I keep being tempted, because I've always been interested in episodic MU*ing, and Aliens rock, but totally no time at all.

@auspice I would absolutely play either the Athlete or the Thrill-seeker if I were to play, sorry. Lots of really, really stupid (and fun) ways to die.

As a quick FYI, 'The Crash Test Dummy' is not an actual archetype available; that's me fussing around with a template structure and some automated list features to help TD out and organize character pages easily for folks going forward, since there are some really unique structural challenges for the wiki (that are frickin' fascinating to solve). It's just the testing sample people can pick apart to see how it's set up.

Since my char is already ded IC and more or less super freaked out to the point of quietly sitting in a corner with the first book she can pull off the shelf the moment she wakes up in Dedsville, I'm hacking through this today.

                    Oh fucking well.

We just completed our first story, Isle of Dread. It was a good learning experience, and we're building off of it going forward. Our next story is set in the ALIEN universe, and starts August 9th. This is a perfect time to join in and give it a try!

First story was fun; I wasn't able to participate as much as I'd like but that was entirely on me because I had a work deadline that came up and surprised me. Still!

I look forward to the next story. Already have some ideas of who The Avant-Garde is going to be.

Our newest ad! Alien: Mutation starts Thursday, Aug 9.

                              HorrorMU.com: 1880
                              http://horrormu.com/index.php/Main_Page

Horror MUX is a game of mortal horror set in a variety of rotating settings and themes, using different versions of the same characters, called Archetypes, and with an underlying connection running throughout.

We employ a modified version of the Slasher Flick system which emphasizes personal horror and cinematic narrative over stats and combat, and this very simple game system is explained here on the wiki. There is no need to purchase any books.

This game is intended for mature players.

We are about to begin our second story - Alien: Mutation. This story takes place in the ALIEN universe, in the year 2149, set after the events of the first Alien film and the Alien: Isolation game, and before the events of the second film, Aliens. Don't have any idea what that means? Not to worry!

In simple terms, it's a post-FTL (Faster Than Light) travel universe, where man has begun to explore and settle systems light-years away. MegaCorps are the true power and the Colonial Marshals are the police force and peace keepers of the times.

Colonies are being built in many systems, mostly by Weyland-Yutani, known for its atmospheric processors, sophisticated synthetic-person technology, and military technology. Seegson produces more rudimentary androids called Working Joes, semi-autonomous robots that lack the sentience of W-Y synthetics, though it is still a leader in communications and computer mainframes.

Penumbra is the primary fuel producer, heavily invested in mining, refining, and fusion technologies. They are also a force in manufacturing civilian goods such as clothing and luxury items, with the Tenochtitlan Station Promenade essentially being the biggest mall in space. Their creation of the Eclipse Resort and Casino marks their bold first step into creating a new space tourism industry, offering luxury resort and spa accommodations. The game will start in several locations, but threads will merge and the majority will take place on Tenochtitlan Station, primarily in the mid-levels of the station.

In closing, think of a mashup between Alien and Dawn of the Dead, being hunted by a Xenomorph(s?) in the largest space mall ever made. Who can resist that?

This is really shaping up brilliantly for the second story from everything I've seen of it, and there's still plenty of stuff to do in the land of confusion between stories -- IC!

Presently, the cast, unaware of their real identities, are in the midst of trying to figure out who they are, deciding whether or not they want to cling to the identity they had in their former role (even knowing it's probably not real), and trying to find a way out of the bizarre holding area they find themselves in. This is a lot more entertaining than it may sound; a number of characters are trying everything to find hidden exits, means of communication with the outside world, while others are just trying to rest and be relieved that they're probably not actually dead. Probably. Not everyone can agree on that, really, either. Crackpot experiments to discover how reality works in this space are perpetually ongoing and range from trying to find names in baby books on the shelves to setting the whole dang place on fire.

This only has a few more days to go before the next story starts (pop in now!), but the reactions to new characters in the holding zone that no one had run across in the previous story -- and thus no one has any idea at all who they might be -- are really a lot of fun. (Some of these people they did meet in the previous story, but either look profoundly different in age, or may be hiding their former story identity out of a sense of shame, etc.)

It's trippy and meta in a good way, and if you're the kind of player that enjoys that (HEY @COIN I'M TALKING TO YOU HERE IF YOU GET THE TIME SOMEDAY SOON, you'd probably love the hell out of this), it's definitely the time to pop on and look over the list of available roles to nab one.

Again: people are stunningly chill and funny and willing to try things. That is awesome and fun, sometimes hysterical, sometimes absurd, sometimes horrifying, but in the best ways.

                                Oh fucking well.

I read in this thread I think that this isn't a good game for a casual player. I have been wanting to check it out but I have about 2 or 3 hours an evening to devote on work nights. Is that enough time or should I just avoid?

It depends on casual; 2-3 hours an evening seems okay? Its if you can only play like once a week or once every other week where it likely will totally sweep past you.

Precisely this. When we've said casual, we mean the sorts who can only stop in about once a week or less. Or the people who tend to just sit idle OOC and might RP once in a blue moon.

If you can be around a couple hours a night to RP? You'll be just fine! And if you can RP more on weekends? Totally all right. 🙂
