@Cobaltasaurus - So far we've done a pear cider and a pear-strawberry cider. The next batch is apple cider I think (all of this hard cider, not just for drinking like juice). We've learned a lot (the huz and I do it together) so far about how long it needs to sit and such. And I think we're going to try a standard honey mead this month or next, and the next batch will be hard apple cider - and then the batch after that will likely start with a roadtrip to Asheville during the apple harvest, to start with really, really fresh juice. Once we bought the stuff that we use to brew, it's a cheap hobby - neither of us drink very much, so what we make takes a few months to go through. But we're having a lot of fun with it, for sure!
I'm thinking about getting into the SCA again, which is something I try every so often - if I do that we'll probably brew more so we have things to share at events!
@Seamus - this is awesome. Culinary school is on my list of "things I'd love to do as idle rich, but don't want to do for a living because exhaustion. Do you work as a chef or baker, or just do it for fun?

I cook. This is because my partner does not / cannot. I can bake as well, but not as proficiently.
Mostly, though, my "things" include working out an awful lot. I just like the rush. Oh, and drinking. And Dragonforce.

I do a lot of crafty-stuff, I grew up with a parent who sewed all of our Halloween costumes and a lot of clothes, etc. So I learned to do that stuff very early. (Quilting, cross stitch, embroidery, basic clothing.) The same with ceramics, my grandmother owned a ceramics shop for her entire life, so I learned to do that stuff early and would attend craft shows with her. For a while I used to make jewelry, dolls, beaded crafts and little scrap book stuff that I would sell at her shows. And I had phases of drawing, photography, graphic art, and woodworking. And I can cook and bake to about the level one would expect from a "farm girl". (And I do know how to kill & butcher a chicken.)
These days the bulk of my craft-time is spent on crafts "for boys", because of my sons and their interests. I still sneak in time for drawing and colored pencils, very infrequently I still cross stitch, and I bake goodies like a crazy person at Christmas.

I was told to go to college. So I got even by going to culinary School. All I wanted was a couple of months off. I did it just for fun basically. I'm in the tech field.
Pay no attention to me. I'm old, jaded and generally unfriendly. I am prone to fits of stupidity, but I am still unique, just like everyone else. ~~ Current President of the Anti-Faraday fan club.

I am going into the tech field, and very occasionally I contemplate changing my major. But I remind myself I am doing the college thing for a job (one I can stand), not for awesome fun.
Crafts, drawing is fun. Making them my living would ruin it for me I think. Except writing. I love it enough I could make tgat my life's work.

Hehe. Well I'm going to school this year to learn how to make video games. Not for a job, at first, but because It's something I want to do.

I sorta started one on old WORA, but kinda grave up. I do knitting, making jams and jellies and baking. I cook, too. I've been kind of dithering on starting a half-fish beanie, since I finished a dice bag and some other small project. I'm indecisive.
And there is a Nyan cat scarf calling my name.

Yeah, I love both versions.
I'm doing the half hat to get used to wrangling the angry porcupine (double pointed needles). I'm using Cascade Sunseeker yarn for it (Deep blue with darkish/anglerfish green sparkles). The patterns are free, unless you want to donate to charity. -

That is really cute. I wish I had the patience to sit and knit or crochet things. My needle is still in the bag, in the package. >.> My cookies are still waiting in the wings, too. While I'm not sure if this is considered 'crafty', I'm obsessed with finding the right shades for contouring makeup. I'm stupidly obsessed.

It's oddly soothing, and focusing. I enjoy it a lot, and I was a bit surprised. I was skeptical at first.
Make up artists are a thing, so I'm pretty sure it's crafty. I like mineral make up even if I don't wear much (boo sensitive skin).

I feel this way about sewing. Or at the very hand sewing. I really need to fix the fubar I did to my sewing machine so I can try it out. >_>

For truth! I don't really wear makeup myself, but that's because it's a mystifying art that I will never master. If I wear make up it's mineral based powder foundation, a little bit of lip gloss, and mascara. If I'm feeling very daring I'll put on eyeliner.
Oh man. I once tried liquid eye liner and got it /in my eye/ rather than on my eye lid. I freaked the fuck out and have never tried to use it again.

Once I left my (very southern) household and got out from my parents' thumb many moons ago I threw out all my makeup and pantyhose and I think I can count on both hands the number of times I've worn makeup in the last 15 years, and on one hand the times I've worn pantyhose in the last 23. (Yes, I'm sure you all really wanted to know that, sorry). I don't know my elbows from my ass in makeup application, and I probably should learn some since I'm like old and shit and could actually probably use it now maybe. I never learned how to do it because I would only do mascara and a little powder and lie to my mother about having my makeup on.
But now I have a 13 year old, who stole all my makeup that had been idling in my bathroom drawer for like 10 years and used it up in 2 months, and who has rolled her eyes at me and insisted on doing my eyeliner and shadow for me so that "it will actually look good." Now all I need is for her to figure out how to use a hot iron for hair (preferably not by experimenting on mine) and I might actually look presentable one of these days.
I admire knitting and crochet a great deal, but every time I've tried to learn them I end up wanting to stab someone (or myself) with the needles and hanging myself with the yarn in frustration so I don't go there anymore. I like naughty cross stitch patterns (https://www.tumblr.com/tagged/subversive-cross-stitch) and I can actually do that stuff without violence. I love to cook. But like crafty stuff that other moms do I mean I'm just a hopeless cause.
So imma just stick to cooking, pottery, and massage.
I just barter for cool shit like scarves and stuff amongst friends. It's amazing what you can trade an hour long massage for!! -

Pottery sounds pretty cool to make. Sadly, my only experience with pottery was in high school. We got to make some and then the kiln malfunctioned, melting everything into a solid mass of goo. The only cool part was some dude's bust melting and looking like a screaming face being pulled into the abyss.

Sadly, it doesn't look like it would convert to magic loop well; I've been alternately stabbing myself in the hands porcupine wrestling and flopping cords all over the desk trying to learn socks. I empathize with the self-stabbing.
...this would be so much easier if my feet were not apparently mutant feet.
(Speaking of which, someone convinced me I have to learn needle felting this year because it's essentially 'creative stabbing'. This sounds bizarre and wonderful.)

I think someone did actually convert it over. I know she mentioned it in her FAQ. I'll poke around.

Also, in lieu of fish hat, I am okay with providing single scans of stuff from my books like the Fairy Tale Knits and 75 sea critters.
