Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
-
So I've been playing for less than a week now, after not really being in a game since the end of Firan. For what it's worth, here are some opinions:
- I like the theme. It's interesting and I think staff has done a good job of making it difficult to create or take a character that is going to be widely despised with no reason to RP with anyone else;
- I like the players I've met. Almost implausibly friendly and engaging, who have never once been unwilling to answer any and all inane questions I might have;
- The character I took (Marius, for those who care) lacked any relationship information. This has led to me feeling uncertain when trying to figure out how I should interact with someone for the first time. There were no notes about how he felt about his family members, either. That was disappointing, but at least as it relates to the family, some OOC conversation has helped straighten that out;
- Difficult to get caught up on lore stuff. The website lacks a lot of important information and so I've had to rely on what other players can tell me. This is also a challenge since I don't know what Marius would ICly know, and I don't want to be one of those people who assumes his character knows everything all the other characters in his sphere knows;
- I love a few of the features like directions and +tasks and @randomscene. Those are smart and, so far, really easy ways for me to get around and get involved. Because I'm new, people are given XP for RPing with me, which has led to 2 or 3 strangers paging me and asking for a scene. That's a warm welcome.
So, overall, I'm excited to play the game. I think it's been done very well thus far, and even my complaints are simply rectified, if the staff has in mind to do so.

This has been pretty consistently a problem that I have seen since even I joined. There are things that I actually do think my character would know, that you'd have to spend a lot of time exploring the grid or asking questions about. I wish we had a more concise way to know with a trust to people to not assume whether it makes sense for their character to know. (I play a level 5 intellect character with tons of varied learning written justifiable I think into her background. It's harder to play when someone mentions a really common history thing and you are like ??? yeah that sure happened.)
I think people have made strides to helping this as players and as staff. With the player wiki being an unofficial thing and the theme board being an official. I hope I see the theme board used more now that we have it.
-
I also think @theories make information sharing wiiiiildly easier and more sensible, btw, too.
-
I think staff is working on the lore issue. There are new news files for Occult and Theology, for example, which you can access based on what level you have in that skill that tell you what you should know. They're still In Progress, but it's a great idea, and I think it will help as those sorts of things get fleshed out.

Wtf are resdays?
Is it like Mondays? They can't be as bad as Mondays.
From everything I have heard as someone who never played Firan as a player Res Days were far worse then Mondays.
-
Resdays were when you discovered who was a new player to the game because they would submit an action they wanted to take, thinking they finally got a chance to be a part of the plot, only to discover their character getting killed in interested ways.
-
@dontpanda Brother!
-
Way to suck me into the game guys. Way to go!

So probably sometime in the next week or two, characters will be added to the roster that belong to one of the counties underneath my character's March. I have an inkling of the personalities involved, so if you might be interested, hit me up and we can chat.

I can confirm that all of these characters are super awesome.

I chose a character off the roster, I'm unsure if they've been previously played as they had no relationships or journals but I am so impressed how they give you a starting point for character direction.
Unfortunately the learning curve is steep as fuck anyway so far everyone's been extremely helpful.
-
@Shincashay Who'd you pick? I feel they're flying off the roster as soon as they're made.
-
@lordbelh Perrach.
-
@Shincashay Yessssssss salty knight. I don't think anyone has picked him up previously, no.
-
@Shincashay @Roz I'm pretty sure you're the first tho be playing him, yeah. If not, whoever held him only picked him up and then left him idle.
I'm looking forward to seeing you on the character, though!
-
-
@Shincashay Aha. I totally wanted to meet him on my happy-go-lucky bit.
-
You're definitely the first Perrach. I was super excited to see him come off. The timing is especially great with the Thrax succession stuff, I feel like. Lots of meat to play with!

Since they're officially on the roster, here's the info on House Riven:
Huge, HUGE shout out to @saosmash for writing these and working with me to come up with the premise of House Riven!
