General Video Game Thread

@sg That might actually be an interesting kind of challenge run. Which game would you do it with? I think Dragonfall would be the hardest.
-
@jaded HK might be the easiest, Gunshow gets a shock baton and flashbangs as normal gear. With a hasted adept you could probably do it in most missions. I don't know if any of the paid runners have knock out gear or if you'd have to just run interference with them.
-
@sg It might be easier if your companions that you took were mostly mages. You might be able to use more supportive/healing magic since you will probably take a lot of damage charging in to melee.
-
@jaded The problem here is that stun spells and stuff like that in the SR games by HB just do AP damage iirc, they don't actually disable anyone.
-
@lithium Yeah I know. That is why I was not highlighting the stun spells. But more the personal buff spells and healing that can be had. On the other hand, taking AP away from the enemy does mean less shooting so that would still be helpful if @SG wants to run a build where he rushes them and beats them with a stunbaton.

Can't recall where the free games thread is, but Humble Bundle has Civ 3 for free for the next 36 hours or so
-
@lithium It's Cheap or Free Games in Tastes Less Gamey, and it has the pink bunny from Silent Hill 3. (Saw a post here, but not the post, postedthe same, but with a link. >.>)

When I first learned of this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=162&v=0OUr2CbzNu8
I was like, noooo whyyyyyyyy?!?!?!?!!
Then I actually watched it, and am... cautiously optimistic.
-
@lithium BTW, not that it's hard to hit refresh or anything, but your video starts at 2:42 / 2:43.
-
@lithium
I've been keeping an eye on this and there seems to be a lot of love and heart going into it with a desire to make this good.Stardock is a good company to get behind on something like this.
-
@jaded Yeah I've had no problems with Stardock personally but some of their decisions can be iffy on some of their games but they look to be capturing the feel of StarCon 2 really well.

Did anybody play that Southpark game yet?
Haven't watched the show in yeeeaaars, but it's mildly tempting to pick it up. I have fond memories.
-
@tempest Been watching people play it on Twitch TV, been hilarious.
-
OMG the skin color selection is displayed as a difficulty slider. So the darker the character's skin is, the higher the difficulty.
LOL: "This wont affect combat, but pretty much every other aspect of your whole life."
-
@ghost That is great.
-
Yeah, it basically effects how people treat you, how much money you make. Except Rednecks: They will attack you no matter what you choose for gender and sexuality (at least they still tried to beat me up as a white cis female) because Rednecks.
The only thing that has disturbed me about the game has been viewers reactions to things, rather than the game content itself. (I was laughing my ass off when, as a fourth grader I was giving a lapdance, but I mostly ended up farting on him because South Park). So anyway, you have to go collect Yaoi of two of the characters and I had a viewer well she... she's 26, but for the longest time we thought she was maybe 14 who thinks the pics are absolutely hot and demanded I get them all and look at them. Of fourth graders. Who are drawn to look like they are teenagers because even if South Park will have a fourth grader do a lap dance, and draw cartoon Cartman dicks and fucking, they won't go so far to draw children in sexual positions. And it creeped me out.
I since warned her she would be banned for something else and she hasn't been back, but I still have catch myself and actually let the viewers see the pictures now, rather than grab them so quick nothing pops up because they don't know what I'm collecting.
Aside from her, the game has been a blast so far. Combat is simplified from SoT. My super hero backstory is lame, but Cartman wrote it, so what else can you expect? My only complaint is the "lava" placed around the town that I can't get past, making you have to walk around a lot, even with the fast travel system.
Word of warning, if you are like me and hit everyone because you can? Don't hit Morgan Freeman until you are done with the main storyline. Also, you have to hit him 3 times. Just don't do it when you first meet him.

I was very pleased with the Longwar 2 mod for Xcom 2 until I believed the mission report that said 'extremely light resistence.'
I'm like, cool! I can send a 4 trooper squad and they can ambush a patrol and hack a computer. BAM!
So, I go into the mission, and I sneak towards the computer I have to hack. Oof, there's a patrol. Sneak away. Eeek, another patrol. Sneak away. Get to the computer, it's guarded by three grenade launcher guys, who see me, and alert the other 5 guys in the front yard.
WTF, I can't wait to see the mild resistence maps.
-
@sg
The mod determines its levels of difficulty differently than the base game. Light resistance does not mean less enemies to fight. It means less difficult enemies to fight.So you will still encounter 12-15 enemies split up in 3-4 pods but instead of some of them having Berserker Mutons they might have regular Mutons instead. Snakes will turn into Sectoids or the Flank Snakes and the Advent Commanders and Sergeants will be replaced with lesser quality troopers like scouts and sentries. But be wary of rainbow pods those are a possibility too - a rainbow pod being a pod of 8 and has 1 of every type of trooper that is available in the Long War 2 mod.
-
@jaded yeesh, what did I get myself into?
-
I forgot to add that your in game date also gates some of the harder aliens. They will not show up until after specific benchmarks. And you have to keep an eye on your zones. Those zones with Advent security ratings 4+ also default to higher grade troopers, the Mk IIs. So be prepared for that.
