I would say Valkyria Chronicles 4. Origins is likely to probably be on sale a little bit around Christmas if you can wait.
I probably should have said "Odyssey," but I'll take everyone's points to heart.
I like VC and its sequels, but Japanese games have the sort of story and dialogue that sets my teeth on edge.

@ganymede play valkyria chronicles 4 and just look out for any opportunities to assassinate someone in that game

I assassinate people whenever I get the chance.
I dunno. It's still a Japanese game. I liked Persona 5, but the horrible dialogue set my teeth on edge.

@ganymede Yeah I really can't handle Japanese RPGs. They were ok when I was 19, but now the only thing I get from them is moments of LOL WTF. The last couple I finished, I couldn't have told you what the 'story' was to save my life. Something something teenagers and crazy hair and memories. The end.

The last one I plowed through was Final Fantasy XV, and it was pretty good. But I hated the catch-breath response to every fucking things, yeesh. It's like all the Japanese people in world are constantly surprised in the silliest way.

@ganymede Nani??

I played Steins:Gate and it wrecked me in the good way so I can clearly still play Japanese games. >.>

@ganymede Yeah I knew which you meant. My point still applies about Christmas though!

But my partner is going away this weekend.
And Odyssey comes very highly rated.
I have a super big motherfucking problem, bitches, why y'all dancing?
-
@ganymede Go for Odyssey!

I don't much play JRPGs anymore, but I have a certain fondness for the Yakuza series. Just because they're both equally off-the-wall zany and ridiculous while also being well-written and serious when it wants to be.
I say that as a precursor to the fact that I picked up Fight of the North Star: Lost Paradise. It's more or less Yakuza with a Fist of the North Star skin pulled over it. If I didn't think that Yakuza could get better, there's something about the 80s anime apocalypse veneer that takes silliness to a certain new height that I cannot help but appreciate.
This game may go under the radar of a lot of people, but I'm advising if you enjoy a game that can take it seriously while at same time not at all, you may get a kick out of it like I have.
If you give me a game where Kenshiro mixes drinks with the same intensity that he explodes bandit's heads, this is a game I cannot help but love.

Me: Hey, Steam, list all your specials by User Reviews.
Steam: Done.
Me: What's #1?
Steam: It says here "Deep Space Waifu Collection".
Me: ... There is no god.

DID YOU KNOW: Tabletop games are awesome? Well mostly awesome. But some of the most awesome have been turned into computer interfaces.
Humble Store is having a sale on them. A lot of them. A metric fuckton.
Here's the link. Hell even Tabletop Simulator is worth the price of admission if you play even one game for less than the $80 they go for in print.
And if you buy a game, you throw a few pennies to the voiceless Moiren, because it's often good to support one of our own, right?

Screw you, man. I've watched that Stranger Things documentary, I know what's up.

Man, I loved board games as a kid. One I wish they'd make a digital version of is the old Dungeon board game TSR put out in the late 70s or early 80s. Took a bit to set it up but man, I loved playing that game with my dad. WotC put out a newer version under a different name, iirc. Have to wonder if they kept things close to the same or if they changed it.

Is anyone going to be playing Fallout 76 on the Xbox besides me?

I won't.
I use the PS4.
Because of The Last of Us 2.
That, and it's just better.
