Good or New Movies Review

If you all could see how HARD I rolled my eyes when I read about the petition to have Rotten Tomatoes shut down simply because some fans didn't like that there are a bunch of negative Suicide Squad reviews and they thought RT was responsible for them or something.
-
As someone who has preferred DC comics to Marvel comics for most of the time I have been a comic reader, I tend to be pretty pro DC but OMG did I think that petition to get RT shut down was the stupidest thing ever.
A site about movies will express an opinion about movies that is what it exists to do.
I have yet to see Suicide Squad and likely won't for a bit for reasons having nothing to do with anyone's review,(The reason is DC movies tend to disappoint me so I wait until l can Red Box them.) but put trying to get a movie review site shut down because you do not like the reviews it has to be the same level of jackassery and Nemmykins getting MuBBs shut down because they made fun of her overly verbose desc. -

A site about movies will, but Rotten Tomatoes doesn't do that. It simply aggregates reviews and scores from critics and shows them, it has no views of its own.
-
I was going to point out that the change.org petition was essentially calling for censorship, but I guess someone else got to him first as the title of the petition is now "Don't listen to film criticism".
Maybe it can be tempered further to something realistic, like, "Listen to film criticism, but make your own decision." Or possibly, "It's only a movie, people, don't flip out."

Then that makes your initial most even more bizarre to me. You are upset that someone collected and presented data? (Well upset might be a bit of a reach but at least moved enough to post here to say screw them.) Wouldn't your actual beef if one existed at all be with the critic who wrote the negative reviews?
To me that is like being upset with your calculator because you don't like the numbers it comes up when you are working on a budget.
If Rotten Tomatoes was generating reviews then at least I can see why people would be upset, I would mock them for it but it would be understandable, but if all they do is collect what people are saying other places then how is it their fault there are more negative then positive reviews?
If you think it is prioritizing negative over positive in some way that is one thing but otherwise what are you expecting it to do, there are dozens of media cheerleader sites out there, so I am sure positive reviews are not that hard to find. -
Yeah, the critics sure hated the Nolan Batman movies and Deadpool.

I was being sarcastic, but I guess I can see how that got lost in translation.
What I meant is screw critics and the negative reactions online, I liked the movie just fine for what it was.

Rotten Tomatoes seems to be biased against most superhero movies unless they're obvious money winners, like the Marvel flicks. Anything else made by anyone not Marvel? They'll hate it!
Except that the Marvel movies were decent productions that did one of two things: (1) focused on the characters involved so you could feel connected to them; or (2) toss many of those developed characters into a single plot that barely held together, but made for exceptional acting in small snippets.
Warner Bros. does not seem to have quite understood this in their milking of DC's superior material. Even after Nolan's non-pareil trilogy, they still haven't quite figured out what makes superhero stories compelling. And that's quite a shame.

You make very valid points.
-
@Arkandel
Yeah I didn't pick up on the sarcasm.
I do have one question about hte movie since you have seen it and it is non-spoiler-y but is one the othe big reasons I am not excited for it. Does Will Smith do asshole well enough for a proper Deadshot?
I like Will Smith as an actor but one thing I have never seen him play is an asshole which Deadshot is, a character I love though. -

Thank you! Here's another good point: Suicide Squad is a fine movie.
It's not The Dark Knight. It's not even The Dark Knight Rises. But it's a lot better than Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice because it doesn't take itself seriously.
Don't compare it to The Avengers. It's not that. It's its own thing. Enjoy it for that; enjoy it for Leto; enjoy it for Harley.

I mean he was an assassin (obviously) but other than THAT... he wasn't a jerk. Can't tell if it's because WSmith didn't want to portray that or it was just in the script.

'Hancock' is, in many ways, not a very good movie, but I enjoyed it for the anti-superhero-ness of it all, and Will Smith does a pretty good asshole in it.
-
Well, what gets me is the overreactions by people. There was a guy on the radio earlier ranting about how none of his friends liked it ('they were laughing AT not BECAUSE of the movie!') and then there are blogs like this doomsayin' before the opening weekend is even over.
In the mean time the movie is breaking August box-office records. Not that this means anything, audiences show up for stupid movies too, but oh-no whatever will Warner do? They have a huge hit but they're getting bad reviews from critics... time for some hard choices.
-
Suicide Squad was pretty non-offensive(I went in expecting a steaming pile). I mean, whoever was in charge of the music should totally be shot, but other than that, I think waiting for the director's cut is the right choice. Seems like a lot of important stuff was left on the cutting room floor. I also hear Batman Vs Superman has a director's cut out that makes the movie make some sense.

Apparently, Leto was pissed that a lot of his work wasn't in the release cut, so you can bet the director's cut'll be better.
-
@Ganymede Yeah, I feel like half of the squad was shorted on their introductions. I didn't even care about the Joker, he seemed shoehorned in, I wanted to know more about the actual suicide squad members, like who was that bionic commando dude they tacked on at the end? Did he even get a line?

Can't really have Harley without Mr. J.

That was Slipknot, played by Adam Beach. I guess he would have served more of a purpose than demonstrating Col. Flag's ruthlessness. Of course, Slipknot, like Boomerang, is utterly useless in the larger scheme of the DCEU, so his death is just fine with me.
-
Wow Slipknot got a movie appearance? And I thought Marvel was giving screen time to bizarre choices.
Edit to Add: I like him getting in but really as far as characters he is a d-lister at best. But Yay Firestorm villains. -
Slipknot was the guy in the Ostrander run whose sole purpose was to demonstrate that Waller wasn't fucking around about the team's explosive bracelets, so his inclusion seems reasonable.
