I started Return of the Obra Dinn which is SO UNIQUE and INTERESTING, it's by the guy who made Papers Please which is similarly unique and fascinating, but I couldn't even make it an hour before getting too motion sick. I am REALLY BUMMED and might give it one more shot after playing with some settings because even just that one hour was fascinating. It's weird because motion sickness is not usually a problem I have with video games!!

I am excited for people who own the console that it will release for. It looks like a great game.

If you can get over the frothing at the mouth about the absurd grind to unlock cosmetics, Mortal Kombat is pretty amazing. The story mode is nothing amazing, but it's definitely as entertaining as any cheesy action movie, if not more so. I spent probably 5-6 hours in it and I'm only a little past half way, I think, and I was at least entertained the whole way so far, and really enjoyed a few parts. Which is pretty rare for a fighting game, generally.

This game has somehow made me like Johnny Cage when I always thought he was annoying douche before.

Ignoring the grind for cosmetics, you can, from my foray into things, get at least 1 good skin for your preferred characters that is distinctly different from their base skins (which good god was super important for Kitana and Skarlet), from things like....You get 'normal human' Kitana in story mode. You get a NOT Tusken Raider Skarlet from her tutorial. Etc.

The graphics and mechanics and just...general 'fun level' of playing put Soul Calibur and DoA to shame, I think. Can't comment on Street Fighter or Tekken, haven't played their recent editions.

The Tower of Time bits are a little absurd. Fighting in a whole tower of characters who have 2x your hp, or have a MvC-esque 'buddy pop-in assist' firing off a special attack every 3 seconds is just not fun. Buuut, if you really want a tower of time reward or something, you can set your character to AI, and I can personally attest that, with the right AI loadout (IE you can set them to favor grapples/combos/zoning/etc), apparently an AI-controlled character has no problem beating ass through those difficulties. Because I am currently doing that while watching youtube.

ETA : From everything I've heard though, I wouldn't get it unless you're getting it on the PS4.

So a European game retailer might have leaked that The Last of Us 2 will be out on September 27th.

No confirmation but it is an interesting tidbit for those waiting for the game.

It may be this year's Horizon Zero Dawn.

I might pick up Wombat Kombat for shits and giggles, but I vastly prefer Marvel vs. Capcom and its ilk.

@Ganymede If it helps, the gimmick characters for MK11 are Spawn, Joker, Terminator, and Ash Williams (Evil Dead).

Days Gone is literally Last of Us : The Open World Motorcyclening.

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. YMMV.

So many of the mechanics/etc feel the exact same as LoU.

The story is certainly worse (so far, anyways), in exchange for the open world stuff.

The comparison to The Last of Us is pretty common among my friends who are playing it. Even had one say that it felt like TLOU: Daryl Dixon edition.

I really wish they'd done 'more' with the whole...survival/resources bit? Like, gotta go raid a military base to get stuff to make a kevlar vest. Gotta go hit some factory to get gunpowder so you can buy bullets at the base. That kind of stuff? Also, no 'city' environment so far feels kinda lame. I'm guessing the map transitions at some point in the story to another 'open world' area, because this first map doesn't seem terribly big. So maybe I'll get my city later.

Instead, the resource mechanic is just...literally the exact same stuff as LoU. Like...seriously, they just copy/pasted the inventory system from there.

Honestly? Pretty disappointing. The game isn't bad by any means, but it really could've been so much more.

I really want a like...go on a trip to the abandoned, infested grocery store to try and get some canned goods for the camp kind of zombie shit.

Comparing The Last of Us and Days Gone story-wise sounds like comparing The Dark Knight to just about any other DCEU movie to date.

That said, though, I think I might enjoy the open world, and am willing to sacrifice the story for it. Is the story of Days Gone comparable to Horizon Zero Dawn? The latter was also open world, but the story was very enjoyable.

I'm having trouble answering this. HZD's story to me, was kind of bland. BUT, the world and everything was wholly original and unique (afaik) and that alone kind of made everything more interesting. Playing Aloy as a kid and the running of the trials scene were also 2 things that I think really helped hook you in. (I never beat HZD for the record.)

Days Gone has yet, for me anyways, to have anything that really 'hits' you, story-wise. And on top of that lacking, it's...just another "zombie" thing? Admittedly I'm only 6 hours in or so.

I think the 'just another zombie thing' is really hurting it for me, in terms of the story. Though there is still plenty of time for them to turn it around with a fun twist or something soon. I'm still at the 'having fun with the gameplay' stage.

So far the story is not comparable to HZD, it really has no strong hooks.

Zombie-wise, anyone pick up World War Z? I hear it's the new Left4Dead, and since fuckin Valve is dodging the zombie cash cow and not releasing L4D3...I've been reading reviews and considering.

Delete the Hog Pit. It'll be fun.

I haven't bought it yet, but I know people who have.

The main complaints are: getting into multi-player with people is kind of a pain.
You can't change class during multi-player without fully backing out and going into a match again, which is a pain when playing with people.

But that's all pvp complaints. Like the actual missions look to be really smooth and the team is so far on the ball with fixing things as they come up.

Plus oh man the zombie hordes and the way they just fucking flood in. I wanna play so bad.

Saying the quiet parts out loud since 1996.

@Ghost A friend of mine Twitch streamed his first run of WWZ. It was niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. A little L4D, a little Vermintide, a LOT of fun.

                                            City of Heroes Update:

There's still a few stability issues (there was a a server-wide fall through the floor bug), but the game is getting more stable each day. A second shard/server has been added; Excelsior.

Right now, every mission Blue-side and Red-side are working, as well as Architect missions. Auction House is still a bit wonky.

Development on a 'Server in a Box' download for torrenting is still proceeding, so people that are inclined will be able to host their own servers.

Talks with NCSoft about CoH becoming a 'community owned/developed' property are continuing.
