I am and I like it. I mean it's normal MMO stuff but it's been fun for me so far.
-
I've been enjoying it, though the lack of warning that you're entering an area FAR above your level is a bit aggravating.
-
Oooh, intriguing! I prefer immersive MMOs that don't have sign posts for things like that.
-
@ominous Oh yeah, you won't know until you're already in the area and likely facing an enemy that's obscenely strong.
-
I was asked to play it. What is the draw? As in, what are some cool things it has over 'traditional' MMORPGs like WoW or FFXIV?
Is there decent content for PvE? Is the game aimed for raiding, crafting, exploration?
-
The draw is definitely not the
trippingjumping. -
I'm playing and enjoying it. It's heavy on the crafting at the moment, and I'm not sure what direction it's going to go in.
There's PvP if you want it and there are three factions, which is infinitely preferable to the two faction standard setup. All three have the same access to areas, and PvP is entirely optional. I haven't indulged in PvP yet, but there are forts with upgradeable locations, and siege camps, suggesting it's going to be a lot like DAoC was for that side of things.
So far it's interesting. I've mostly been noodling around doing my own thing, though, rather than questing.

I really like how it's kind of got a survival game vibe along with the quests and stuff you do in a typical MMO. Yeah, there's a lot of crafting, but it feels different compared to crafting in other games. It feels... fun. The PVE has a good amount of content, both story side and side quests. And the story's really compelling.
-
@arkandel So there seems to be open world style raids in the form of the 'red skull' events, but those also tend to have a level attached to them. Crafting is definitely a bit part of it, I still get most of my equipment from either leveling or crafting. Exploration is also a large part of it. I fell down a rabbit hole of quests that kept leading me farther and farther away from my starting point.
And @Solstice isn't wrong in that the jump/dodge mechanic is pretty bad.

I may not be playing the game, mostly because I'm not too heavy into MMOs, but I would be very careful to anyone that happens to be using something along the lines of a RTX 3090 or 3080ti. There were reports back in August during the live beta that it bricking GPUs, and yes, before anyone asks, software is more than capable of doing irreparable damage to hardware.
Amazon hasn't really taken any kind responsibility with this, saying that it's the various GPU manufacturers(Gigabyte being one of the larger produces of APIs where this issue has been cropping up). I don't know the whole specifics, as I'm not a driver or API engineer to be able to explain it more accurately, but the issue seems to be stemming from power draw spikes. And considering that a lot of these newer GPUs are running on a 350 wattage draw as opposed to the traditional 280(270? 260? I forget off the top of my head), that random power spikes during play can take that power draw far beyond the maximum load capacity of the physical board, causing literal burning which could lead to potential bricking.
So, if you do have one of these higher end cards(though, I don't know if this happening for the 6900 XT or 6800 XT, as I have a feeling this might be more Nvidia than AMD on this one), I would strongly advise you to manually set your wattage to 90% at the very least and turn off any and all overclocking on the card while playing this game in particular.
I only know of one person who frequents these forums that has a GPU of that high level(and they know who they are and they are fucking lucky they even got their hands on one, at retail no less with the way the electronics market is currently), but this is something you should maybe keep in mind until Amazon figures out just what exactly is going on. As far as I know, this issue hasn't stopped happening since the game has gone public, though I can't say if it's happening more or less.
-
@testament Soooooooooo, this isn't necessarily Amazon's fault. There were a few graphically high end games that were bricking the 3080/3090's. One of my favorite streamers was down for two weeks because he started playing a new game and it absolutely bricked his PC. He RMA'd it, but he's been hesitant to try again since EVGA still hasn't really accepted responsibility for having done something with the cards that caused them to brick in the first place. So he's unsure if the replacement card he got is going to have the same issue.
-
@too-old-for-this I had heard about that. It's sad to hear since EVGA is probably my favorite secondary manufacturer for components(behind Steel Series and Corsair).

For those who aren't yet aware, some major vulnerabilities have been found in New World. One or two things mentioned in the video don't work any more, but the fix didn't actually solve the basic problem.
-
@grayson wow that's a bug. Last time I caught that working was 2000, and that wasn't a released product.
-
@tiredewok I'd have responded sooner but I've been playing New World!
Most of the bugs are pvp issues.
Pvp players are great at exploring any and all 'strategies' in their attempts to win. Usually results in finding all kinds of bugs and exploits.Pvp is more for end game and optional.
-
@lilli The vulnerabilities will get used PvP first - PvP players are competitive and frequently competitive enough to be wankers about it - but you don't need to be involved in PvP to suffer when the code can go in General chat for everyone to be affected by.
Being able to generate gold out of thin air? That's not a PvP problem. That's a problem for everyone. And I dread to think what'll happen when someone finds a way to inject malicious code rather than just images from the game's own files or a blank yellow square with 'image not found' in the middle.

I've already stopped playing. Between the repetitive quests and bugs, along with all the new content coming out for Animal Crossing, I'm just feeling done for now. Might pick it up later, once everything's fixed.
