Active Games Of The Now?
-
Without really intending to, I sorta went and got super life busy and now its like 4 months later. Also, I was a little burned out on MUing if I'm honest. The combining result is that I stopped logging in here and I stopped logging into the one game that I was half-heartedly poking at (Fate's Harvest).*
So, I've read through the forums here and from what I can generally cull -- is there not a lot of up/new games or are there but things are kind of spread out and in their own genre corners?
Most of the MU/MUD advertising sites are wildly inaccurate at best about what's really active, so I tend not to rely on what they say is going on in MU* land.
So, what are the games that are currently active and/or new?
*It was me, not FH. I had just hit that point where I just didn't have it in me to start over on a new game.

MotM is still the Mos Eisley of gaming, for the old soldiers.
I got the Uncle Phil tossout on a couple active MUSHes (MCM and M3) while doing the Conspiracy Theory (starring Mel Gibson and Patrick Stewart, lol) plot in the psychiatric system, but I play on CoMUX and United Heroes regularly, those are good comic book MUSHes. CoMUX is the narrower playerbase draw with the slack RP requirements, United Heroes is making a showing to max out their advertising appeal with a really professional staff system and ethic, and a wide range of themes. I won't plug myself with my project, it's pretty much the hot rod from Tool Time in Tim Allen's garage at this point, hopefully I'll get the wit in my mental sails to get back into it after the summer ends and the lamented malaise of New England heat is replaced with our autumn.

There are lots of games open, but "active" is often in the eye of the beholder.
Maybe you should narrow your scope. Do you mean WoD games? Space games?
-
Arx is pretty active, with a couple hundred-ish players active players. For whatever reason, most of the MU advertising sites I don't think work with evennia, so we're not on mudstats and the like. So I dunno, it's pretty possible that a lot of other large games aren't really listed there.

@GangOfDolls Marvel: 1963 if you like the supers genre. And yes, it's set in the 1960s (we also take non-Marvel characters but they have to be adapted to the Marvel universe).
-
BSG:Unification is still small but active.
-
Fear and Loathing is pretty active. :3

A fair point. I'm pretty open (perhaps unhelpfully) to most things. I'm a little shy on the notion of massively multi-player places like Arx, only because I don't have the time to keep up with the pace at Arx between professional and personal obligations and not having a job that allows me to play from work. It's a nice gig if you can get it but those games that move at a breakneck pace just leave me feeling left behind. So, seeing as there's no reason to create a reason to feel bad - I'm just not a good fit for that kinda game. The concept of Arx sounds great, otherwise.
Did that replacement for Kushiel's Debut ever happen? I was kinda hoping it might just to try that world out but I'm guessing that it didn't come together, which happens.

I'd love to just see a compiled list of every moderately active MU, if anybody is bored.
-
@Tempest How would you quantify active?

Reach 10+ players somewhat regularly? Not to say it requires 10+ /average/ log ins.

They are still working on it, as far as I know.
Are has slowed down a bit. They are now at 2:1 speed and plot is not quite as hectic as it was.
-
@Tempest That's not active, that's just populated. MUSH population isn't an indicator of MUSH activity.
Activity is better measured in terms of "if I ask for role-play can I find role-play". That's a lot harder to compile a list for since it needs first-hand accounts from multiple sources to confirm.
If you want a list of games by population there's always the mudstats directory.

Does it actually update anymore? I used this and valued it for a long time, and the charts for the games listed are still nice, but last time I checked there as nobody really sticking new games on there anymore, at least not with any regularity. Like, there are two reasonably active BSG games right now, both of which have been running for going on a year, but I don't see either Orion or BSU listed. I don't think Arx is listed and it comes up in every "activity" conversation. Etc.
-
@Three-Eyed-Crow It seems to get updated, like -- once a year. There was a batch of new games 51 days ago, and then before that -- 345 days ago. Once the games are in the system, the info seems to get scraped automatically, but it's just getting new games added that seems to take forever.

I submitted to it about a year ago but yeah was never added, so I just assume evennia doesn't jive with whatever crawler they use, dunno. I don't think it's a super big deal myself.

Ack, posted this in the entirely wrong thread, ignore me...
