To be frank, I think M&M 3E may be a bit too "crunchy" for my tastes, but I may be in the minority. You should use whatever system you feel best represents the kind of atmosphere you want for your game and player base.

IDK, to me "set in the insert time period of actual history before the 70s/80" pretty much just says, "playing anything but a white man will definitely limit you". Some people might be into that. I sure as heck amn't.

@Lithium - I mean, I mostly play World of Darkness in all its various forms these days, plus other games where you might die, so I don't think that's a concern. But could you let me know how you define pure consent? It's been a while since I heard the term.

Pure consent is when there is no system, there is sometimes not even a sheet, everything is just arbitrarily decided by the people in the scene.

In other words, I like dice RPG systems.

What do the two of you think about M&M, are you familiar with the latest edition of it? And Wizz, I definitely think you should start a new thread so more people can brainstorm on that, including myself. πŸ˜ƒ For a different game I think it would be super cool, and I'd be genuinely interested in playing in it.

I'm def a +1 with @Ganymede on this. I actually really used to enjoy booting up HeroLab and just building zany characters in M&M with my beginner's understanding of the system, but every time I actually started to apply -- and this is really anecdotal so take it for what that's worth -- I quickly became very discouraged by how people seemed so focused on powergaming the system and how the MU* environment & community seemed to make that easier at those points in time and places.

I think systems that are a little more focused on narrative choices than dice, or at least find a solid balance, are a better fit for MU*s.

And yeah, I actually had an older thread about CoM! I'll necro it and throw my thoughts here about a conversion up at some point. πŸ™‚

I dislike M&M because it is broken and easily abused.

I think this should be the case for a superhero game, definitely, and one of the reasons why I wanted to sit and think about designing a card-based superhero RPG.

Typing on my phone so forgive any typos - narrative choices is good. The ability to leap and grab the chandelier and douse the enemies with arrows etc... Anyone know of any systems built for that?

Fate. I have seen DFRPG repurposed for a superhero game on tabletop.

There are straight up like six different Fate superhero systems. Venture City, the one developed by Evil Hat, is my poison of choice there but there are certainly options.

@tnp Heh. Sorry. I'm not advocating for their use mind. I'm just saying they exist. I know Fate isn't everyone's jam.

Just so it doesn't look like I'm ignoring the question, can someone link one of the threads that goes into this? I don't remember any of the titles.

@kay ICONS is actually ok. It's kind of interesting and I like the way it comes together. It is a lower power level type of system which is fine for all OC's honestly.

ICONS is basically the old TSR Marvel FASERIP system modernized and prettied up, so it definitely gets a thumbs up from me.

Yeah there are a few with very similar names, I know there are like three that all have sound effect names and I can't keep them straight to save my life.

@thatguythere @Lithium - I'm looking specifically at this one https://greenroninstore.com/products/icons-superpowered-roleplaying-the-assembled-edition since one of my friends brought it up as a promising alternative. I'm not familiar with it at all, but it sounds like you are both familiar with it. Do you think it would work well for a MU*?

I think it could it is pretty simple to use and moves at a good pace.I am not sure on how much of a hassle Cgen since the table top games I have played with it used the random roll option which would likely not go over on a MUSH but I do know they had a point buy alternative.

Note: I played the Edition before the assembled edition but from what i have heard not a lot changed.
