is that about being old?! my fingers are always cold when I'm keyboarding it up. I got giraffe arms, my heart gives up on putting blood in them

It is! (I don't actually know how old you are) It seems like it is. This wasn't happening when I was cold last year!

I mean, it could be something like rheumatoid arthritis (doesn't just affect old people), anemia (again, isn't age specific)....

        For me it's my anemia.

But I own like, six? pairs of fingerless gloves for those 'my hands are too cold to type' days.

New peeve that very much falls into 'first world problems'. I am due to move in just over a month to somewhere literally halfway across the country in order to start a new job that I am looking forward to and will be an amazing career move.

So what happens? A gorgeous secondary school teacher my age who seems to share a ton of interests messages me on a dating site with a nicely written message saying that would love to meet me, while their profile happens to mention that they are not open to relocation. Dammit!

@packrat Well, perhaps this person is open to a one off outing to enjoy some sane company, see if their self description and reading skills are working in regards to the site, etc?

I have a waggish sense of humor.

There is nothing like being trapped in an airplane seat with a drunk next to you. I travel enough for work that it's happened a time or two before and for the most part, those dudes just powered down the vodka and smelled bad before slumping over in their chairs.

It's different when the dude is drunk and wants to talk. And by talk, I mean he wants to get into it about how much he hates his wife and his life and asking 'making conversation' questions that are really designed to game out if I'm single and receptive.

There was no option to be reseated. I asked. The air attendant was sympathetic and cut him off. He luckily didn't rage out.

                      Ugh.

                        My turn.

I’m suffering from anxiety and depression, and I feel stupid about it.

Let’s get one thing straight: I know I have nothing to complain about. Good job. Good kids. Good partner. Good parents and in-laws. I should be a pig in shit.

I’ve been wildly successful lately. Haven’t lost a case or decision in eight months. Partners are giving me more work as we get busier. I’m busier. I pretty much handle both the new associates like I’m their sensei. Wonderful talent.

I’m behind in my work. By a week or two. And I’m anxious.

I may be teaching an MBA course soon. Business law and the legal environment. And I’m anxious.

I’m registering to take exams in Canada to get certified up there. And I’m anxious.

                        I feel like I’m drowning.

“It is better to live doing the things that you like. It is foolish to live within this dream of a world seeing unpleasantness and doing only things that you do not like.” -- Yamamoto Tsunetomo.

@ganymede Anxiety and depression have little to nothing to do with how successful you are, or how good your job, kids, parents and in-laws are. Anxiety and depression are medical conditions caused by an imbalance in your brain's chemistry. There's nothing to feel stupid about. Your feelings are valid. Don't suppress them, evaluate them. Converse with them. Question why they are acting up.

                              But above all, breathe.

                              alt text

After you breathe, and after you've evaluated your feelings, then ask yourself what you can do to slow those feelings down. Not just in the short term, but in the long term. Try to figure out if those feelings are, legitimately or not, trying to protect you from something, and then work to convince yourself that you don't need protection from whatever that is.

Ortallus is correct. I also, in addition to all this, suggest meditation. It sounds hokey but it isn't. It actively short-circuits some of the physical and chemical issues with anxiety even if it doesn't cure it.

Bot and I both have anxiety and find that we must actively manage it. That doesn't mean we're cured, it means we take steps to make sure we don't drown.

It's been a constant variable in my own life that when I feel like I'm getting what I want and by that - I saw a thing, wanted it, set a goal, and went out and got the damn thing - I've come away from it not satisfied but unsettled and anxious that I got what I wanted. If it's something I've bought, it may just sit in its packaging for weeks or months before I begrudge its use.

I'm not saying you're going through what I'm going through but I identify strongly with what you're saying. I wish I had something to offer because I actually respect your insight on this board a great deal. So instead, I'll just say: I see your situation and respect it.

I have the flu and there is dog blood all over my room.

And that's not even what has me feeling like shit. RL sucks.
