I picked up The Witcher: Enhanced Edition or whatever. I definitely understand what people were talking about with the combat, it's clunky and relies heavily on timing. I've not really had any issues with it myself, but I definitely understand where folks could have experienced some.

I also found out why you don't kill town guards, even if it's due to a misunderstanding... I was trying to TALK to the traveling merchant outside your gates, not smoke him in the gourd with a sword! Took down the four guards, only for a Super Mega Faceplosion Doombringer DeathGuard to track me down later, looking to collect a bounty. That was a fun, interesting, two-hit fight!

I've also been having fun pestering Mrs. Faceless by carrying on conversations with her in Geralt Voice, while staring at her. Because I don't think that I've noticed my character blinking at all. Does he blink at all in later installments of the series?

I also think I may be playing this game wrong. I've not sexed anything up yet; male, female, beast, or extra-dimensional entity.

Overall it's a pretty fun and interesting world so far though.

The clunkiness is nothing compared to some of the clunkiness of Horizon Zero Dawn, but you have to love that game for just about everything else.

I haven't given that one a whirl yet. It looks nice, the aesthetics of the creatures has just never reached out to me, unfortunately.

@faceless My whole thing with Horizon Zero Dawn is... If all the animals are robots... What do they eat?

@lithium The story explains what/why they eat. They process 'biofuel' from the environment, basically converting organic matter. The reasons why are spoilers, though.

I suppose it's not for everyone, but taking down a massive robot dinosaur armed with machineguns and lasers is ... well, it is what it is.

Okay, I've clearly not watched the right game trailers. That sounds pretty damn awesome.

It's right up there with Last of Us for why I want a PS4.

Look, I get what you're saying. I do.

Shooting arrows at robots? That's cool.

Shooting arrows at robot deer and steer? That's also cool.

Shooting arrows that hog-tie robot panthers to the ground? That's nifty cool.

Shooting flaming arrows at giant robot saber-toothed cats? That's really cool.

Shooting exploding sonic arrows at giant robot coelecanth-like monsters that burrow through the ground, leap out at you, and occasionally belch out streams of rock at you while you're riding on the back of a robot water buffalo in a suit of force-field armor?

                          That's priceless.

                            Clearly not robots.

Not all the animals are robots.

                                It's in the story.

                                And the robots eat animals.

Yeah Horizon Zero Dawn is a pretty great game. I got the platinum trophy and then went and 100%'d the DLC which was also pretty great. One of the best games I played on PS4 last year, though Assassins Creed Origins was my overall GotY. Ubisoft worked some fucking magic putting in Egypt like that. Shit was amazing.

@ganymede Cool! I have wanted to play the game, but A) I don't do FPS with a frikken /controller/ and B) Money was tight last year.

I haven't looked to see if there's a PC port or not though. If there is, I will eventually play it.

ETA: I was honestly curious as to what they ate, since I only ever saw robots.

@lithium Guerilla, the studio behind the game is wholly owned by Sony, so the chances of a PC port are pretty much nil. 😞

But you can always buy a mouse and controller for the PS4 too.

As Rucket has said, the chances of this are slim to none.

HZD isn't really an FPS; it's an action-based 3PS that is built for a PS4 controller. And it is really built for the PS4. Really.

I have encouraged many, many people to strongly consider picking up a PS4. Many of the major console makers are plunging billions of dollars into making exclusive games because this has been a successful strategy. If you want to play Zelda, you're going to need a Nintendo system; if you want to play The Last of Us, you're going to need a PS system. And so on.

I love strategy games on my PC, but my PS4 gets the lion's share of my time, now. It's a suburban machine, and perfectly capable of handling all sorts of different family needs: games, TV (PS Vue), exercise (apps, like Dailyburn, which I use), movies (streaming services), and so on. My family can literally camp out in my basement with the PS4 as the hive.

Anyhow, that's my spiel on why people should strongly consider getting a gaming console.

@ganymede I already own a PS4, I am just no good at using the controller for those type of games. It ends up being frustrating and not fun.

The nitpicking over first or third person is beside the point, the point is I fucking /hate/ the thumb analog sticks on /any/ controller. I prefer keyboard and mouse for controlling any sort of action game where reflexes matter.

Case in point, I died, so much, playing Rise of the Tomb Raider just for missing the timing on things, it would have been /so much worse/ if I had been trying to do so on a controller.

I played Dead Space and Dead Space 2 on the PS3, when it was ported to the PC, so much more fun for me.

So, all of this means is it's simply not going to be a good game for me, no matter how pretty or intriguing the concept is.
