          @Coin

I haven't been to Normal School in a long time, but, uh, cellphones on my campus were confiscated temporarily every start of the class. Those caught with them, were confiscated permanently. Written agreement made by parents when they sent their kids there. So, I mean, there's that.

But, I double-dog-dare someone to hit me because they are playing this game. Hit my new car, so I can get another, and feed my inner-capitalist.

Also, to that bitch that keeps looking at his phone on the weight set. Fuck off already, mate.

Given that Pokemon Go has surpassed Tinder, and now porn for searches, Pokemon Go isn't going anywhere soon.

Wasn't there a South Park episode riffing on this like a decade ago?

Except then the game was a conspiracy to build a death army for Japan. At least this version is a death army for the CIA, I guess.

I had someone trying to tell me that Niantic is super evil. So evil that Google had to cut all ties with them.

Not that, y'know, Niantic was one of a number of companies let go when Alphabet restructured.

If they're so evil, why are they addressing the issues with the security problems and are working with Google to fix them when they could perhaps exploit it?

The funny thing is, people are still posting about how they 'have access to your entire Google account!' except they released an update on Wednesday that fixed all of that. And have made statements.

But naw, let's just do the usual social media herd mentality and focus on the bad issue that's already resolved. 😐

I mean, I think it's legit to question how much data about ourselves we're giving to random companies every day through our phones. We have far less privacy than we ever bother to think about. In a way, I'm not sorry people are freaking out a little, because in general I think we don't spend enough time freaking out about this stuff.

But I'm far more concerned about what Google and Facebook are doing with my information (and how much money they're making off it) than Pokemon Go.

Hey guys! If you ever lose your password like I did to Facebook, and the email you used phased out ten years ago? If you just take a photo of your State ID or driver's license, Facebook would be happy to open your account right back up!

From 2000-20012 I was without a cellphone at all. It made job-duties stupid difficult, but my life far better and disconnected. The looks of horror I would get, you know, were a bonus.

@HorrorHound Be aware there is a sad flipside to this; the passport/driver license thing is being looked at by poorly trained, highly overworked people which makes them prone to social engineering attempts.

For example a year or so I temporarily lost control of my Blizzard account. All someone had to do was get their hands on my real name knowing I also play WoW (which isn't hard since I'm posting on social media about the game), then they took an image of a random driver's license from a province I've never even been to let alone issued any government papers in, photoshopped the name on there and added an equally random picture of some guy on it then sent it in as 'proof' that I wanted my password changed. Blamo!

I restored it easily enough afterwards but you get the point. Imagine if it was something more serious or critical than a game account?

I wonder how they picked the locations to use for stops and gyms.

The really nice, upscale, safe and clean park right next to my house, has nothing. The park across town, in the open air drug market next to the homeless shelter, has 3 stops and a gym.

They pulled the data from Ingress, which did portals based on user submissions.

@RnMissionRun Maybe you should stop living such a boring life and go buy some drugs and hit the pokegym.

Like Sunny said, the Pokestops/Gyms came from Ingress. They used about 2/3rds for Go (roughly, based on where I live and which portals became stops/gyms).

I so agree with this, it is the reason exactly two people I work with have my cell phone number, it is a small company and i know those two would only call if it is actually important, (and well they are the two with the power to fire me.) any one else or other less important issues, it can wait til the next morning I get in.
