@tragedyjones Who else is involved? Anyone we know?

'Cause that's a lot of spheres you got there, man. Who's staffing this puppy?

        @Arkandel

The same usual batch of people who make these cookie-cutter multisphere games with approximately 0 effort put into the setting/theme and then abandon them in a matter of months, I'd assume.

Oh wait, I'm probably not allowed to say that around this crowd.

Good luck and all that, but it feels like we see this song and dance from the same people over and over and they always flake out, without fail, then come back 6 months later to "bask in the attention of being the heroes of MUing" again.

@Tempest At least from my POV the question didn't have negative connotations. I meant it literally... it's good to know who's involved in a project, especially an ambitious one, since it sounds like it's going to involve a lot of work both to design and run it.

@Tempest has every right to be wary, especially given my personal history. Like my sig says, this isn't my third rodeo, I've tried, failed, succeeded and everything in-between in this area.

And I do like the attention, it feels good. Not going to apologize for being human.

That said, on to @Arkandel's actual question. For on-the job staff, I have a handful of volunteers, but I don't believe any of them currently have a MSB account. They all have experience staffing, and staffing with me, from TR to Reno to BITN and the like. My "core team" includes my usual cadre of consultants (@Coin @skew @Thenomain).

Another lesson I have learned in doing this too many times, is you can have a solid core group pre-arranged and shit the bed a lot faster than if you have a solid idea and then add in good people.

I don't know if that is the answer you want, but it is the truth.

            I'm a rodeo clown.

I'm always willing to wiki things, but that's not day to day staffing in any capacity.

              Oh fucking well.

I spent an annoying amount of time looking into just what all might be needed to bump mummy up to 2e. Looks promisingly possible.

Mummy's one of those weird 'transitional' partially-2e compliant, whereas Beast and Demon are 2e complaint by default.

All the rules it uses, iirc, are 1e, though.

Okay guys, wrap it up. There's no point. @Tempest has come to inform us of our flaws and the error of our ways. She and her spotless° record creating, running, hosting, and headstaffing MUs speaks for itself and we should all stop trying because we are the people that, she has made the startingly original observation, have tried and failed before.

Pack it in, let's let someone else try, since as we all know, there is a limit as to how many games can exist and we're just taking up valuable space someone else (like @Tempest!) could be using to generate her own magnificent, original, and most of all enduring, content that will appeal to every single person without regard of their personal preference, due to its implicit perfection.

                      C'est la vie, mes amis.

° Spotless, of course, either due to its inexistence or a subtlety so profound no one ever fucking noticed.

Oh, @Coin had a hissyfit. Surprising no one that he reacts like a 5 year old to criticism.

The problem isn't trying and failing, the problem is the sad way you beg the world for attention while doing so and act like you're doing us all a favor by building another MU with 0 plot or theme or story. You're actually hurting the hobby with your trash by lowering the standards.

Except it's not a hissyfit. It's a sarcasm-laden reply to your whining about people doing things you don't like while you sit contributing absolutely nothing to the hobby except your enviably forgettable (unless you're being ridiculously spiteful to an impressive degree) presence.

Maybe if you whined less and critiqued more with an eye towards improvement, or at least did something yourself to contribute, it'd be a different matter. But you don't, and you don't, so it ain't.

P.S. re: attention, 1) I learned about this project yesterday and am tangentially willing to help, but had no idea @tragedyjones was going to post about it here and 2) please stop with the hypocrisy, as if your rants here are anything other than you screaming 'look at me, look at me, I can contribute by being an asshole too!'

@surreality When the people involved are going to put in 0 work beyond copy/pasting code from another game, why would they?

This is going to be Reno 5.0, but set in Vegas, you know, like Fear and Loathing.

The one thing TJ does great is rally the people required to get a "new game" out and rolling.

However, TJ, Coin, and the other "usual suspects" have proven completely incapable or unwilling to actually put any effort into these games beyond "hey, so this is a MU, I guess, and it's WoD-flavored. Go, like, do sandbox stuff, I guess. Okay it's been a month, half of us are quitting staff and/or shutting down the game."

No offense to the game makers but I don't see a game set in Las Vegas taking off. I think as a community we're probably as tired of Nevada as we are of Maine.

Hopefully I'm wrong. I like being wrong about such things.

When and where did I say it was easy?

So, do you guys really not have anything besides "well I don't see YOU making the perfect MU, so be quiet!!!!!!"

If anybody here is actually worried about "doing the hobby a favor" or some shit, since you want to act like you guys are the heroes of MUing for producing these Happy Meal-quality games, why don't you spend a week or two working on an actual storyline for the game?

If this is just going to be another "wow sandbox copy/paste of Reno in a new city" a-la Eldritch, it's probably going to last about equally as long.

I have no personal issue with TJ, I've played with him, he's a fun guy. This thing with making MUs has gotten a little weird though. TJ, Coin, and the people usually involved in these projects have repeatedly proven they aren't going to put in the effort to keep a game going once it loses the 'shiny and new' tag, or to give the game any story in the first place.

To be honest, I feel like I have to equate this to some kind of addiction where you guys just want the "rush" of being the ones to make a "new" game, to be there lording it over the MUing peons "YES, I MADE THIS!", and then 2 months later, you hand it off to whoever is handy when the 'new car smell' and hawt sexxorz from the supermodels that come with it has worn off.

...Then you come back 6 months later, in some cases, and make jokes about forcibly stealing the game away from the people currently running it, you know, in some cases.

So, aside from our customary back-and-forths, a couple of questions for @tragedyjones :

                                          1. What are you thinking to do different this time than your last project(s)? That is, what's cool about this project?

                                          2. Is this going to be a sandbox environment or are you thinking to focus on narrating a longer arc (or arcs) of metaplot?

There are people working on alternatives. Whether they are brilliant or not is up to you.

Whether I particularly like her or not, @Tempest has a point in that it would be preferable to have something other than another sandbox pop up.

Unlike @Tempest, I don't consider @tragedyjones as a repeat offender. I'm pretty sure I played on all of his games, and each were different. That said, it is true that he tends to desert his projects once they are up and running, and whether the new controllers are able to continue to press momentum is the ultimate question.
