Shadow War - WoD Mage-Only (Revised)
-
Just wanted to add as a note that, despite a lot of custom numina being outside the scope of intended play, there's still Creative Thaumaturgy. With a floating magi-tech city, a planet in ruin and a magic-heavy, super-science moon base, there should still be plenty of opportunities to get creative with your magic.

I have no clue what this MUSH is really about. But...I'm intrigued....oddly.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'use their antagonists'.
I meant True Fae, BSD, Baali, etc.
-
Q: Continued clarification on antagonists.
A: Short-hand: this will be decided on a case-by-case basis, with final decision based on how much we like you and whether or not we think a True Fae really fits into the story of the game. One of these bases will be more important than the other.
I have no interest in writing theme for old splats, or trying to marry too much of the old and new for other gamelines. That isn't what this game is about. So for the most part, what you're talking about will just be Monsters, and going too far down the rabbit hole of specifics will depend.
-
@HelloRaptor Thanks. It's now a lot more clear how the theme got from point A to point B.
-
This sounds awesome. I may have to tiptoe on in, if that's cool.

If I recall correctly, in the original Ascension end of days stuff, the endgame was that the world collectively Awoke. Every Bob everywhere who wasn't already something else, went through a spontaneous Awakening. The fuckery of this resulted in humanity becoming sort of collectively aware for just a moment, of the Nephandi in their midst and the things they were bound to, and just as collectively expressing their newly Awakened will by saying "Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck alllllll of that." and evicting them in some form or fashion.
It leaves a lot of questions, like whether or not it would do any good (the things that made Nephandi were still out there after all, so more could just come about), and just what would constitute consensual reality when everybody's Awakened (i.e. there is no more Bob to serve as a baseline for what the rules are), etc. Only in the abstract though, since presumably in this world, things didn't go quite humanity's way.
All of the end of days stuff ended in pretty epic fashion. Most of the books included variations and options, but I think each had a core one it focused on. I want to say that Changeling ended with a bit of a bang too, with Glamour flooding the world and ripping open everybody's eyes to Faerie, but it's been a veeeery long time since I read it.
Pretty sure Werewolf ended with everything getting eaten by the Wyrm or some variation of the same. I don't think anybody really cared how Vampire ended. Wraith got blown up early so didn't get one.

I have a friend who doesn't mush but is really interested in this project, but wants to know for clarity:
This will be using the Ascension traditions/factions just put through the Mage translation guide? (e.g. There will be Void Engineers, Technocracy, Celestial Chorus, etc?)
-
Where do you perceive the game will fall on the scale between <consent-based> <-> <hardcore politics/backstabbing yo> ?
-
@Cobaltasaurus Well, the translation guide will be used where we can apply it, but it depends a lot on what Mage 2.0 mechanics are like and how much it works with the translation guide.
That being said, thematically it will be entirely oWoD, with Virtual Adepts, Void Engineers and all the rest. Hermetics will be pulled out into their own group, so we'll have the Trads, Technocracy and Hermetics as the three pillars of mage power, but they'll all be there.
@Arkandel That's probably best left for @EmmahSue to answer, so I'll leave it for her.

I take it that there is not host or port address yet for this game as it is still in gestation?
-
Not even the rules are out yet.

VIRTUAL ADEPTS!

@Arkandel Q: Where do you perceive the game will fall on the scale between <consent-based> <-> <hardcore politics/backstabbing yo> ?
A: Two of our keyphrases are "Frenemies" and "Choose Your Battles Wisely". Tentative truce will be in place between all three factions, with varying degrees of giveadamn about the old Ascension War as PCs deem fit. While I'm not against fighting between factions or within groups (play as you like), my stories will be focused on the overall situation and the Nephandi for the most part. Call your answer a solid 'middle ground'.
@HelloRaptor Q: I think the burning question on everyone's mind is whether ES and Glitch will allow playable, Awakened dolphins as PCs or not, or if they are just assholes who hate fun.
A: Haters gotta hate!
@BigDaddyAmin Q: I take it that there is not host or port address yet for this game as it is still in gestation?
A: Ark is correct; we're waiting for the rules to come out so we can convert and write up the cross-walk.

Trinary decker rigs, only 10 lbs super lightweight. Cyberpunk forever! (We are sticking with the original 1998 vision of the future, right?)

I remember my last VA had a little Wall-E style robot companion long before Wall-E was a thing. I missed that little bot and his preprogrammed antics. XD

That'd be pretty stupid, so I'd imagine not.

I don't think sticks up bums is any better network protocol. But you know what is?

And so the Internet of Things shall rule the future. Nevermind calling it the Matrix or the Net. VA renamed it in 2010 and it's just now catching on.
