Mac Client Recommendations?
-
To use an example a little less generic/more detailed than my earlier remark; I actually had a friend who was a wonderful RPer, but he had nerve damage from his military service which left his hands stiff and with a tremor. It wasn't that he wanted to type like he did, but he often had extra spaces or transposed letters and it made his portion of a scene very hard to read, because if he typed very precisely it took him forever, and he didn't want everyone to wait on him.
He was on Windows and didn't have an option for autocorrect, but he remarked at one point when someone else complained about their autocorrect turning a thematic term into something else for the third time that, if he had the option, he would absolutely have had an automatic correction system on.
So, yes, it's actually very useful to some people. I personally find the autocorrect annoys me (both because, say, if I'm trying to use a term like 'volus' and it turns it into 'bolus', and for the aforementioned go/og -> of) and so I turn it off globally, but not everyone does. Some out there do find it legitimately very useful.
That's actually supposedly why Apple put autocorrect on the desktop. Not because it's like a phone, but primarily as an accessibility feature. (Having it on by default is the decision I might question, as no other accessibility features are. But regardless.)

@Roz Thank you!

I would happily give money for an updated version of the client!

I used Atlantis for a solid period of time and even though I'm not a Mac user these days, I would contribute to a Help @Sparks Finish 2.0 fund on account of all the use I got out of it.

Can anybody tell me where Atlantis puts it's damned addressbook file, so I can just open it in terminal and grab all my passwords? I've forgotten them, of course, and want to transfer the info to a second computer, and as far as I can tell, one cannot unmask them.

Sorry, I missed this post way back when you made it, so now I'm replying SUUUUPER LATE when you probably no longer need it.
However, if you go into your hidden '~/Library' directory and copy the 'Application Support/Atlantis' directory over to the same spot on a new computer, you'll get all your worlds/spawns/hotkeys/etc. If you want window positions and such as well, you can grab ~/Library/Preferences/net.riverdark.Atlantis.plist and copy that over too.
I sadly didn't make a good tool for revealing passwords (which is why Atlantis 2.0 will use Apple's keychain system), but the .awd (Atlantis World Data) files are just Apple's binary class serialization plists; it's possible to get passwords out of them that way. I could also whip up a quick tool to walk world files and dump character/password combinations when needed to recover them.

I love you.
As it happened, the computer troubles that made me think it was urgent are resolved, but it's really a totally vital thing to be able to do.
BTW, the Atlantis support forum thing has the same question posted, with no answer.

Also, good lord, what a pain -- thing is, I didn't want to move the characters to a new computer also using Atlantis, I wanted to put them onto this horrible windows box and run Potato or summat. But at least I can read the passwords out of the .awd files and access 'em! Fangs!

Sadly, work has eaten me alive; I have little time to breathe, and I haven't for about 2-3 months. (@Roz and @saosmash can attest to this, they've witnessed it.)
Short form: I need to catch up many things.
-
No worries; I am pretty sure when I downloaded and installed Atlantis it was pretty explicit that support was not guaranteed in any way.
I really like Atlantis. Thanks.
(Though I do wish it'd give me the option to unmask the passwords, and also and get a tinyfugue-like list of my existing worlds in a 'character-name, password, address, port, new line, next-character-name...' format for relatively easy hand-porting into other MU clients.)

There's actually a way to do thatβI had a way to export worlds as a tiny.worlds fileβbut it was an experimental feature that only ever made it into the debug/development builds. I'll see if I can't dig up a working 10.6 VM and stick that feature back into the main release once I'm back from Yet Another Business Trip and near my actual computers.

Maybe add 1Password support while you're at it no no aigh no just kidding!

I've been using Atlantis for a bit and for the most part haven't had any issues (spawns are sooooo easy to set up compared to TinyFugue!). Only thing I can't figure out -- assuming it's even possible -- is setting up auto-logging. Am I blind and just not seeing this option anywhere? All I've seen is the open log menu bar option and it appears I have to toggle that myself and set a new file name every time. Which of course just means I don't log anything because I am lazy.
-
@Staked This used to have its own stickied post on the Atlantis forums, but they've been down for a while. You're in luck, though, because a couple months ago I dug up an archive of the relevant thread for someone else with the instructions. Here you go!

@Sparks I have an odd problem I was wondering if you could help with.
The problem is the client crashes suddenly with very little warning. I first experience a heavy amount of hang time within the GUI itself, for seemingly no specific cause. The type box at the bottom gets' jerky' and unresponsive when trying to register things being typed in it, dropdown menus are slow to recognize I'm trying to click them, etc. Then the client hangs... i get a spinning wheel, and it forcefully crashes. It happens roughly every few days.
I am on Sierra - 10.12.2. Thanks.
-
@Ping I'd need to see more of the crash log information, I'm afraid. I'm also on Sierra and haven't had that problem.

So I discovered today...
Events set to a specific character do not work. In this case, it was just a timer made to send '@@' every 1800 seconds. Did not work on the character definition, but did for the world.
Is this expected behavior?

Y'all need a Test Plan.
