I'm curious is there any interest in the 20th Ed oWoD mush?
-
@Seamus Conceptually I'd be interested. But I'd also need to know more than just that.
-
I was actually thinking of revamping and bringing back a game I used to run way on back in the day. Twilight Moons, though with another name. It's a game set in San Francisco. It was originally an all-sphere game, but with 20th Ed dragging its feet, it'll just be what's released at the moment.
-
I'd posit the following questions:
- What is the plan? Sandbox? Metaplotty? Pre-Gehenna? Post-Gehenna? Fuck-Gehenna?
- Do you think you'll get enough staff to support the currently-released X20 lines?
- Do you plan to include ALL of EVERYTHING from the X20 lines? IE: Allow Cam and Sabbat PCs? Allow all 13 Were tribes and Fera? Allow Technos and Traditions?
- Are you planning on integrating the train wreck that is M20?
-
I'd love a little OWoD, if done well.
With absolutely no offense intended to the NWoD and fans thereof, it has always felt a little conflict and direction-light to me. The OWoD stuff is, 25 years later, somewhat goofy in places, but at least the antagonists, scope and stakes are very well defined.
-
@Collective
To be fair, this is why I dislike sandbox multi-theme NWoD games, as NWoD is built to be ST-driven in building the world, antagonists, etc.@Seamus
I'll add that me, personallty, I could do V20... but not much else. -
@Bobotron In order of your questions...
- A little from column A and column B. Pre-Gehenna, the main Meta Plot for TM was that something was hiding beneath San Fran and the bay, which called to the PCs. And it wasn't good. I was inspired by the Lovecraft Mythos, The Aaron Spelling TV Show and my own insanity for it. I'm currently pondering the possible elements. Rather than just a Generic by night game. I want there to be something going on MetaPlot wise.
- Probably not. I'll code in a trigger to disable the gamelines and be able to turn them on when people step up to take command.
- No. I was never a fan of Sabbat, so it would be Cam only if I end up running Vampire. Ultimately I would leave that in the hands of the individual game coordinators.
- Eh. If someone can make it not so train wrecky sure. My main lines of thought are Vampire, Werewolf (Fera), Changeling (When it comes out) and Wraith(Again when it comes out). I'd love to see some of the hunters come forward properly, to introduce them into the game, but that sphere usually never ends well.
-
oWoD is so goofy, like @Collective said: but I would play the hell outta some oWoD Mage, totally for nostalgia reasons. I had stupid fun back in the day on oWoD Mu*s, with rag tag crews of various Traditions, lumbering awkwardly in their fight against the Nephandi. It'd be nice to revisit that again! Assuming I can remember how the heck to play...
-
Only if it is single-Sphere, to be fair. Almost all of the oWoD games I've seen are 'everything goes' and I feel that dilutes the theme and vibe so much I have no desire to even app (and I will app anywhere to give it a go)! So either Werewolf and Vampire, I am super down with.
My experience with Vampire is to use only the Sabbat and/or Camarilla sects. I know players will want ALL the sects and ALL the clans/bloodlines, but spreading the player base thin in these games has proven to be a bad thing, from what I observed in the past.
Make it pre-Gehenna, truly classic. Maybe 2nd Edition/3rd Edition 'lore'.

One of my instincts was to make it like two or three cities (not geographically connected) and have each sphere have their own city. That way things would progress only for the city but also offering mutlisphere.
I have a lot to think on, but I was really just putting out feelers to see what the interest level might be. I am not saying I am or am not going through the process to make a game, but it is food for thought.

Hey, whatever you do, man, I hope you knock it out of the park. Making a game is hard, and I think one of the toughest things when making a game is finding a good balance between your own gut feeling/desires with the game AND the opinions/wants of other people/potential players. For all it is worth, if you need help setting up a wiki, I can help you with that.
I like the idea of the three cities, btw, if you do it more or less like a comic book sort of thing: rare events that cross over, but mostly everyone sticks to their own side of the game. If you have people that know what they are doing with each Sphere, you could have a real gem in your hands.
I am a Werewolf the Apocalypse and Vampire the Masquerade fanatic. I would love to see this project off the ground, and hope you go for all speed ahead! If you need opinions or ideas (of dubious usefulness), poke me!
Add-on #1: I have noticed that Old WoD games tend to try catering to all oWoD fans and making a nightmarish, jumbled melting pot of EVERYTHING that really only makes the game not feel at all like the settings they are based on (unless you are making a Dirty Secrets of the Black Hand game! Yeah, I went there). I think, and I have no concrete proof of this, that if you pick a Sphere, build a cohesive atmosphere with it, make it a good game, people who don't play oWoD will also play it. We are all writers and creative people, and a lot of us are just looking for a game that feels special to really pour some hours into.
Add-on #2: Make Salubri and/or Salubri antitribu available.
Add-on #3: Don't listen to her! She is just a stupid fangirl! Make the game you want!
Add-on #4: Srsly, tho. Salubri are the best.

Conceptually, I am super interested. While the multi-sphere game Let Freedom Ring exists, I haven't seen a ton of advertising for it, and it lacks the activity that all WoD games seem to have before changeling opens up.
IN PRACTICE, I shall continue to demand Mummy things, as is my way.
-
@Jennkryst Are they releasing a 20th Ed Mummy?

THEY HAD BETTER FUCKING BE. Though even if they don't, it's easily kitbashed. Take Wraith/Risen, modify a bit, sprinkle with rituals and thaumaturgy until done.
Mummy had 4 books for oWoD... but only TWO of them were Revised. As such, most people's preference to not add custom things keeps them fairly two dimensional. Sure, that dimension is somewhat OP, with their 8.0 earthquakes and sandstorm that deals 1 lethal per turn, but as their powerstat is inherently linked to their morality, you will never use these.

I so fucking would, modified to GMC and have Memory flux like Werewolf Harmony... you flux between your personal desires/memories, and your Judge's desires/memories. Or something I haven't thought it through too terribly much.

We need the conversion finished first before I feel comfortable needling @Thenomain until he's willing to do it. >.>

I actually started to, but then they announced they're actually making a CofD edition of Geist, so I am probably not going to put in the effort.
I have also poked at possible 2e system conversions for Changing Breeds (but I would make them more like the Fera of oWoD).
