Mutant Genesis (X-Men)
-
I am definitely super interested in this and will be eagerly anticipating logging in!
-
Okay, everyone, the address is mutantgenesismux.com and the port is 2017. Feel free to join us there, although the game will only actually open Monday or Tuesday! Join us, talk characters, etc.
Folks who asked for characters and sent pitches should have gotten their passwords. If I forgot anyone send me a message.
-
@enoch Remember to update your first post in the thread with current information as it should make it easier for your players to find it in the future.
And good luck!
-
Oh good, it's not a full on M&M/etc. system. My portal user idea would actually probably work out.
-

start processing apps tomorow
big list of taken, popular charactersDid you take apps for these guys too...? Or are those ones that have apps in? It's... not cool if they're just 'given out' without any type of app process.
-
They're not taken, I'd say, so much as reserved. People still have to go through their process to secure the character bit.
-
@wolfs
Hence why I asked. Taken implies already given out. -
Enoch said they aren't /processing/ apps until tomorrow. IDK why you would assume they meant the people listed aren't doing apps at all.
She even said in a previous post...

I've never seen a hero game that wasn't "first come, first serve" in terms of getting the chance to app who you want.
The alternative is what, your players compete over a character, thus ensuring they hate the other person for beating them and hate staff for not picking them?
-
@tempest
Because 'taken' implies already have access to. As in, already been handed out.I've never seen a game with Features that ended up with 'people hating each other/staff' when they don't get a particular FC. And this is from more than a decade of app-based FC heavy MUs as a rule. If you've had this experience on FC-based MUs, I feel bad for your experience with that genre. But that's not how it always is or will be, unless you have entirely unreasonable people.
Yes, first come first serve... but what if four people app for a particular character all at once? It's not fair to just go 'oh, first in'. But that's just my thoughts on it, so everyone gets a fair shake. Which is why I asked if these people were having to app too. Pitches definitely seem like potential apps (not sure how detailed?), but the 'taken' list is already a TON of major FCs. It's a valid question.

I'm definitely not going to say it's "fair", but literally every Comic MU I've played (and even some I haven't played) in the past 5 years works like this.
4 people can't app for a character all at once, because you are apping the character from that charbit. So whoever was the first one to get the charbit "wins", unless their app is terrible and staff boots them.
You're not submitting an app via email or something.
-
@tempest
Ahh, I see. That's where our disconnect is coming from. That's different from the last couple of comic MU*s I played on, where you did an email app and staff created the PC bit for you and if multiople people can through they adjudicated the 'passing' apps via a secondary (usually audition) process. -

The moment someone asked I'd blink slowly and say: yeah, go screw yourself.
What MG asked for, what your 'take' on a character would be and such, that seems reasonable to me.
-
@ixokai
That's ultimately what an audition (at least in my history of them) was. I guess 'interview' is a better word. On M3 and Megaman X and BWTMet, we'd have them talk about their application and their views of the character and integration, and often do an 'RP scene' to see what kind of handle they would have on the character in a particular situation. -
@bobotron The +pitch is meant to cover much of that.
-
We are taking people through the process like any other player, yeah.
That being said, we won't be doing 'competition' for apps. If someone gets to a character first, they get the chance to app them first. Although we are willing to refuse applications based on if their pitches match or not the theme and vibe of our game, nobody on staff is willing to decide 'who loves/understands a character more than another player'. Even if players handle that superbly (which in our experience, most people do not) it is just so subjective and, quite frankly, unpleasant that we decided to go with the alternative.

I don't immediately get a characters voice right away, it takes some time to fit in. The idea of sitting in and trying to get invested into a character to prove my RP or my take on the character in some 'RP scene' to be judged worthy or not? Nope! Nope nope nope.
-
@ixokai my lone experience with an audition was a really good one. It forced me to really think about how I was going to use dialogue and how to show my character's style. That pressure was really good for me, but obviously that is different for everyone.
Even though the game didn't work out for me, the character (Gambit for X-men) is still one of my go to characters years later.
-
Is anybody behind the scenes connected to the DC places that used the DC rpg forever ago?
I wanna say it was called "Legends Never Die" or something like that and they went on to start Brave and the Bold

Really? Huh. I have a visceral aversion to anything like an audition, that goes back to a WOD game years and years ago, and how it just made me feel like crap. To me it sets the entire tone of the player-staff relationship as one of hostility and judgement.
BUT sorry I should really let this go and not keep derailing the thread
