And why, come to think of it, is it necessary for me to hold the button all the time? So much holding it's like Bioware is afraid that if I don't get 'interaction finger' (it's like tennis elbow) that I'll leave and stop loving them. Eesh.

      I think this is console-itis again 😞

There is a play setting to turn many of these into a toggle. Not the 'hold E to interact' which, yeah, is nonsense in any game. (I was in the middle of a mission and for no reason at all it became 'hold Enter' or 'hold F', I can't remember which, and I about spat.) Also the lack of being able to use the scroll wheel to change how close to the character's head also blows. Sure it's a setting, but hey guys, you can add options for keyboard/mouse users that are slower settings for controller users. Hey developers, you can develop for both without sacrificing either.

No, you the main character had 8 buttons in ME1+2+3.

I may be misremembering. Also, I usually plow through with an assault rifle, so.

I've been enjoying ME:A a lot, I've only had one glitch, when I was returning to the Nexus it said that the game had been tampered with and crashed, but then loaded up fine.

Otherwise, it's been a ton of fun, I am enjoying the pacing and the multiplayer a LOT.

Okay it totally weirded me out for the Roekarr to have credits on their body when I looted them. Just gonna say that's a loot table fuckup there. Which is actually odd because that's one thing I've liked so far: there's a ton of loot but it all has made sense. You get fibers or scales or stuff off monsters, the right kind of salvage off the different kinds of guys, etc.

Pppft. On WoW you can throw fireballs underwater and loot polearms from boars.

I was yelling at the screen last night on two occasions.

                  1. I could suddenly understand everyone of an alien race that I couldn't previously understand. This was addressed later, kind of, sort of.

                  2. The game was responding to me flipping some kind of conversation flag that I haven't flipped yet and I have no idea what they're talking about. I think I know, and am going toward the engagement that I believe triggers it, but this isn't the first time I had game-flag issues. The other was when I went to talk to an NPC I've visited before and had to go through the initial discussion with them again. Sigh.

Still enjoying it! (he says, though slightly clenched teeth)

Yeah but this game has been actually good about that which is why it was so jarring!

I had this happen once, though it was minor. I went and this one guy was gonna give me some quests and he was all like, 'you arent ready for the base yet but knock these out and itll make you ready' or something like that, when I had just blown up the base so apparently they didn't think I could possibly do the base mission until I got this guy, but didn't. Oops.

Yeah, that kind of pulled me out of the immersion.

Well for one of them, only one speaks and it has been researching the Milky Way races and maybe they have a similar learning technique as the Protheans? They could've gotten away with that, had they bothered explaining it.

                        But they didn't.

Mind you, the situation that gets you there should have killed pretty much everyone, them included. At the very least it should have been entirely impossible. Did nobody think about speed of light physics? Does nobody care about internal setting consistency? Will nobody think of the children?!

... Incidentally, I want to make a Mu* with this setting. So far nothing about the writing has ruined it, they've just ignored it because what appears to be lazy writing. I find the situation quite compelling. Still having fun.

I've been playing Tom Clancy's Whatever Whatever: Wildlands, free thanks to a new graphics card, and I've discovered a few things:

                          1. I'm tired of this style of open world game, and I've only played a few before it: Dragon Age Inquisition, Fallout 4/3/New Vegas, Mass Effect Andromeda, Witcher 3, Saint's Row 4, Borderlands 2/Pre-Sequel. I get it, guys; you like padding out your play time. It's getting boring. Yes, I know we can blame MMOs for this. Still, nnngh.
                          2. I die at least once per encounter
                          3. This is going to take me FOREVER to finish. There are some, like, 10 areas to clear; the first area took me about 6-8 hours. Half of you were on your third playthru of Andromeda before I was finished with my first.
                          4. Most realistic car physics yet; I find I'm not trying to fling myself off the road in a cheap-as-fuck 4-cylinder car.

You talking shit about Witcher 3 bro? You wanna go?

Also, I think Wildlands is pretty fun! I play with some friends here in Brazil and it is super fun to make stuff happen with friends. I guess co-op games always have this advantage, of being random and MUCH better with friends, but Wildlands does let you approach stuff however you want, so... kudos! The game gives a nice toolbox for you to troll around Not-Mexico Bolivia!

If you think that I didn't almost cry at the ending of W3, you would be wrong. I also think that Borderlands 2 is the world's perfect single-player MMO.

But if you have to create a system with fast-travel, then you're saying that travel is boring after you reach the destination, which implies some negatives to this design decision.

I also forgot Reckoning: Kingdoms of Amalur. The world's most boring single-player MMO, but I finished it and I am not ashamed. As boring as it was, the ending was pretty swank.

Whether you find it boring or not is subjective. In an attempt to be objective, I will say this:

A lot of open-world games have a lot of side quests that don't mean shit to the world. In FF15, for instance, there's a lot of these monster quests which appear to simply be XP and loot grabs. In DA:I, it is mostly the same. And this is boring as shit to me too.

The Witcher 3, however, has side quests that meaningfully break off into a story. In many cases, you have to figure out what the monster is and how to defeat it, meaning it is somewhat less of a gut-and-kill. In other cases, no one really needs to die, and you can finesse your way through. This is not boring to me.

So far in ME:A, the side quests have positive effects on my ability to create a settlement. Granted, I'm in Eos, but I've enjoyed the game so far. Except for going into that gravity well; that bit, as pretty as it was, can bite my ass.

@Thenomain I keep trying to play R:KoA. I get a few hours in, and then I stop. Repeat after 6 months. Again, and again. I can't seem to keep myself playing this one.

Shadow of the Colossus is unplayable a second time around for me.

The first time, the destination during the travel and the (slight) mystery of overcoming certain terrain obstacles to get to each colossus was enough to make it (barely) bearable.

But now a days, I am like 'yeah no, fuck this shit'.

I have been playing Battle Brothers, which is a really, really good game, a kind of turn based strategy implementation of Mount & Blade crossed with X-Com. I think that describes it at least?

I've found that for third person action games I really really enjoy a controller over a mouse+keyboard. FPS I prefer mouse and keyboard because the mouse is more accurate once you dial in your sensitivity settings. However there is a variety of game genres mostly only found on the PC that do not work well with a controller because of the various amounts of commands and shortcuts that come with using the keyboard (mainly RTS/base building style games and isometric perspective games)

I have been eyeing the steam controller too but I can get an xbox controller for about 20 bucks cheaper so that's what I did. I need to get mine repaired though, there is a loose connection in my right trigger that means it kinda wants to work sometimes or it can go days at a time without working.
