Half the board hated me for 'crushing her dreams of home ownership' (see Spider thread).
Half the board were neurotic, entitled douchebags.
I feel fine crushing people's dreams of owning houses. I've done it. A lot. And, frankly, if you're living at someone else's place for free, you can't fucking complain when they want you out after two or three days, and cry about "crushing your dreams."
Like, bitch, get a better paying job.
(Note, this criticism is aimed at Spider alone, really. Homeownership is a precious thing that is hard to lose.)

@ganymede Oh, this was extra special. They just wanted to keep living here rent-free while getting ready to put a mortgage on a place, and hadn't found one they liked yet. Not that they were spending much time looking. (Mortgage payments in the area were apparently similar to rents for the size place they needed at the time.
So, like. That's how I 'crushed their dreams of home ownership'. Farting around online constantly and forum-posting instead of looking actively for places? Apparently not relevant to this entire situation. (I miss the eyeroll emoji a lot right now. )

Yeah. Not like the rest of us, who have to save up for a mortgage while making all other payments in life.
No, seriously, you're a bad person for letting a couple of ingrates occupy your living space for, what, a year?
For shame.
-
@ganymede Wow. LoL... just... wow.
Though, this is why before anyone crashes my couch, I make them agree to a specific date they have to go, and then stick to it.
-
@ganymede It wasn't a year, in fairness. But it still wasn't the 3 days they initially asked for. They showed up around Xmas and left in... August, I think.
But at the time, they had enough of a fanbase/support that... it was all the 'fuck it'.
Forum was a fairly even split on her at the time, either love or hate.
Hate="We hate you for doing her a favor."
Love="We hate you for not continuing to do her a favor no matter how much harm she does!"...ffffffffuck that. Nopeville. Nawp. Fuck all that. There is such a thing as a no win situation, and sticking around through that bullshit would have fit that definition pretty well. I may not be the smartest person in the room, but I'm not that stupid.

Wisdom gleaned from moving:
-
Don't move.
-
Definitely don't move if you've spent the past eight years cramming 8 bedrooms worth of possessions into a 4-bedroom house.
-
If you must move, get other people to do the work for you.
-
If you can't get other people to do all the work for you, do not fill a 26' U-Haul with books and then drive it cross-country.
-
Do not move from a location 350 feet above sea level to a location 7500 feet above sea level.
-
If you do, do not make your plans hinge on being able to unload a 26' truck full of books in less than 24 hours.
(Yes, there is a positive version of this post in the works for the other thread, but this was easier! Also kind of more fun.)

Our 'grandpa/ma on the rockin' chair' stories are going to make the boomer tales about Woodstock and whatnot look like a Disney film, and that is absolutely winning.
So much this, I am very thankful my college days were before the advent of smartphones and everything being visually documented.

I have to assemble a copy deck* for class. It was due by Sunday night. I can't even really begin on it until I get feedback on my 'planning' document from last week.
I haven't received this feedback yet. Our professor extended our deadline until Monday. Which is probably awesome for the people who have gotten their feedback, but sucks ass for anyone like me who hasn't.
I'm in two classes this month. One has an awesome professor. This prof is... I mean, he's not bad, but this current issue has me pretty upset. And I don't want to ask for a further deadline. I don't want to be on this big a crunch at all, because next week I have to put everything in said document to action as it were for my final project.
*A copy deck is basically the document that has everything in it needed for a copywriting project. I'm looking at about 20+ pages for mine. And... it's Friday night and I haven't started. I can't start.

Say something. Really. If he has not given you the necessary feedback to complete your project in a reasonable time, you should at least tell him that you don't think the delay will allow reasonable time for completion.
If he refuses to move the deadline, that is when you do things like appeal to the dean.
I have had irresponsible professors like this in the past. I learned quickly that you have to approach these kinds of things directly. Preferably through channels that leave a record.

I contacted him today. He's given me an extra day. Since I have Mon/Tues off, I should be able to get it done in that timeframe.
Back to stressing out over the 'flow chart' I have to make for another class by tomorrow night. I just cannot grok flow charts. I mean, I can follow them, but I can't make them. Fuckers make no sense to me in construction. I dunno why, I just can't grasp them.

@auspice I'm just going to give you this very platonic "I understand your pain" hug. This past term, I had an excellent understanding Prof (with material that I was struggling with.), and retaking a god-awful course with a god-awful prof who was so bad at her job, late feedback, arbitrary grading style, never responds to emails/messages etc., she was replaced during during winter break for the last two weeks of the class. So, I'm just going to take my D and be happy its no longer an F and move along.
But I know your struggling and the quicksand anxiety it can make.

I do appreciate it. These guy are leagues better than a couple profs I had this past fall. I'm just at the point in my degree where sometimes, things are actually hard and I'm not used to that. Which... sounds terribly snotty of me and I apologize.
I went into my degree program knowing most of it would probably be fairly easy. I chose it not because of that, but because I wanted the industry knowledge. Script standards, for example. What producers and agents are looking for. Stuff like that. Things you don't really find easily on the web (a lot of it is kept secret and/or buried). And I've gotten a lot of that.
But I'm a talented writer, so the bulk of what I've had to do has been easy! But I graduate end of May, so I'm in the final stretch, which means it's... well, it's hard sometimes. And this month? I'm in two classes at once + my usual job. So it's hard in volume of work, too.
Added bonus: I emailed my other prof about the flow chart to ask for some advice on constructing it (first time I've ever actually reached out to one of my instructors for help on an assignment that wasn't just 'your info was vague and confusing, wtf man')... He not only gave me solid advice, but pushed back my deadline. I hope I don't need the additional time, but man. I appreciate it nonetheless!

Like many other people, I have a degree of impostor syndrome when it comes to work. It manifests itself in normal ways, like talking too fast when negotiating a partnership or speaking to the board (bc wth am I talking to the board!).
It also rears its head when its time for me to do minor tasks around the office, because for some reason, any moment that I'm not spending doing the exact task I'm paid for means that I'm not good enough to be in this job. For some reason, my brain is always telling me that I should do little work tasks like running to the post office to mail something, picking up office supplies, organizing files, etc, on my own time.
I know it's the wrong mindset to have, that my pay includes the time I spent doing all these auxiliary tasks that make my work possible and that my work will be better if I just get them done, but I can't quite get past the struggle. This is why there's been a huge cardboard box that contains my new filing cabinet sitting in the middle of the floor of my office for the past two weeks while the files themselves sit on the floor of the closet.

@lisse24 If it's any consolation, you're not alone.
I freaked out so hard this time last year that I'd been in the hospital for two weeks (and thus not doing anything productive for the jewelry business foo) that, while drugged out of my gourd on painkillers, made enough earrings in a week and a half-ish that I had to be told to stop because we didn't have room for more.
I can only sorta blame the painkillers, and even then... not so much.
(This is why my house is a mess, but I'm freaking out if I haven't met my deadlines... which is doubly dumb because I'm self-employed and really can adjust them if needed, I just never want to do that because then I'm afraid it'd become a habit.)

I feel like I'm being really literal with the title of this topic...
I'm annoyed when people tag me in stuff on Facebook, but if it's just some stupid video clip or gif that doesn't include members of my family, I rather want to start punching. I also hate when people add me to groups...
The rare times when someone tags me in something useful are few and far between, but have been so good I'm loath to turn off that permission. So, I just untag myself, even if I'm the only one tagged and it's going to be super obvious.
Thank you, random internet people, for letting me vent.

Oh god yes. I keep waiting for someone to point out that I don't know stuff about my work. Waiting to be found out, and people treating you like you know a lot...

Just repaired the daily workhorse 'doesn't suck to wear for 12 hours' bra for the 2nd time in as many weeks.
Might be time to retire her.

If you in one breath denounce the "Republican war on science", and in the next talk about crystal skulls, planetary influences, the "metaphysical properties" of the gemstones in your jewelry, and how Trump's astrological chart tells us everything we need to know about the man ... you aren't helping.
I'm sorry. I like rocks and the stars, too. But you're not helping.

@auspice I don't know if you have Meijer where you are, but they carry a specific Hanes sports bra that I have fallen in love with. This thing keeps up with me during 12 hour days, in a warehouse, without poking, stabbing, itching, pinching, binding, or chafing. It even stops that grungy feeling from it being too warm and getting sweaty. I'm already scouring local stores to find extras in my size.
