I don't like pancakes. But I do love blueberry syrup and pancakes are about the only thing I've found where I can get my fix.

I am not a syrup fan, either, but waffles as the bread of a sandwich/wrap of a taco sounds pretty frickin' amazing.

        Oh fucking well.

I love pancakes. In fact, I had pancakes, scrapple and home fries for breakfast this morning. With butter and grape jam on the pancakes, as Nature intended 😉

gulyás is one of our National Dishes, the actual kind is basically a soup or stew with a ton of paprika in it and usually nokedli, which are these little dumpling things, on the side

I like my goulash super thick, so I doubt it would pass the authenticity test, but the dumplings instead of noodles sound amazing.

I’ve never seen american paprikash and please no one hurt me by showing it to me if there is one that uses like thousand island dressing and hot sauce or something

The only paprikash I've ever seen is bone-in, skin-on chicken fried in canola oil, removed to cool. Add diced onion to the oil, then a bunch of paprika (yet somehow not enough?). Return the chicken to the pan with some diced plum tomatoes, diced peppers, and chicken stock. Served over sour cream dumplings I can't make any more because I'll give myself diabetes. It was alright, but I couldn't get past knowing the sauce was by volume 27% canola oil.

I used to dislike pancakes but I've always loved waffles. This past year however I keep finding myself making pancakes as a snack. Go fig.

Why not? They're cheap ($7.40 for a 10lb bag of mix at Wally World), easy to make, taste great and are more filling than Ramen. Pancakes are one of my go-go to meals on those nights when I crawl home from work without the energy to even take off my shoes, let alone cook.

The fact that I'm cooking them and not my mother helps. A lot of the foods I hated came from a) not knowing food sensitivities as a kid (and parents who didn't believe in allergies unless they were the nearly kills you kind) and b) my mother being an absolutely terrible cook.

She never cooked the pancakes properly so they were always a little doughy and they'd make me sick. So. I disliked pancakes for decades.

I honestly don't find pancakes very filling in the long run. Maybe I'm just weird though.

I never really liked pancakes until I started making them. My father, bless his heart, has never figured out gluten. His pancakes are like rubber.

MY pancakes are fluffy and delicious.

I only consume meat and anguish.

I know I'm late, but I wanted to throw my 2 cents in. From my experience in MUSHing primarily in WoD spaces there typically isn't a lot of representation, but that's usually due to locale. Especially those set in New England and the Pacific Northwest. However, when I see games set in places with large black and other POC populations it always struck me as weird that every NPC was white. It's not a crime nor do I think there's even a hint of anything malicious, but it always looked weirdly, I guess, colorblind. I do have to admit that the majority of my experience with MUSHes are in WoD until relatively recently.

In the non-WoD and rostered games I've tried there's rarely non-white options on rosters or regions. I can't speak for Arx if anyone wants to bring them up as I only poked at the place for a few weeks before dropping off the planet. The more bothersome bit is what I see in fantasy games regardless of the medium. Essentially shoving Arab and Sub-Saharan cultures together, and calling it a day. I guess it bothers me because I don't see it as much for other locales and cultures. An easy example of this, if you don't mind the tangent, are the Redguards in The Elder Scrolls series. I won't lie. I'll take that over black folks not existing in a universe more often than not.

What @HelloProject was talking about is also something I've seen and known quite a bit in role playing when it comes to POC playing white characters. Before my time in MUSHing and in java/iirc I would sometimes get shit for not playing a white character in a predominately white area (seriously, something is up with WoD players and a love of New England), not typing out AAV (even if that's a large part of how I talk ooc), or, my favorite, not understanding why I really don't care for the vast majority historical settings.

In case it does need to be said: I've never felt attacked or like my presence wasn't welcomed on a MUSH due to my skin color or that of my PCs. I'm black, the vast majority of my PCs (I know I have had too many), and the only times anything troubling has ever come up is the typical "why would someone of this ethnicity be here!" or some of the typical exoticism. I also don't fault or think there's anything wrong with white folks wanting to stick to playing white PCs because it's what they're most comfortable with. On the flip side, I don't think there's anything wrong with those that wish to play a POC. I just think that, as HelloProject said, you need to learn to hold that L if someone points out that your portrayal is backwards, fucked up, or just outright ignorant.

Y'all finished or y'all done? I ain't go no more talkin'.

@Ganymede I feel this. The husband was genuinely stunned over the past few months at home re: just how much meat I have to eat to not be constantly asleep and sick as a dog.

To him, 'food with meat' is 'here is a casserole that has a small amount of meat in it'. I mean, technically, that is food with meat.

It is not what works to deal with the 'I NEED MEAT NOW.' He doesn't quite grasp that that's fine for filler or a baseline, but it doesn't deal with the 'my body needs meat now or I'm going to zombify' whatsoever.

"But you had casserole that has some meat in it yesterday?" <-- does not mean I can just skip the meat foods for the next three days. 😕

                                Oh fucking well.

                                    Also, Salem witches.

In the WoD plots I was running recently, I did my best to include POC characters -- the plots were mostly set in Mexico, so obviously there were a lot of Mexican nationals, but also just... anything I could think of that fit and WASN'T a standard-issue WoD-type character. I didn't set out to go "okay, this plot needs a black woman," but when coming up with the NPC background stuff I did say "okay, what if this NPC joined up with the other ones in Atlanta while they were going cross-country, so why not make the Atlanta NPC a black woman..." and so on.

I'm not going to act like some kind of genius or savior or anything, but at the very least it was more fun to try and reflect a lot of different experiences and voices in my plots' NPCs than just another group of dickhead white vampires.

                                    now playing
