My apartment complex changed ownership, and apparently the new ownership wants to make it very clear that these are their homes; we just borrow them.

Updated for this year:

No-smoking policy within vicinity of apartments
Mandatory 50 dollar/month charge for optional trash pickup at door, but if we leave the garbage can out after 2pm we get a $50 fine per instance
They want a picture of my cat and immunization records

What's next? Dental records, quarterly walkthroughs, requirement that my car is constantly washed, and no filthy language? They've come into my apartment 8-10 times last year for mandatory changes to my utilities so that they get kickbacks from their insurance that didnt lower my rent any.

Fuck this neo-feudal landowner's follow my decrees or be homeless power trip shit.

I am super sick of shitty apartment ownership myself. In my case, it's just a complete lack of fucks given. Raise rent, but fuck if they'll actually fulfill your maintenance requests. Raise the cost of the machines in the laundry room, but most of them are broken.

Like, y'know what? I'd be fine with either if shit would actually get fixed/replaced, but don't take all the extra money and just let everything get worse. If I could even think about home ownership, this is when it'd happen. $:\$

I've only lived in two apartments in my life. One was a crappy one room place in Catonsville MD, with roaches the size of mice and rats the size of small cats. It was awful but it was my first place so I put up with things for two years before moving out. What prompted me to move out, the outlet closest to my bed stopped working so I went to replace it. That's when I discovered that the wiring was solid copper with cloth insulation that crumbled to dust the moment I touched the wires.

The second was when I moved back to MD from NY and got a 1br apartment in a big apartment complex. The apartment itself was Ok but the landlord was constantly coming into my apartment. I would come home from work at least twice a week to find a note stuck on the door telling me that they had come into my unit for various reasons, 'inspection' being the most common but they were also using my unit to show prospective new tenants the layout of my style of apartment. The former I could understand but the latter pissed me off to no end. I got the hell out of there as soon as my lease was up.

The moral of the story is, rentals suck.

Especially depression you fight against for weeks and weeks only to have it get way worse when put on a new anti-depressant. (Then you get off the new anti-depressant, and you're back where you started, and then you get to try a new medication instead!)

Just... bleh. I have not felt fit for human contact since early January, and acting like I am still functioning normally at work is getting exhausting.
