How hard should staff enforce theme?

@Ghost, Clicking on a @Cirno image link will likely result in things you cannot unsee, but it is safely tucked into a link. Just don't give in to the temptation, particularly in situations where you don't want to look at really bad furry art.
How dare you conflate furries and bronies, and....ahhhh hahahahaha!
You almost got me! Hee hee hee!

Also, my personal signature OC is fabulous, and you are all just jellomad that she isn't your waifu. [Nod]
She has a big bottom.

@Cirno I'm laughing. You can't hear it but I'm laughing. LOL be er means the person is actually laughing out loud, but I got a good laugh out of this.
Thanks for the good addition to the morning, Cirno.

Not to turn this thread into What's Wrong With Changeling Players, but Winnie the Pooh and Hedge Bars are from people who are unfamiliar with the source material. Once things like this get approved, staff would have to take a break from their otherwise very busy day and find a good resolution to make this stuff not happen. The discussion might start with something like, "I think you may have read the wrong book."

To be honest? I kind of feel like, without the sex element, xWoD would never have flourished. The various settings are such a magnet for sexy roleplay that True Blood, Eclipse, or Anita Blake likely wouldn't exist had it not been for online vampire roleplay throughout the years.
I say this because my tabletop group doesn't want to gather every other week to roleplay depressing shit. One of my players is a cop who has seen some really depressing shit. So they like their pretend funtimes to be swashbuckly with the feeling of Han Solo and/or Firefly. I tried to pass WoD/BSG past them, but they weren't interested. They like Call of CthulhuTech because it's short term horror, and I'm sure they don't feel comfy getting into the sex element of xWoD around a bunch of bros and my buxom, tattooed significant other.
People don't like to roleplay depressing shit all of the time. It's hard on the soul and it isn't an escape from our already depressing, aging, someday-to-be-wormfood lives.
So, without the sex element, would xWoD have become so big, or become so big online? I don't think so, and I think the Winnie the Pooh giggletimes Changeling players roleplay cute stuff as a means to let off pressure due to a lack of want to truly embrace the themes of horror, destroyed lives, and quicksand darkness xWoD provides.

I want to see a Pooh Bear running around the Hedge wearing Piglet's head as a hat and Tigger's pelt around his shoulders like a cloak... decorated with Owl's feathers and Eeyore's tail. Rabbit's Foot hanging around his neck like a grisly good luck charm. Kanga and Roo with him like a pair of vicious dogs, held back by chains and iron collars.
Winnie the Pooh meets Lord of the Flies. That's the Hedge I've always wanted to see and never got to experience.
Clearly you have never written with me. But this can be arranged.

...The Hedge transforms PoohBear into Naughty Bear and starts hanging entrails around like Yule decorations.
That's cute and horrific, but misses the point.
If you're going to play a game based on paranoia of being whisked away to another land to be treated like a Tzimisce meat-puppet, there should never be a Pooh Bear Happy Dwelling in the first place. It's one thing to clamor about "wrong-fun" over-policing, and another to stop people from taking a shit on every part of the thematic material.

Aha! But what about the element of Grimm's Fairy Tales?
I think, when it comes to Changeling, it's perfectly fine to, say, come across the embodiment of what was the basis of a fairytale, hell, perhaps the very vision of influence that influenced a fairytale writer, only to find it goes "Grimm's Style" or has been used as a means/lure to procure children and tasty mortals in a horrific way.
The sweet little old lady in the woods who offers you sweets and then tries to lock you away to devour you piece by piece is a very in-theme thing for Changeling.

Perhaps we are working with different versions of Changeling: the Lost, or coming from a different perspective, but in my opinion, the player's character is the sweet little old lady. She just doesn't know it yet.

@Ganymede I like that approach. It's a very sexy, between the lines approach. Bravo.

It's one of those sad times I feel compelled to agree with you. I had a similar butthurt issue on SHH when all kinds of people seemed to be having no post-apocalyptic issues at all; beer was flowing freely (beach party!), there was electricity, the internet, better medical care than we get in Canada (courtesy of a bunch of bored Life 5 Mages around), bars were open, at least one person had a cool car...
Granted, I was told it's not quite the way it was but just how I perceived it, yet wrongfun was something I kept muttering to myself over and over again anyway.
-
With all those 600 xp characters you expected it to get worse? I would expect it to get more magical because now magic was known about. Magic generators, fertility charms on the farms, countywide warding against baddies. And only a little fisheye-ism.

I cannot imagine why a place set up to avoid the "rampant corruption" on a game with few directives and less direction would ever devolve into a mutual jerkfest game.

To answer the thread question: as hard as possible. A strong a d clear vision does wonders for a game, and if you want something more casual and open, you can run with a casual, open theme.

My favorite kind of horror is the one where normal things take on sinister meaning, drawing questions about ones own understanding of the world, having to corrupt oneself to survive it. It's not strictly horror, but it does start to give the idea of what is acceptable for a game.

Alice in Wonderland can be read without the satire element, for example, and legitimately so, so how would you enforce the satire and fucked-up nature of a theoretical AiW game?
Not a theoretical question. How would you enforce a certain reading of Alice to get that kind of game?
