Speaking of 'stupid shit that bodies do:'
I yawned and pulled a muscle in my neck earlier.
That's just not fair. -
That's so fucked up. I'm sorry.
-
@auspice I have done similar, shrugging my shoulder and stretching and then pulling a muscle int he back of my neck that was sore for a week.

It's like 'these are parts of natural movement, they should not cause injury.'
I see a heating pad in my future tonight when I get home.

@auspice I split my lip sneezing last week. I still have a tiny scab because I also have a terrible habit of licking my lips when I'm nervous or concentrating.

And in the winter, too!
(I'm squirming at work rn counting down the minutes until I can flee to my car with the chapstick XD) -
@auspice The worst part is I even HAVE chapstick AND use it. I just... end up licking my lips without thinking!

What's worse is when you don't have chapstick or vaseline or anything and they're so broken and chapped and you just... can't... stop... yourself... (This is why I have chapstick in my car... on my desk... in most of my jacket pockets...)

This might seem gross, but the only thing that has worked super well on winter split/chapped lips/skin for me (and my kids) is lansinoh. You find it in the baby care section. Basically it is lanolin (dont use if you are allergic to wool). It is a lot cheaper than lip balm but it is a awesome moisture seal and barrier. No scent. It was the only thing that cleared up the horrible weeping rash that one of my kiddos used to get from licking his chapped lips in the winter. I use it as a barrier to keep my hands from getting g chapped when it is cold and dry and I am handling lots of thin handled but heavy bags for work.
-
It is meant for sore/chapped/cracked nipples for breastfeeding moms, which I understand may turn some people off but it is a really excellent balm for any part of the body that is experiencing chapping/cracking skin.
-
Bag Balm. Originally made to soothe cows' udders but now for humans too. This also contains lanolin.
-
The weather is playing hell with my joints. Things are locking and popping and just plain grinding/on fire. I'm on a new drug for it, but it can take up to 3 months to work. I'm so over it.

So! yesterday i went for an eye exam after my normal eye place told me to go to Kaiser and have them look at my eye. (Because here in America even if you have good insurance because your wife works for the state, they still bullshit you around and I have separate eye care place and also through kaiser but only if i do certain tests at the eye care place they'll charge me $$$$$$$$ but if I do it at kaiser they wont and yadda yadda, you all know the drill).
AAAANNNNYYYWAAAYYS, So yesterday the doctor is examining my eyes and she mentions something about my cataracts getting worse. And i was like, 'oh yeah? cataracts?' And she was like. 'yeah, the right is worse than the left.' and so I had to be a little less subtle and said 'Huh, I have cataracts now, news to me' and she blinked, because you know, she spotted them immediately yet my normal eye people MADE NO MENTION.
So yeah, Cataracts. Wheeeee
-
Don't view them as cataracts. View them as free lasik.

Heh. I have minor cataracts and my last doctor visit he mentioned that they could conceivably never get bad enough to warrant doing anything about. I'm almost disappointed because insurance will pay to remove cataracts but not for lasik or other similar procedures. If I had the cataracts removed, they could do both at once and it would be so much cheaper.

I love these little (or big) steps forward.

I'm not a vegetarian but knowing how animals are treated to produce the meat I love so much makes it hard to not
feelbe a hypocrite about it. The more choices we have toward 'ethical' foods the better, whether they're made in a lab or put together from soy and such. -
So apparently, one of the people on my team during my internal internship was fired while I was on PTO. My favorite coworker, in fact, and I'm pretty upset about it.
My boss also told me that while we're now at-headcount instead of over headcount for the role I've been filling, she also doesn't think that the workload would be manageable without backfilling the position, given that even with an extra person, the department was busy enough to need an intern. So there's no guarantee, not even close, but she's going to be talking to her boss about staffing and seeing if they can keep the extra position.
Guys. I've been applying for a promotion for two years. If I don't get one, I probably won't even be able to get a cost of living increase next year. This is the best shot I've had at getting something.
Why does it have to feel horrible? <facedesk>

Which knocks out gluten sensitivities and I get wanting to fix that, but one bite of soy protein and I get agonising abdominal pain and bleeding. So they really are impossible for me (and quite a few others, which is why a lot of formely soy-protein using companies have switched to pea protein).

This stuff is really weird and interesting.
