Are they going to make it into a playable RPG where levels and stuff matter, or are they going to leave it as a festering pile?
I hope they leave it just the way it is because the faux-fan-rage is always amusing to me.

@Roz Squaw was the worst protagonist of the series. He makes Tidus (Played brilliantly by Meg Ryan, by the way) look awesome.
Even so, it has Triple Triad and that was fun. I mean it completely derailed me finishing the game so that has to count for something.

I could Lionheart for eternity.

Going from the glory of Triple Triad in VIII to dumb stupid Tetra Master in IX made me want to throw myself into the sea.

FF8 is maybe my least favorite of the series but I could play Triple Triad for days and days on end.

Final Fantasy storylines, are in general, horrible. I'd say FF10 had the least idiotic/offensive storyline, while FF6(or 3 depending who you are)is arguably the best.
FF8's story is an indictment of it's time. Overwrough emo drivel that lacked it's own self-awareness of just how bad it really was. So far as non-sensical Final Fantasy storylines go, FF8 is right up there with FF13 and the inanity that has anything to do with Lightning.
That said, Triple Triad was pretty damn good.

Triple Triad is one of the best things about FFXIV, too. I spent waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much time at the casino lol.

Yes, but also...

I did love me some blitzball.
-
@Auspice I was a blitzball pro
-
I think I had more hours playing Blitzball than I did playing the rest of the game.

I definitely did.

I have a friend who plays FFXIV where I swear literally 90% of what he does is wander around the world challenging NPCs to Triple Triad games and trying to collect rare cards, and then head back to the Manderville Gold Saucer to challenge other players to Triple Triad games.

I'm sorry, arguably? No. FF6 is factually and objectively the best.
Joking aside...
- It has some of the best music; Terra's Theme remains my favorite FF theme and leitmotif out of all the games. For all that the orchestral versions are amazing, the original version was an absolutely freaking unbelievable song for the hardware it was running on. It is still the most iconic piece of FF music for me. (Though I will admit FFXIV's Sultana Dreaming—the night music for Ul'dah—is a very close second for my favorite.)
- It has some of the best lines of any FF game. Both funny and poignant. And the dramatic/climactic Patrick Stewart Speech about 'there is good in the world and in people, it's all worth saving' being met with "Bleh! You make me sick! You sound like chapters from a self-help book!" is probably one of my favorite villain responses of all time.
- It does something I don't think I've seen any other RPG do, at least none I can think of offhand: ***Major story spoilers***click to show
If they are going to be doing remakes on the apparent quality level of that FF7 remake they finally showed off at E3? Give me one of FF6.

@Sparks FF6 was supposed to end at that one part, but the team was so far ahead of their original deadline, they decided to just.
Write and code more content to go on after it.

Double Post, but the MEGA CONTROVERTIAL Pokémon announcement wounds me, and now I want that Pokémon MU to be a thing even more.
Woe.

While I am going to be very sad if I cannot bring my favorite buddies I have amassed over into Sword and Shield, I'm actually not surprised by this.
By, say, Sun and Moon, all they had to do was add models/animation/sprites/sound for the new Alolan Pokedex, because they already had all the 3D models/animations/sprites/sounds. Sword and Shield, they probably wanted to make higher detail models/animations, and I'm betting that redoing every single Pokémon from all previous generations would have quickly caused madness and weeping if they also tried to stay on deadline. Under that logic, I was sort of prepared to be a bit impressed if they had gotten all 807 National Pokedex entries redone.
And in fact, that's the justification given in interviews; they just didn't have the time to get through all of them, so the ones you can't transfer in are the ones where there just aren't assets in the game for those Pokemon, period; it allowed them to focus on the ones they knew had to be in the game. And based on the Alolan Pokedex (302 entries in Sun/Moon, 403 in Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon), I fully expect us to get at least a sizeable chunk of the National Pokedex in the Galar Pokedex.
I'm disappointed, yes, but not surprised.

That's pretty much what happened to me. I got FF8 when it released and then discovered Triple Triad was awesome. The rest of the game, pssh what's that? I have Triple Triad to play.

I concur, and write separately.
The score for FF6 is an incredible achievement, with themes for every playable character. It is probably the best console game of all time, and probably my favorite one until The Last of Us. But it is the music that really sets it apart.
Celes' operatic theme is an actual vocal piece. You have metal versions of the final battle, like this one or this one done by the composer's own cover band. And the composer, Nobuo Uematsu, is so beloved that his music has hit the textbooks of Japanese students as examples of music composition.
FF6 has already technically been re-mastered, and that version is available on tablets. It's well-worth the money.
But this is the epitome of the Final Fantasy series for me. I really like Final Fantasy VIII, which I think was beyond its time when it was released, but it can't compare. Then again, the end sequence for the game is its own little masterpiece, given that it was made for the PS1. For me, it was poetry, and effectively -- and without words -- ties the entire game together.
There's a million different interpretations of FF8's ending. And I have talked to dozens of people about it, and each has their own understanding. I think that is critically important, as the game really is about things like thought, memory, and the connections we have with others across time and space. That damned song Eyes on Me (sung by Faye Wong) is such an earworm that my eyes tear up to this day when I hear it. The convoluted plot aside, the graphics and cinematography are way, way advanced for its time (1999).
(Edit to add: I saw the reveal trailer, and was mildly disappointed that SquareEnix is going to essentially clean up the graphics only. Updating the models further would have been nice.)

FF8 will always win, solely for the super adorbs Eyes On Me spaceship scene.
If you disagree, you have no heart.
