westeros.
-
How about a MU* set in Joe Abercrombie's world? It's the definition of grimdark without reliance on any one plotline or world; characters could begin as nobodies and end up Named Men, nobility, whatever. Its magic is low level but brutal, and plenty of politics as well as conceptual possibilities for duelists, northern badasses, mercenary company leaders, you name it.
I'd play the hell out something like that.

Conan is a fantastic setting. The books are really underrated if you ask me.

I could go either way....

Not sure how well sword and sorcery does as a large gaming group setting and action type. Sorta like saying an all Indiana Jones adventures game would be hard. Plenty of stuff to be sure, but with so many players how to you arrange them, allow then to hang out etc?
