You made me frown.
This sucks. Was planning to set time aside for Cpunk and ff7, too. Ugh. I get wanting to have a finished product but it's like they're dangling it

you know the development cycle man.
'We're good to go on the 10th.'
'Oh wait, shit, we had a red light situation. Push that back to the 20th.'
'So we fixed that issue but the leadership wants us to add this feature so make it the 10th of next month.'
and so on.I'd like the games sooner, but having been in IT as long as I have: I'm not remotely surprised. It is, unfortunately, a drawback of Agile development structures.
(There's a flowchart somewhere that details the pros/cons of different styles and that's sort of the big one with Agile.)
-
@Auspice Yeah, no I get it, I do. I fully understand QA cycles, target goals, etc. I would rather have a finished game later than a buggy one now.
Just feels like:
-
TLOU2 got delayed as well. I am wondering if everyone is trying to get a bit of extra shine with some of the new console talk coming out so that they can platform to those when they go on sale.
-
They're remaking Gothic 1!
And they've fucking AAA-ed it out the wazoo - starting the intro off with Michael Bay-splosions, so the ADD-afflicted players don't get bored in the first two minutes; limiting your exploration, because CoD-railroads are all we do now; making the main character insufferably annoying in personality (Worst. Writing. Ever!); having everyone treat the main character like he's the chosen one, because gods forbid we start the hero's journey at the beginning instead of at the point where people want to fellate you just for being the awesome you; and making the main character able to go toe-to-toe with creatures that were mid-game challenge and would one shot you at the start of the game in the original, because challenging games are apparently not a thing (cough Dark Souls cough). It's like none of the current devs have actually played the original where everyone treats you like a piece of shit nobody in a penal colony, because you are a piece of shit nobody in a penal colony, until you level up and have ingratiated yourself into the factions. This game was a fucking masterpiece that was overshadowed by Morrowind and NWN when it came out, and they're trying to make it a Witcher 3 clone.
EDIT - For anyone who has never played or even heard of this game (likely as it is a cult classic), here is an excellent review by my favorite Youtuber: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvpnl24kFxs

so the ADD-afflicted players
i mean i appreciate when i don't miss out on a good game cuz adhd

Sorry. It wasn't meant as a slam against people with ADD and ADHD. It was more meant as a slam against developers who think that all players can't pay attention for more than five minutes without explosions or boobs in their face.
EDIT - "without" not "with"

I understand. It just...felt a bit like one in the rant. But thank you for clarifying.

This is the one that hurts me the most. FF7 was the most glorious part of my gaming childhood.
ETA: That Binocs thing up there? That's me with TLOU2.
-
I still want my sequel to Clive Barker's Jericho.
-
@Ominous
I have all three Gothic games and thought they were really good, though with varying overall quality. I definitely agree that you'd lose a lot of the game's flavor if you modeled it too much after Witcher 3 or Skyrim, or the like. -

Probably. Or they are taking a cue from TLOU by pushing it to the limit of the existing system, and then creating a remastered version for the new one.
Because, yes, I have both the PS3 and PS4 aversions.
Also, fuck you EA for not remastering the Mass Effect series.
-
@Ganymede Mass Effect is dead and buried, despite whatever Casey Hudson does to piss on the ashes.
At this point I dont even want another game, and i even liked Andromeda. For what it was at least.
-
They have made eleventy billion Final Fantasy games and they canβt be bothered to keep Mass Effect alive?
Balls.

I have been replaying TLOU and Days Gone. Days Gone is also fun. It doesn't have as great a story as TLOU but the sheer panic induced when you're just minding your own business and out of nowhere, a horde appears... worth it.

Balls.Yeah. But. Did you see what they gave us last time? We were promised Versus. And we got 15. (A game so sub-par for a final fantasy main series game that they had to completely gut and redo the ending, and it was still balls.)

I really liked FF15

I played it. Multiple times. I don't hate it enough to not play it. I even waited patiently for the DLC. But I have major complaints. Kind of hated how unpredictable warping in combat could be, and how hard it was to lock on to certain things. Hated even more that the story is told in such a disjointed way that anything after that spoilery thing on the train is just one massive jumble. Even if you pick up all of the in-game lore (which I usually do because I am a total completionist), I hate that they set it up so that you have to buy DLC just to learn how the goddamn main story goes without all the massive holes in things.
Points for giving me Prompto though, who I assert is gay and has a crush on Noctis and fucking fite me.
ETA: Also, serious question -- I have not played Episode Ardyn. I very much want to know his story. Is this worth my money?
ETA2: I should have said I want to know more about him than what I already know from the in-game lore, so -- is the DLC worth it on its own?

That's fair.
I liked it a lot, actually. It was very enjoyable to ease into. You can just roam around in the car for a few hours.

I could listen to that Florence + The Machine cover of "Stand By Me" forever. Didnt know about that until FFXV

I liked the banter. The graphics were cool.
I disliked the new combat system. I only liked the first half or so of the main storyline.
It's a mixed bag. I was disappointed in it for a Final Fantasy title. A general fantasy title? Sure.
