Well, that is that, my trusty laptop is officially dead. Thought it was maybe the battery, so I replaced it and tried all the fixes I could find when it wouldn't power on, but no luck. Something vital is most likely fried.
I am so frustrated but at the same time so resigned to it that I just sat there for like five minutes after closing everything back up.
Can't afford a new laptop right now, so I just straight up don't have a computer. Thus, can't take the coding courses I was hoping to take, can't study, etc etc etc.
It's just one more shitty thing this year on a pile of them so I can't even work up the energy to be truly upset about it.

So. I've been in this situation before. And it really, truly sucks.
What I can say, though, is that laptops can come extraordinarily cheaply.
I have this little guy that I take with me to work. It's by no means a powerhouse or anything, but I've never experienced any kind of serious performance issue with it unless I have a billion browser tabs open. I can use it to listen to spotify or something while running Atom, which is a memory beast, and modifying Ares stuff with a MU client in the background.
And, best of all, since it's through Walmart.com, you can use teh Paypal option and try to qualify for the Pay-In-4, where they split it up over your next 4 paychecks.
I know that it's not a great option when you're feeling strapped for cash, and it's certainly no gaming notebook or whatever. But just for work and school, I've found that it meets all of my needs and still lets me stream just fine right out of the box.
Might be worth looking into. Sorry that I can't be of more help than that right now, but I know that the gamers in this community, no matter how much we might be at each others' throats all the time, have each other's backs. Maybe you could set up a GoFundMe or something for donations toward something new? Even if just a temporary fix.
ETA: It will run Atom and Discord at the same time while doing those other things, which on my HP notebook will absolutely crash it, but it's a dinosaur.

Please do this. I can't swing a laptop right now, but I could contribute on payday.

This. I can cheerfully toss a little bit your way.

I really, really appreciate the advice and the offers. That is so ridiculously kind of y'all. I am trying not to cry into my lunch.

Look, if it keeps my husband from touching my fucking French fries....

@wizz If you get an amazon card and buy a laptop via amazon, you get an option to break the cost into equal payments for you. No interest added. I did that with my laptop. Info Here: https://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=19185153011

Wrestling with a sense of feeling wrong for being attracted to a woman who is very clearly trying to attract men, not women, and almost definitely not homoromantic women who exist in some nebulous area between having no libido and just plain being asexual of some kind. I know it's stupid to feel that way because nothing says I'm only allowed to be attracted to women in polo shirts and khaki shorts, but I'm so used to enjoying the hotness of queer folks that finding an exceedingly straight woman attractive is messing with me. Like, that thing I just said about her being exceedingly straight? Yeah, I'm so confused and uncomfortable that I'm deflecting my feelings and trying to justify them by creating insupportable narratives in which she's trying so hard to look straight because she's deep in the closet and some part of my little gay heart can sense that, which then makes it not weird to find a hot woman hot.
I can't tell if sexuality is confusing or if it's only confusing because we have to navigate it in the context of a society that has some truly fucked up preconceptions about how sexuality is supposed to work, but either way, this shit needs to get simplified, please. I don't like how I feel as if I'm betraying my core, fundamental self for feeling this way.
-
You're a person who's attracted to a person. That's a very people thing to do. All the other qualifiers are pretty much irrelevant.
I'm fairly sure that every person on this board has at least one story about being attracted to someone outside of their usual preferences.
Nothing to feel wrong about. That's as human as it gets.
-
Feelings are always valid: Attraction, repulsion, anger, whatever; they don't need to be rational, or even 'reasonable', to be so. It's what you do about them that matters.
-
@greenflashlight unless someone has said that they're only wishing to be attractive to men/women/whatever, I'm not sure why anyone should assume that they're purposefully trying to exclude people. Or maybe I'm just confused. I am attracted to women but I can't think of anything that's ever drawn me to a woman that would not be something that a lot of men would also find attractive.
But I do get feeling uncomfortable due to /unexpected/ attraction to someone that you think won't return it. But as derp said I think that's also a common experience across a lot of different kinds of folks.
-
@mietze Maybe that's referring to queer signalling (or lack thereof)?
-
@greenflashlight I have found over the years that I can be attracted to both men and women, despite my preference for sexual partners being men. I have absolutely been hanging out in public with a boyfriend and pointed to a woman and gone 'godDAMN that woman is hot'... much to their general confusion, because I haven't otherwise ever indicated a desire for women.
That usually spirals into a discussion on how I can find women very attractive without it being my normal proclivity.
It happens! Its not always comfortable or convenient, but you are definitely not alone.

Speaking as someone who is asexual, I find a lot of people attractive, but I have zero desire to actually smush body parts with them.

We can also talk about how we should normalize such thoughts with people we have no actual desire to ever meet in person.
