How did you discover your last three MU* ?
-
The topic should be sufficient but just to expand on this, but I'm wondering how you actually discovered, say, the last three games you played on. Not how it should have theoretically worked, or how it should be, but where did you hear about them?
So,
You have two votes in case more than one answer applies.
Two more non-poll options as well I'm curious about:
-
Did you hear about those games from an ad (i.e. some specific attempt to sell you the game, even if it was a friend going "HEY COME PLAY WITH ME IT'S AWESOME") or through discussions about those MU* in general which weren't trying to lure people over.
-
Were you looking for a new game when you heard or did it just happen to come up and it caught your eye?
-
-
To be more specific:
Arx -- MSB
Dawn of Defiance -- In the Generations of Darkness Explosion
Generations of Darkness -- MUD StatsI was also briefly on Fallen World, but I don't remember if that was before or after GoD. I heard about that one in a message from a friend and found it very much not to my tastes re: Mage.

How I Discovered my Last Three MU*: I was asked to help make them. So, word of mouth? Probably not what you meant.

You're the definition of a special case.

My last three were word-of-mouth (casual invite during discussion of the game), word-of-mouth (same), and I Created It.
I have, however, discovered my next two games on MSB (KotOR-era Saga Edition and WoT), they're just not open yet.

Anyone else look back on previous games hosted on wikidot to see what previous partners/handles are currently playing in when you've lost communication with them?
That's how I find some games.

I've done that to avoid people....

Helped the game move/get setup on new server - Reno 2.0 (so that'd be an Other Vote? I mean I had been there in the past... it was a return to play? I dunno.)
Invite from a friend (Word of Mouth) - Valorous Dominion
MSB - Gods & Monsters
-
For me it is almost always word of mouth. the exception being Fallcoast and that was me wanting to play a particular character idea and just waiting for a NWoD changeling game to exist.
The games that aren't word of mouth usually come from me wanting to play a particular thing so going to MUDConnecter and hoping to find something that fits.
In any case once I pick a game I then check here to see if there are any reasons to avoid it I have forgotten. -

MSB - Gods & Monsters
MSB has a Mu? Called Gods & Monsters?! I seriously would play the shit out of this. (Well, at least I'd take the piss out of it.)
-
Pretty much always it's word of mouth or 'I built it'. It's been a long, long time since I picked up a game based on an ad. These days if I'm going to a game, I'm probably going because I have friends there I want to play with.

I learned of the one named Gods & Monsters on MSB. It's a DC Comics game.
And you take the piss out of everything.

I wish. I take things too seriously.
Way too seriously.
Which reminds me:

Your mom's a special case.

Okay, I'm done derailing.

I started Arx because of a MSB thread. Otherwise, I built it ... or 'some friends dragged me' so word of mouth.
-
8th Sea: Someone mentioned it directly before there was a thread, but it was here.
That short-lived teens game: Ad thread here.
FC: "Well, we could try Fallcoast?"

STF. You should have stuck around longer. Then there would have been four active characters.
-
Direct personal invite for two, the other was a Facebook group I'm part of. Usually it is 'hey I want to rp find us a game...' and then whoever it is comes back with something. Mostly I don't add thread. I will look at an ad AFTER I am thinking about a game to judge whether or not I want to check it out based on how the staff conducted themselves.
-
"@Aria asked me to come aboard."
-
Every game I've ever really gotten into has been word of mouth from the same person, and that same person lost interest shortly after I joined, but I stuck around because I liked it, except my first which she stuck around with but I left because, ugh. (Star Conquest, Firan, Arx)

Mushlist, mudconnecter, and mushlist.
