Don't mind him he's not really a serial killer....most of the time. But what he's saying is accurate and you absolutely can ask questions about things your character would know. Keep in mind there are things your character WOULDN'T know, but they aren't basic things like finding water, where to buy things, etc.
The thing with opacity...well, you see there are multiple avenues to ask questions. It depends on what you mean by opacity. Most of the time, staff isn't visible...no, but someone is there and you can wish up to them. No, you won't know about all of the plots going on. Generally it's not all that opaque.

i am perfectly willing to assist you oocly in game as well.

@twinprince
things change. maybe you should let go, come back, and give it a new spin. you might like what you walk into now.

despite what hedge would tell you, we "are" very welcoming to new players. the welcome might be an introduction to being mugged and murdered, or being abused, or being treated lower than low because you're a commoner and that's a templar, but you are being introduced to the world.
Why is the word "are" in quotations?
And why would I want to play on a game where my introduction to it may be an IC mugging, murder, or abuse incident?
Is this your game's concept of "fun"?
It's not mine.
-
emphasis of the word. would you prefer i use are? that works too. i'll do that.
your experience "might" be that. your experience might also be a guy taking 300 coins from you, bringing you into the byn, and teaching you how to fight, how to survive, and how to roleplay. if this is not your concept of fun, playing in a world that is dangerous, then that is fine. you are welcome to your kind of fun, as i am welcome to mine and others are welcome to theirs.

@twinprince
i made the gesture. i made the invitation. i am not generally a nice person.
shall i post the logs of my own account notes? they aren't good. they aren't staff-bootlicker.
here, this is an example of me:
Rinthel was a believable scumbag who a lot of people had a genuine dislike for just because of actions. Player plays well, but tends to focus a bit too much on coded gains. - 3/22/10
Not the best sportsman. Recieved a very good death with Berdrel, lots of RP and drama. Received kudos for the death. When sent kudos, replied to email with "Meh." - 3/22/10
Multiple desert elves roam the entire world with little regard to any ethos or consideration for interaction within the tribe. Watch for extended abuse. - 6/09/10
SpecAppGuild flag water_elem set - 6/18/10
Stored Zeifriek at player's request. - 6/24/10
Zeifriek stored at staff request. Given a few chances to come to terms with documentation, but gave an oombaal to a non-elf (non-gavram at that). As he did not recognize this was wrong, we decided storage was necessary. - 6/24/10
Don't trust this guy. He's also involved in discussion of the game, metagaming in an OOC medium. If it continues, ban will ensue. - 7/16/10
After some thought, I'm banning the account for a week anyway. They know better, I warned their compatriots that if they continue, I am going to punish them and anyone involved. - 7/16/10
SpecAppGuild flag water_elem set - 3/22/11
Stored Taenir at player's request. - 5/07/11
Based on their tendency to chat with practically anyone via OOC means, I still do not trust them anywhere near a sponsored role or any important role whatsoever. - 5/19/11
SpecAppGuild flag water_elem set - 6/19/11i've been on the same fence that you were on. i've been mocked publically in the forums by staff, with a warning that people shouldn't celebrate the death of avalise - because i could come to their clan next.
come back as yourself. tell staff you want to play again. i guarantee they aren't going to hold things against you - they haven't held it against me, i've risen up in karma consistently despite my issues from before.

The main weakness of Armageddon is and always has been the complete inability of its community, from the top down, to take criticism. This is something that's on full display in this thread as they're put on the defensive trying to explain "fee-fees" and how Armageddon or any RPI might appeal to someone who likes MUSHes.
It's on display on the game's official Discord, which is often a gathering spot for people who are convinced that all the negative reviews are fake, all the negative comments are by disgruntled former players, and their game is the best MU* ever. Well, it isn't. As far as RPIs go, perhaps they're right, at least for now.
Guys, you did your best. People know about Armageddon now. It's easier to trick people into joining Armageddon if all they know about it is that a lot of people voted for it on Topmudsites and Mudconnect. God forbid they see what the players are actually like the moment they get a little flustered.
-
you are welcome to get flustered. you can even criticize me, that's fine. i take criticism well enough. will i respond to it? probably not. will i admit to it? yes, as i have. sure, i've mocked former players who were banned from the game. do i do it still?
it depends on who we're talking about. but i do not mock new players to the game. i introduce them to it, i guide them through it, and i've made it a habit to help them in any situation where i'm capable of helping them.
i'm sorry you went through harsh times. i'm sorry you were spurned by people - maybe even by me. i don't know. i don't know you. i have a biting personality, everyone can see that - i've been banned from the gdb and from the game - twice. it's not about "eating a bag of dicks from staff", because i've had staff put pressure on me in a bad way, and i've teetered the line between permanent ban and staying. i managed to stay, and i made something from that.
maybe the negative reviews are real - maybe they're written to be spiteful. maybe there's a semblance of truth in them. sometimes there is. i don't believe all the reviews are fake. but many of those reviews are very old - and they come from a different era of staff than what we currently have.
-
@TwinPrince I want you to come back, too. We had fun.
-
we do legitimately want people to come back, give the game another shot. you might still not like it, you might still have grievances, but if you don't give it another try you'll never know.
so give it a shot.
-
"i've mocked former players who were banned from the game. do i do it still? it depends on who we're talking about."
"you might still not like it, you might still have grievances, but if you don't give it another try you'll never know."
This is not a good representation of your game. If you need to be told why, I don't know what to tell you.
-
there are certain former players who are known to be twinkish powergamers whose only goal in the game is to get rich and big and strong so they can smash everybody and have gone to great lengths to do this. they are worthy of mocking, because they missed what the point of playing armageddon is all about.
i'm being honest. you might not like it still, you might have grievances still, i can't say for sure what you will feel when you come back. but if you come back with an open mind, i think you will like what you find.

eight years ago now. it's been too long and i've become evil and vile.
i still help the new guys.

that is not what quotation marks are for and that's not what it means to use them
-
i don't want to get into a heated debate about how quotation marks can be used for emphasis with you, but it is one possible way to use them, yes.
-
@TwinPrince that was a heartbreakingly lovely and open post. Thank you. I can't tell you how much I look forward to seeing you back in the world. You're right about storytellers not being particularly powerful, but I think with some patience and open communication, we should be able to see fair progress. Our current producers are easily my favorite I've ever worked with.

I'm not familiar with how AAVE works, but I'm very certain that proper English does not include using quotation marks to emphasize particular words.
As it goes on this board, it makes little sense to do so when there are buttons that allow you to bold or italicize words for emphasis, and where you have demonstrated that you know how to use them.
-
@evilcabbage You are wrong. That is not an appropriate use of quotes. It does not mean what you think it means. Go look it up.
