@TNP Well, IW was already filming when Black Panther was released, so I don't think it was Killmonger quite yet, although he was still an incredible antagonist.

There were also previous successes like Vulture in Homecoming, Zemo in Civil War, Kingpin in Netflix' Daredevil series, and Loki overall. Mostly, though, I think it's part of a larger entertainment trend to give the Villains some form of empathetic resonance rather than be just 'pure evil'. I'm sort of mixed on the idea itself; as an example, I hate it in 'Wicked', but liked it in 'Maleficent' and 'Once Upon A Time'.

@Runescryer I've said it before, I'll say it again. Its part of the whole buying Fox thing. Thanos has his human side so when MCU combines with Fox Mutant-verse, the whole why Josh played Cable and Thanos will make since. Cable is a future split timeline that is righting itself*.

The myriad explanations, and confirmed by the Ancient One in the Bruce Banner metaphysical dialogue sequence, to say all other time travel movies/tv series are wrong and one can't change the past. To help with the Thanos paradox of killing 2014 Thanos who doesn't incite all the movies that lead up to Infinity War (cause that would be Marty - Back to the Future if him dying changed the past for 2023 and that movie was total BS according to Stark I think). If 2014 Thanos death meant anything (or if he wasn't from an alternative timeline) that would prevent Infinity War which would prevent Endgame or something. Thus, Cable is Thanos, they knew it when the cast him in both movie verses.

So Killmonger is like an anomaly. T'Challa didn't want to kill him at the very end, they sort of had an understanding at the end too. So before Steve time travels, they talk about changing this alternative timeline past thing (like Steve living out days with Agent Carter without changing the actual past or whatever). So this Killmonger that gets to live becomes the new anomaly in the machine which leads to ... Morphius (assuming the prequel makes it to actual movie, where Michael B Jordan plays young Morphius - which crazy aside, would be a cool movie, more spy stuff like the beginning of Matrix).

Though, in honest, I wouldn't be surprsied if he returns as Killmonger, along with a few others due to time hyjinx and breaking their own code about changing the past a little.

(I'm guessing you forget Michael B Jordan was Johnny Storm?)

@Auspice Oh snap (small one, not universe altering one), that's right I forgot about the reboot. Well, that blows my theory on Josh Brolin eventually being a Nexus of All Realities (Alex Summers - Havok). Now there are two nexus in one reality - mind blown!

ETA: If it helps my favorite cross-over is Alfre Woodard, she's one up on Josh, Michael and Chris Evans (1st Storm/Capt America - I guess his ass is hot afterall?), she played two roles in the same movie verse (mother of boy killed in Sokovia and my favorite portrayal as Mariah Dillard on Luke Cage)

Okay, point. I'll grant you that Zemo was a sympathetic villain. Killmonger just stood out more for me as someone who could have been a hero had he just gone in a slightly different direction. Zemo, not so much. Or at all.

I still haven't seen Homecoming or Daredevil so don't know Vulture or Kingpin and Loki... Well, I don't find him at all sympathetic.

And now Zachary Levi is playing Shazam!/Captain Marvel, who has worked and found himself looking up to... Superman, who was played by Brandon Routh, who played... Daniel Shaw, who was looked up to by Chuck.

I had a stroke of luck and though I got to the theater late (my dinner took longer than expected and there was an accident on the road there), I was able to get a seat in the screening still (they always 'overbook' those things). They had one seat left and I was the only person in the crowd that wasn't part of a group.

HA HA FOR ONCE BEING LONELY AF WORKED IN MY FAVOR.

Anyway.

The movie is def. more geared towards people who are adults-that-grew-up-with-Pokemon. That's not to say it's an adult movie, but between the pacing, story style, and even jokes... the kids sitting around me seemed more latched onto just seeing the Pokemon on screen than anything else in the movie.

I enjoyed it. As someone who saw the first Pokemon movie in theaters, it was kind of like a bit of a homecoming. I'm not a HUGE POKEMON NERD, but I get the games every so often and I can probably recognize (name) about half of them.

The pacing kinda struggled at parts. I feel like Ryan Reynolds voicing Pikachu was more novelty than anything. It could've been anyone tbh.

...and lemme just say: the Mr. Mime scene from the trailer? It gets better.

So.

Avengers: Endgame.

Yeah, it was pretty good.

As many people have already said: It absolutely did not feel like a three-hour movie.

I don't know if that justifies making us ("making" being a strong word, here) watch Infinity War first, but I doubt the payoff would have been quite as good without the first movie, so if you watched it then eventually see this one for the payoff.

I got "Return of the King" feels about the payoff.

I sadly did not recognize Stan Lee in the movie.

Sorry, Stan.

But goddamn did Karen Gillian steal the show in both movies. I hope she continues to grow as an actress and knock it out of the park in whatever she decides to do. We have so many good actresses in the movie industry right now that I hope "The Hustle" is an instant classic. Er, not that I like McCarthy, but she can be as funny as she's directed to be.

To be fair on this point, I think someone realized that Thanos's comic motivations, impressing the cosmic embodiment of Death, didn't really work without some sort of establishment of such cosmic entities. Without that infatuation, he'd just be a guy who likes to kill people for no particular reason, which is a pretty lame motivation for someone that's been built up over all of the Marvel movies.

His comic personality is good, but it relies on a lot of backstory that just isn't in the movies.
