If you ever decide to look into something along those lines, give me a nudge. I may be able to track down one of my old textbooks on it that was SUPER HELPFUL and explained how to manipulate that basic pattern (also one for pants, one for skirts, princess line styles, etc.) pretty well, and I'm betting you could still find a copy out there.
As someone interested in this dark Sorcery, what book is that? I might not ever use it but it would be fun to know, and I have lots of bookstores around here.

@Derp 'Tis the big blue book!
In all seriousness, it's fantastic. Once you have your base flat pattern created, it shows you how to do all manner of variations based on that.
It sounds complicated until you do it once or twice, but a LOT of it is tracing things off, pinning your base pattern down and spinning it to connect different bits or add splits in different areas, etc. It's actually pretty fun.
One of the things I did was make a mini base pattern for an antique doll* I had way back then, and went through doing the examples in the book based on that. It was a pretty easy way to figure out the basics without using tons of materials up in the learning process. I dunno if that'd be useful to either of you, but it does help. (Also a quick fun way to make doll clothes as gifts for any family kids and such that play with them and such if that's relevant.) It meant being able to do quickie tests with a simple pad of graph paper (and you could use normal cheap copy paper, even, but graph paper helps to keep the lines straight you want to keep straight) on the bus on the way to class and such.
- Technically, I still have her... somewhere. She is very creepy. Ended up on the cover of a horror anthology ages ago a friend of mine did a photo collage for. Mwahaha.

@JinShei It looks great and I am in LOVE with the color. I wish I could sew, but when I was attempting to learn years ago... it went horribly awry.
-
@Macha there are tweaks I want to do but I'm really enjoying sewing... thank you!

@Auspice , this sock-in-progress is your fault

I haven't tried them yet. I do really want my Addi Turbos again. I had a pair that were PERFECT for knitting hats and they disappeared so long ago. I've just never pulled the trigger on buying a new set.
And @tek it is a lovely stitch marker. I have a set of Star Wars markers and a set of Firefly-themed ones that are tiny dinos and strawberries.

I've had Addis that eventually kink or go wonky, which is obscene for what they cost. The Chiaogoo ones never have; they've won me over completely.
There's a major construction difference between the two: the Addis (and all others I've worked with) have plastic cords. The Chiaogoo ones have plastic-coated cabled wire; it's similar to the heavy duty jewelry stringing wire, if not the same stuff precisely.
Plus, they have a super-mini set that goes down to a 000 needle size. I MEAN...

Fun Fur: for when you decide you hate yourself and want to go blind trying to count stitches.

This is about the only project where it works. Knitting it alongside a solid allows me to use larger needles and fewer stitches. It also gives it structure to behave.
I make these scarves every so often because they're easy (size 10 needles, 15 stitches) and fun. It also works out to be a decently warm (without being TOO warm) scarf.
