Along the same lines one of the most wince inducing things I have ever heard from NCIS
"<name> has the high score on almost every MMO out there."
I was just ugh, disregarding the score on an mmo issue the shear amount of time that would be required to maintain a 'high score' on even two let alone "almost every" one would be so much that the person would not have time to sleep or eat let alone whatever it was the plot had them doing.

@ThatGuyThere Who has the high score on even say, WoW? What's a high score?
-
@Arkandel Grins that is part of the wince inducing.
I suppose you could say level or xp total but even then I know there are multiple people that have maxed that out. -
@ThatGuyThere On almost every MMO I've ever played the max level is a given, that's when the game begins. The levelling process is just gravy.
But then again NCIS gave us this immortal gem.

I just... I can't even... no.

You are just envious of their VB UI skills.

Fuck WoW. I play EVE. Only person with a high-score there is The Mittani, and he purportedly doesn't even have an active account anymore. #InsideBaseball

tl;dr - EVE is described as "a so-so spaceship game with the world's best Meta."
The Mittani is the Something Awful (Goonswarm) faction's dictator. He doesn't have a current account, he just plays the metagame and makes a solid income on the side running a set of fansites including one that used #gamergate as a springboard to launch into broader games 'journalism.'
His history's really a fascinating read if you like space politics. But he's winning an MMO: he doesn't pay to play, and he makes money off of other people who do, without working for the publisher.

I hate EvE. It is spreadsheets in space.
But I do like the universe. Roleplaying in the Amarrian Empire would be fascinating.

I was super stoked when White Wolf and CCP teamed up. An EVE tabletop was supposed to come out of it, by WW's hands. Alas, it has perished along with the World of Darkness MMO.

Is there some distinctive fiction and topics that players could emulate lacking the massive simulation that is EVE to drive conflicts and the economy?
-
@Misadventure Wandering off this thread: but yes. The game's lore is fantastic sci-fi stuff.

The President would have to be an NPC. If you don't do this, then everyone is going to be super metagaming just to get that position, even for a few moments. And then when they do they'll get bored pretty quickly and log out.

I once played an online campaign where each player started as the leader of a party a few weeks before elections for the congress of a fictional European principality, this allowed us to have parties that advocated for Republicanism or to mantain the Prince as the Chief of State. I personally went with a moderate Libertarian party and I was managing to get some attention from the media. Sadly, it went downhill when some guy decided that he wanted to create a nazi party and the admins allowed it.
