Anywhere for Requiem 2E?
-
I am looking for a place where I can sink my fangs into some Vampire the Requiem goodness, but I am a picky bitch so these are my real deal breakers.
- Gotta be 2E
- Minimal house rule craziness
- Preferably no bloodlines
- Not run by a douchebag
I know, I am asking a lot. A LOT. But hey, I like Vampire as it is written
-
Do you think RDC is a douchebag? If not, try New Orleans.

I've been toying with the idea of a 2E game set in Boston but I'm curious about one of your points, no bloodlines? I understand 2E really doesn't give much in the way of support for bloodlines but I always thought they added some needed variety for Vampire. Do you mind if I ask why no bloodlines? Because almost all of them are essentially house ruled creations? Thanks!

Pretty much that. Even though I have done it myself, the lack of general information makes me wary of them, in the extreme.
@Ganymede One of the S-tier.

@zombiegenesis Please. No more Northeastern games. Boston is.. please no.

My original idea was to put it in San Diego but that just seemed...not vampy, you know? I get the exhaustion associated with the Northeast, however.
So how does everyone else feel about bloodlines? Too house rulesy? It seems Reno is the best source on the internet (that I can find) for them so my intention was to lean heavily on them if I moved forward with the project. Would most people just rather there were no bloodlines in a straight up 2E game?
-
I'd adore a game set somewhere that isn't 'somewhere American' or 'American but somehow in Europe.' Like Tokyo, or Cairo or something.
-
@tinuviel You really want us all to prove how dumb we are, don't you. DON'T YOU!!!
<cough> Ignore me. I still have mental scars from watching what happened on a game set in Hong Kong many moons ago.
P.S. Would still consider crawling out of retirement for a WoD game set in 1980s Los Angeles. This may just scare someone off the notion, though, I realize this.
-
@surreality I'm a historian. I want a game set in Ptolemaic Egypt or Classical Greece.... but I don't want folk to need a degree to play.
-
Yeah.. I think that's why most are set in the USA. Most players are from there, we are familiar with it and don't have to worry about folks telling us "you're doing it wrong!" regarding the setting.
-
@wildbaboons Even places that aren't set in the US become US but also X Which annoys me because I'm a pretty, pretty, special princess.

That's why you need to go with a semi-fictional/Hollywood approach for all things unfamiliar. Anything else is madness - try to actually set a game in Roman times and keep things consistent within the historic era and it will most likely be a disaster.
Turn it into a Xena production and it can work just fine.
But barring very specific goals (typically someone trying to show off) why even try for the faithful, realistic approach? You want a game in Russia? Base it on tropes all the way. Corruption, crime, Putin, violence and rivers of vodka.
-
@arkandel Agreed, holywood versions of a thing is better than just a rehashed 'American Town By Night' thing.
-
@tinuviel This is kinda the way I look at it, or did for the place I wanted to do.
Ideal? Aim for 'Black Sails' (which isn't super accurate, let's be real here, but it also isn't Xena). Expect 'A Knight's Tale' grade results, and be content with that as an average, 'cause then at least if there are anachronisms of some kind, they're being turned toward people having fun with it and creatively wedging that shit in there instead of just fudging over the stupid by wrapping everything in burlap and calling it a day.
-
@surreality That i think is a really good way to put it... shoot for Black Sails, accept a Knights Tale and David Bowie.
-
David Bowie in Sengoku Japan? I'm down.
-
@surreality we will we will rock you
-
I will once again vote for a south Texas border town as the location. It's spicy, it's relevant, and you can place half the grid in Mexico and make them pay for it.
-
@admiral Now that does sound fun. I also like the 1980's Los Angeles idea.
